Lina stretched out her hand to help Hadwin Stephenson to get up, but he glanced at her hand before looking at her face. “If you don’t feel that way about me, don’t touch me.”
“I… I’m just trying to help you to get up.”
“That’s not necessary,” he said as he staggered to his feet.
“Lina, how are you?” Anthony Sherman rushed over and asked.
“I’m alright. I’m not hurt,” said Lina.
‘It’s just that… What about Hadwin Stephenson? Is he okay? I even fell on top of him after that fall Is he really okay?!
Stephenson, thank you for saving Lina just now.”
Hadwin Stephenson raised an eyebrow and seemed to speak with sarcasm, “Are you thanking me?”
“Yes, I’m thanking you. Is there a problem?” said Anthony Sherman as he met Hadwin Stephenson’s eyes.
Hadwin Stephenson’s eyes darkened, and his face seemed to be covered with a layer of gloom. However, Anthony Sherman met his eyes calmly without even dodging.
In the end, it was Hadwin Stephenson who looked away first. He looked at Holly Greer, who was still standing at the top of the escalator.
His cold gaze made Holly Greer, who was still standing at the same spot, suddenly come to her senses. She frantically shook her hands and said, “I… I didn’t mean it. I didn’t mean it…” With that, she escaped without looking back.
“That darn Holly Greer! She didn’t mean it? She went too far!”
Lina snapped, but how could she catch up to Holly Greer now?
“The mall has surveillance cameras. Report it to the police and ask them to check the surveillance footage. The woman won’t be able to escape this,” said Anthony Sherman.
Lina nodded.
Hadwin Stephenson turned around without saying a word, intending to leave.
“Wait!” Lina tried to grab Hadwin Stephenson almost subconsciously, but he avoided her by turning away slightly.
“I told you. If you don’t feel that way about me, don’t touch me!” Hadwin Stephenson said coldly.
“I just want to make sure you’re okay,” said Lina.
Hadwin Stephenson suddenly chortled. “What if I said I’m not okay? What will you do then?”
Lina froze, and Hadwin Stephenson left.
“Mr. Stephenson probably still loves you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have saved you like that.” Anthony Sherman’s voice rang out casually. Lina bit her lip, her heart filled with an unspeakable feeling.
‘Does he love me? Maybe. Maybe it’s just like what he told me… He never loved Katherine Jackson and has loved me all along.’
However, she dared not love him again. Five years had taken away her courage and recklessness. She had more things to care about now. She did not want her elderly parents to worry about her and just wanted to live a peaceful life.
Just then, the mall’s security guard came and asked Lina and Anthony Sherman, “Were you the one pushed down the escalator just now? Are you hurt?”
“No.” Lina shook her head.
Just then, one of the security guards said, “What’s going on? Is someone bleeding? Is anyone else injured besides you?”
‘Bleeding?’ Lina froze. Following the security guard’s gaze, she saw a smear of red blood on the steps of the escalator!
The escalator steps were dark gray, so the blood was not that obvious. It was why Lina did not notice it just now.
‘The blood belongs to… Hadwin Stephenson!
‘That’s where Hadwin Stephenson fell just now!’
Lina suddenly felt something pressing her chest, making her gasp for breath a little. He was hurt but did not say anything!
If she had been more careful, or if he had not been wearing dark clothes, she would have noticed!
Once she was back home, Lina could not sleep. She kept thinking of Hadwin Stephenson and how they fell earlier whenever she closed her eyes.
‘Why didn’t he tell me about his injury? Does he want nothing more to do with me?
IThen why did be cave me? Why did be happen to be there?’
For a moment, all sorts of doubts filled her mind.
When she thought it was over between them, he suddenly told her he had always been in love with her.
Just when she thought she had made it clear to him that it was not going to work, he saved her.
It was as if they kept getting entangled with each other and could not sort it out no matter what.
Lina could not sleep, so she picked up her phone and looked at the time. It was already past two in the morning. She got up and went to the window to open it for some fresh air.
However, she was stunned the moment she opened it. From her window, she could see a figure leaning against a car and looking up at her.
It was Hadwin Stephenson!
In a daze, Lina looked down at the figure. The moonlight fell on his figure, seemingly covering him with a veil and making him look more cold and ethereal.
She even thought that he was only a figment of her imagination and he was not really here.
Their gazes met.
Moments later, Hadwin Stephenson looked away and opened the car door, looking like he was about to leave. Without thinking, Lina blurted out, “Don’t go!”
Her voice was particularly clear in the silent night.
Hadwin Stephenson stiffened, but he still opened the door and got in the car anyway.
Lina turned around and darted out of her bedroom. She ran out of the house and rushed downstairs.
She did not know why she was running after him. He had no intention of staying, and she could not possibly catch him!
However, it was as if her impulse had taken over her reason at this moment.
By the time she reached the spot where his car was parked earlier, it was empty! It was just an empty lot!
He left!
Lina sighed, feeling a little disappointed. She turned around to go home when a cold voice suddenly rang out behind her. “What’s the matter? Are you looking for me?”
She instantly paused and turned around, only to see Hadwin Stephenson standing ten meters away!
‘He’s… still here?’
Lina was dumbfounded. Then, she saw Hadwin Stephenson approaching her step by step. “Are you looking for me?” he repeated the question earlier.
Lina finally came to her senses, took a deep breath, and said, “Yes! Did you hurt yourself when you fell down the escalator today? Where did you hurt yourself?”
