(Alexander)
I ran my fingers over my wife’s cheek, waking her up as the plane started landing. The fact that we had arrived safely was something that I couldn’t help but feel grateful for. My heart raced against my rib cage assembly and hit the ground, but I knew that we were there. Finally the two of us were out of this and our daughter was somewhat safe, at least until we got towards Vladimir’s place. Then I knew how to deal with things.
I had to admit, the last thing that I expected was for us to be having our honeymoon, if I could still call it that, this way. The two of us were supposed to be having the best days of our lives, and instead, we were f*orced to flee something that we didn’t even know how to handle.
“Scarlett, baby girl, we are here.” I said, watching as she opened her eyes. Thankfully, Anastasia was asleep for most of the flight, choosing only to wake up a few times to either want to get changed or fed, and that was something that we were able to handle smoothly. Thankfully, the plane was actually empty and no sense were familiar. I knew that if anyone was here. We would have felt it before now. I didn’t feel anything and that was something that I was thankful for. It was something that I was happy about and the fact that it didn’t know what Kale’s situation was going to be was something that I didn’t want to deal with. But for now, that was something that I didn’t care about. All I cared about was the fact that we were out of there, we were safe and my daughter was safe.
Scarlett rubbed her eyes from sleep, waking up as she tried processing what I said before she smiled when she looked out the window. This was one of the few times that she has traveled. It sickened me to admit, but knowing that she is the rightful owner of everything and yet, it was me who was living in it made my c*hest ache. Mostly because I knew that she was choosing to be quiet about it. Had she been able to speak about it and had she being open about it was something that was going to make things easier, at least I would have known how to deal with everything. But now I knew that I couldn’t deal with it. I knew that she was masking all her pain with a smile. And though I was quiet about it, it didn’t mean that I was blind.
She didn’t deserve what she was going through, and yet, she didn’t complain or object, if anything, it seemed to me like she accepted it, and that was something that worried me. If I would have known her any better, I would have thought that she was planning a revenge and that was not something that I wanted to deal with. Especially considering the fact that I knew for a fact that if she planned on something, she did it, and that was not something that anyone would want to deal with, especially not in the state that she was in.
I wasn’t stupid, and I knew that my wife didn’t accept anything easily.
If anything, I knew and could tell that she had her own plans, but what they were, I didn’t know.
However, if they had anything to do with getting her revenge, then I knew that my father was in for a treat, and the thing was, I didn’t know if I was too.
“I’ll go and freshen up.” She said, and I nodded, watching as she got up from her chair to head to the restroom while I looked out the window as I held on to my daughter. The plane was walking on the runway, reaching its station, making my heart race. But the fact that I knew that I was going to be lost in so many thoughts was not something that I could handle. Especially considering the fact that everything was going to pile up on us right now, that we’re going to have to deal with so much, and I didn’t know how we were going to cope with everything that we were going to deal with. Especially when I knew that we were not even honest with one another. At least I knew that my wife wasn’t. She was quiet, and her quietness was not something that I actually trusted. Especially not at this point when he knew that she was being supportive despite the fact that I could tell that she was in pain. My wolf could feel her pain and has been warning me about it for days, but I was choosing to ignore it until we left.
The fact that I was in pain was something that I couldn’t deny. Not only did I lose my pack, but I also didn’t know where they were. Kale’s words played in my head at the fact that they might have escaped or tried to. That fact alone was enough to worry me as I didn’t know where to find them and whether or not Kale was being honest. He could have easily been trying to lure me in for a trap, and that wasn’t something that I could afford; however, now, to my pack, I was the coward that ran away and abandoned them, and that was something that I was more than just ashamed about.
Scarlett walked back toward me and frowned when she saw my distanced eyes. I could see her through the window and could tell that she was trying to study my expression enough to read it. But she couldn’t, she knew that I wasn’t the easy man that could be read as easily as she might have wanted to read me.
“I know that you are trying to mask your emotions but the two of us know that I can read you like an open book.” She said, taking a seat beside me. The thing was, at this point, I didn’t even know whether or not she trusted me. And in turn, as much as I hated admitting it, I didn’t know if I could trust her.
She was angry and I knew that she could easily act on impulse, and that wasn’t something that I wanted. If anything, I wanted her to be calm when the two of us spoke. But right now, I knew that it would be almost impossible to escape her questioning, and the thing was, I wouldn’t be able to blame her for her questions. If anything, I knew that I would have been asking her more if I was in her state.
“We’ll talk about it when we get down from the plane, but now is really not the time to talk about these topics, don’t you think?” I said, and she frowned in confusion at my response. She wouldn’t be answering me in public, and I knew not to embarrass her in private, but at least, when the two of us were together, we were going to make it clearer to one another what we wanted and how were going to handle things.
“Alexander, the plane has a few minutes, and I think that clearing a few thoughts would help you with your further steps, but right now, you are acting like…”
“Scarlett, you just take care of Anastasia and let me do the h*ard work. As for whatever I have to do later this afternoon, you can choose one, two, three, and four, things to talk about when we are home, but right now, I was barely able to think straight.” I said, looking my wife in the eye as the plane landed completely before the doors opened, revealing the flight attendants who were seated as the plane landed, we were just waiting for the plane to stop completely, and then we can leave.
Thankfully, we mostly didn’t have any luggage with us due to the run, but that didn’t mean that it would be lasting forever, we were going to be rising from the ashes. And now, we were going to start getting ready for the upcoming war between the kingdoms. The strength that we needed to take over this, everything that has happened was one that I didn’t know how we were going to get, but I also knew that we were going to be able to reach towards what we needed. We just needed time and patience and that was something that I had, especially right now. The determination that I was in was one that I couldn’t have been able to deal with or have had it not been for my wife.
“I am only trying to help you, Alexander.” She said, her tone somewhat hurt by my behavior. If anything, I couldn’t blame her, but now, I didn’t have the time to worry about it. “But you can suit yourself. For now, how about we get out of this plane and airport before anything stops us, and if anything, this country was thousandth of miles away from the States.
I looked at my wife for a few second, studying her expression before deciding not to dwell on the subject. The last thing that we both needed was an argument after this long day.
I turned to the window just as the plane stopped completely, welcome to Moscow…”
