She met Kyla as soon as she got out.
Lina walked to the sink, gargled, and wiped her mouth with a tissue “Are you okay?” Kyla asked with a touch of worry in her eyes.
Lina laughed at herself and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Are you…” Kyla seemed to be choosing her words hesitantly.
“I’m pregnant,” Lina said honestly.
Kyla froze. Although she had speculated as such after hearing Lina throw up for so long, she was still surprised to hear her admit “Is it… Hadwin Stephenson’s child?” she asked.
Lina’s shoulders instantly slumped. “Is it that easy to guess? I
thought it’d be hard to guess whose baby I’m carrying.”
“Hadwin Stephenson is the only person you’ve loved. Besides, didn’t you run into him again some time ago? So it’s not that hard to guess,” said Kyla.
What she did not say was that with Lina’s character, if a man she did not love had gotten her pregnant, she would probably take him to court!
“I didn’t expect myself to get pregnant so easily. I was so drunk that day that I had no idea what I was doing,” said Lina.
“So what are you going to do now?” asked Kyla.
Lina was silent for quite some time before saying, “I don’t know. This baby was never in my plan. If I give birth to the baby, people will criticize me unless I marry Hadwin Stephenson, but… I’m scared…”
“You’re scared that Hadwin Stephenson doesn’t love you enough?”
“What he loves most is his career and success. His upbringing made him strive for money and power. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. After all, no law says that love is the right choice when choosing between career and love.”
Lina paused and smiled bitterly. “I’m just scared that I’ll love him so much if I marry him, yet I won’t be as carefree as him. I won’t be able to take it if he wants to divorce me one day.”
Kyla patted Lina’s shoulder. “Whether you want this child or not, you have the right to choose. But once you make your choice, don’t ever regret it.”
Lina froze and looked at Kyla. “Well… Kyla, have you ever regretted it after giving birth to Nelson?”
“I’ve never regretted giving birth to him. I’m even glad that I gave. birth to him. Without him, I would’ve stopped having the courage.
to live long ago. You can even call him my emotional pillar of support,” said Kyla.
Lina looked down somewhat blankly at her flat belly. ‘What about me… What will this child be to me? Support or… burden?’
Grace’s operation was completed eight hours later. It went smoothly and was carried out in the best way possible. There were also no accidents during the operation.
However, the result would depend on the recovery after the operation.
Dr. Russell came out with a tired look on his face and informed the crowd waiting at the operating room’s entrance.
“Dr. Russell, thank you. If there’s anything you need, I’ll help you out!” said Jason. There were only a handful of people in Emerald City who could get such a promise from Jason.
“Wait and see how the girl recovers after this before you thank me,” Dr. Russell said and walked away.
Grace had not woken up yet due to the anesthesia.
Lina and Kyla said to Jason, “Grace will probably be too exhausted to talk to us when she wakes up later. We’ll go home first. We’ll come and see her another day!” Now that the result of the operation was out, they felt more at ease.
Jason replied, “Okay, I’ll have someone send you home.”
“No thanks. I drove here, and I’ll send Kyla home,” said Lina.
Dr. Russell went to a private lounge the hospital had given him. Brian was sitting inside.
“How was the operation?” Brian asked quickly.
“Since you’re worried about her, why weren’t you waiting at the operating room’s entrance?” asked Dr. Russell.
Brian said, “You know why. I’m leaving Emerald City by plane tonight. I just want to know if her operation is successful before l leave.”
There was a touch of loneliness on his face as he said this.
Looking at the expression on Brian’s face, Dr. Russell could not help but sigh. “The operation was a success. It’s the best I expected, but how well her hands can recover depends on the time period after this.”
“Good.” Brian smiled gently, which seemed to lift some of his loneliness.
What mattered was that she was alright.
“How long will you be away from Emerald City?” asked Dr. Russell.
“I have no idea. It depends on the project over there. Maybe I’ll be back in six months. Maybe three to five years,” said Brian.
Dr. Russell said nothing more. Brian got up. “I’ll visit you in the clinic when I come back. Goodbye!”
The tall figure made his way out of the lounge, and Dr. Russell muttered, “I wonder when this boy will get over Lil Cummins.”
Brian went to the parking lot and was about to get in his car when he suddenly stopped. Jason was standing in front of him.
”
“What’s the matter? Why aren’t you accompanying Grace in the hospital ward but are here blocking me instead?” Brian asked sarcastically.
Jason said lightly, “Grace is still under anesthesia and will not wake up for more than an hour. Why did you hide from everyone that you’re here in the hospital?”
“Do you want Grace to know that I was waiting outside during her operation?” Brian asked in amusement.
“Your flight is at eight o’clock tonight. Are you going to the airport now?”
“You’re well aware. Yes, I’m going to the airport.” Brian did not seem surprised that Jason knew the time of his flight.
As Brian spoke, he walked to the car door, opened it, and got into the driver’s seat. Just as he was about to close the door, Jason suddenly pressed his hand on the door.
“Why didn’t you tell Grace what happened back then?” asked Jason.
He did not bring up the details, but Brian knew exactly what he was talking about. “I didn’t say it for Grace’s sake. If you don’t want her to know how despicable you are, you’d better hide that incident for the rest of your life. She’s upright and righteous. She won’t be able to accept your dark side.”
Jason leaned over and stared at Brian coldly. “You don’t have to worry about that. Grace is my wife in this life and will still be my wife in the next one. Brian, you’d better remember that she will never be with you!”
With that said, Jason closed the car door and turned to leave.
Brian glanced lightly at Jason’s back and started his car to leave.
‘Maybe… not in this life, but who knows… about the next? If there really is a next life, I hope I can meet Grace earlier. We won’t be separated anymore, and I can grow old with Grace…”
Lina sent Kyla back to the store. Kyla asked her to stay for dinner. Fortunately, the baby in Lina’s stomach behaved during dinner and did not make her throw up again!
When Lina headed home, Kyla said, “Drive carefully. You’re not alone anymore.”
“Got it,” said Lina. She drove back home.
As soon as she got back to her house, the space full of boxes… caught her attention “Why are there so many packages?” Lina could not help asking.
