–

“Any girls with crushes on you who might try to eliminate me?”

Zane’s eyes went black. “No one can dare to say a word about you, Lia, let alone try to hurt you.”

A smile made its way onto my lips. “You’re so protective of me.”

“Why wouldn’t I be? You’re the one I breathe for.”

I leaned in and kissed him again.

“Okay,” he said, pulling away, “I don’t have so much self control, alright? You gotta stop. Go put something on and get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us.”

I frowned. “Why?”

“We have to do that thing, love.”

“Oh. Right. The tracker installation, you mean.”

“Yeah,” he said softly. “I’m so sorry it has to be this way.”

“It’s not your fault. You’re only doing what’s best for me, Zane. I know that.”

He cupped my cheek, finally putting me down. “You’re dealing with all of this so well. I am so proud of you. Always my brave little Lia.”

My cheeks flamed for some reason.

“What?” He laughed. “Why are you blushing?” He poked my cheek.

“I don’t know,” I replied.

“Cutie.”

I rolled my eyes. “Shut up. Let go of me now, I have to change.”

Zane tightened his hold on me, scrunching up his nose. “Do you have to?”

“You’re the one who just told me to!” I said incredulously.

“I’m an idiot,” he cried, nuzzling his face into the crook of my neck.

I squealed. “That tickles.” I laughed.

“Let it,” he replied.

“No,” I squirmed. “Away. Shoo.”

Zane pulled away, eyes narrowed, a look of offense on his face. “You’re shooing me like a cat.”

“No, a dog.”

He raised a brow.

“Okay, I’m sorry. Please don’t do it.”

He smirked. “Good girl.”

“You cannot always threaten me with tickling just because you’re stronger and I can’t fight you off.” I deadpanned.

“I just did. And I will continue to do it. So be a good girl and obey me.”

“You wish.”

“Fair enough. Now go change.” He stepped away from me.

“Okay.” I stepped towards my closet, then realisation struck me and I gaped at him. “No. I will not do as you say.”

Zane laughed. “Almost got you.”

“Almost. Now I will go and change because I want to, not because you told me to. You understand?”

“Of course.” He nodded. “Do whatever you want. I allow you.”

“Hey!” I scowled. “Stop acting like the boss of me.”

He was so amused it was stupid.

“Okay, okay. I won’t act like the boss of you.”

“Good.”

“Go now.”

I crossed my arms. “I’m not going.”

“Goddess, Lia, stop acting like a baby now.” He pushed me towards the closet.

I finally smiled. “Fine.”

When I woke up the next morning, Zane was still beside me.

He was sleeping soundly, his arm around my waist, his face. snuggled into my hair.

I smiled at him, my chest filling with warmth. I resisted the urge to touch him for a moment, but then I gave in, tracing my hand down his cheek. His thick eyelashes fluttered slightly, nose. scrunching a little. I froze my movements, not wanting to wake him up.

I didn’t know how long it had been since he got a good night’s sleep. Ever since The Order tried to kill me, Zane had been spending the night at my house, staying awake and watching met all night. He left for one night, and I’d disappeared, so he decided to spend every night here from now on. When he tucked. me in the previous night, he was confident he wouldn’t sleep. But seeing him so at peace right now, beside me, holding me, filled me with utmost joy.

This boy deserved everything the world could offer.

And I couldn’t even be the Luna he deserved by his side.

Sometimes I wondered if he’d be better off without me.

“Good morning, my love.”

I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn’t even realise when he opened his eyes.

-LIA’S POV-

“Oh, you’re up. I’m so sorry, did I wake you?” I asked.

“No, baby. You didn’t,” he reassured.

I smiled. “Baby?”

“Mhm?”

“You called me that for the first time, I think.”

“Really?” He frowned. “I can’t recall. In either case, it suits you.”

I grinned. “Why are you so good to me?”

He raised his eyebrows at me. “You have to ask?”

“Yes.”

“Because I love you? Because you’re the kindest and the prettiest. And the funniest.”

“You think I’m funny?”

“I think you’re everything I could have ever asked for.”

I pressed my hands to my cheeke

“You make my cheeks hurt from smiling too much.”

Zane laughed “Suffering from success are we?”
