Filed To Story: The Alpha's Betrayal and Promise Novel
(Alexander)
It took everything in me to drive away from the pack that I have been taking care of for years. It sickened me that I had to deal with this, and it sickened me even more that I couldn’t do anything about it. But I knew better than to think or ask too many questions, right now, I needed to get my daughter and wife away from the pack. Whatever was going to happen, I can deal with it later.
“Alexander…”
“Not now, Scarlett.” I said, stopping her as we got inside the safe house. It was one that I knew no one knew about. For now, all I can do is hope that we could leave the pack safely without being caught. I needed to get my daughter out of here, and I needed to make sure that she lived and survived.
I had bought it a few years back for both Delilah and I. But the woman never did come to it once. The safe house was one that nob*ody knew about. It was the only place that I could think of that nob*ody knew about. Even Delilah, the woman that I bought it for, didn’t know where it was. It was supposed to be a surprise for her, but the two of us never had the time to come here. If anything, we had our own duties and our own places. To go to a safe house was something that she didn’t want.
I walked toward the bedroom, ignoring the pain that I was feeling as I heard Scarlett instruct the maids to take Anastasia to the living room while she followed me.
I knew that Scarlett was scared. She had a lot of to deal with and has gone through more than anyone could actually cope with. However, I was glad that she was supporting me through this. I was glad that she didn’t actually turn against me. I wouldn’t have blamed her if she did. If anything, what you found out was supposed to break. That was something that I knew for a fact.
She didn’t say a word, not that she needed to, before she wrapped her arms around me from the back, hugging me tightly. She lay her head on the center of my back, and I couldn’t help but feel like my breath was caught in my throat. Mostly because it was as I didn’t know what to do.
“I couldn’t defend her like I was supposed to…”
“Alex, you can’t be blaming yourself right now. You know that this is not something that you can handle.” She whispered, stopping me. She turned me around to face her and I shook my head, unable to look her in the eye. The woman was still in her wedding dress, and rather than this being a night for her to cherish and remember, it was a night of torment for the two of us. This was supposed to be a night for the two of us. It was supposed to be a night. She remembered for all eternity. However, it ended up turning out to be the worst night of our lives. It turned out to be in height, where she found out about her parents and her family being turned down by the pack. It was something that even I didn’t know about it, and that was something that I could have just drop.
“I am so sorry…” She wrapped her arms around me and lowered my forehead to her shoulder, allowing me to breakdown. The thing was, I couldn’t do it. If anything, it was her that was supposed to be breaking down. It was her who was damaged and was hurt. Yes, I have to admit, my mother’s life was on the line here. I didn’t even know what fate she was dealing with. But she was the one who got most damage.
The fact that she was allowing me to open up the way that she was, was enough for me to somewhat feel like I wasn’t alone. It wasn’t the fact that she was there, but it was the fact that I knew that I had someone by my side, regardless of the situation that I was in. She ran her fingers through my hair, allowing me to know that she was there for me. When I was the one who was supposed to be there for her. The thing is, I didn’t know how to explain it jar. Maybe she knew, but maybe she didn’t want me to think about it. She just wanted to support me.
“I know that this is h*ard but we will find a way out of this.” She whispered to me, her tone softer than it had ever been. The fact that I knew that I didn’t deserve this would not be a lie. It was something that she had every right to go against me on, and instead, I could tell that she was trying her best to support me with everything that she could.
“The man is going to have her killed, Scarlett, how the f*uck…?”
“The woman is his mate, regardless of the situation, I don’t think that he would kill her.” She said, stopping me. “We are going to need to be optimistic here. But the two of us are also going to have to find a way to fend for ourselves. We are still in the same territory, and considering the fact that he obviously just claimed the pack as his own…”
“The pack is not his and will never…”
“Alexander, the pack is his by default right now, and the two of us know this very well.” She said, stopping me. “As painful as it is, the two of us know it. Right now is not the right time for this argument. The two of us need to think of a way to get you out of here without you getting killed.”
It was at this moment that I felt like I wasn’t alone. The anger and the greed that I had toward her was something that I couldn’t find myself getting over. Had it been anyone else, I knew that they might have chosen to just let me go and leave. However, she wasn’t doing that. If anything, she was being the backbone that I needed. And she was the last person that I expected today. If anything, I would have expected her to be anything but trying to support me. The woman has gone through a lot because of me, and that was something that I couldn’t deny. It was something that she didn’t deserve, and yet I f*orced her to live through.
“What are we going to do, Scarlett? We just literally left with nothing, and now…”
“For now, the two of us need to get out of here alive. I know that things are going to be difficult, I am not stupid nor am I blind. But we are going to grow stronger and when we do, we will be coming back to the pack. However, we are going to need to ensure your and Anastasia’s safety.” She said, looking me dead in the eye. “I know that you are going to ask questions, but I will give you my response. My life is nothing without you two in it, and for that, I will not include myself. IF you want to see me alive, then you are going to fight to survive this. Otherwise, you might as well shoot me in the head.”
“Why?” I asked, frowning in confusion. The woman was in love with me despite everything that happened and was willing to fight for me despite all that I have put her through. I didn’t understand why she was doing what she was. I knew the most wouldn’t do anything that she was doing for me right now. Some would actually think that I deserved it. If anything, I knew personally that I did. I have heard her more than anyone has. I have broken her more than anyone has, and I have made fun of her more than anyone has. I also tried to kill her and that was something that she actually chose to let go of. I didn’t understand why.
“Excuse me?” She asked, frowning in confusion. I knew that my question took her off guard, but I had to know what her reasons were. If she had any motives that I had to know about, that was something that I couldn’t let go of. I was actually scared that it would end up turning against me, and that was not something that I could draw, especially not at the point that I was in.
“I put you through so much pain, and you cried a lot because of me. Why are you choosing to defend me?” I asked, shaking my head in question. The fact that I knew that I didn’t have anything to offer her was not going to be a lie. Therefore, for her to stay, that just came out as a surprise to me, especially when I knew that we were going to be going through more than just a little mess to cope with everything. “I have nothing to give you, and if it was about me being Alpha…”
“You know that I married you because I chose to love you. I don’t want you thinking that this would affect how I feel about you, Alex.” She said, her voice softening. “You and I both know that I grew up loving you, Alpha or not, you and I have grown up together for a long while for you to know me better than that, Alexander.”
I didn’t say a word to respond as I looked at her, studying her expression before she wrapped her arms around me, pulling me in for a hug. I hugged her back as if my life depended on it. The thing was, at this point, I believed that it did. Her presence was the ONLY thing that kept me standing and the thing was, I didn’t even know what I would do if not for it. But I knew one thing. If anything had happened to me today, she would be the one person that stood for me and would be fighting by my side. Wedding dress or not, she wouldn’t have minded and that was something that I need to keep in mind. It was something that I owed her my life for. Regardless of whatever she was going to say, I knew for a fact that I owed her everything that I had. And that was something that I had to repay her back for.
“We are going to get through this, Alex. We just need to be a little patient.” The thing was, it wasn’t about me losing myself as an Alpha. It is the fact that I knew that everything was lost in a span of a second, and the thing was, I didn’t even know how we were going to manage getting things back in track.
“I am so f*ucking lost, Scarlett…” I whispered. And choosing to be honest, at this point, I had nothing to lose. I lost my pack, my family and I didn’t even know what my mother’s fate was. It was something that scared and broke right, and that was something that I knew my father knew very well. If he had done this then he had done, it would break my heart and to break me. And that was something that he did to both me and my wife, and it was something that I was not going to forgive him for. Delilah and Jordan are the whole other story. Those who were going to suffer and pay greatly. If only I could actually get on my feet to do so. For now, all I could do is try to think. Think straight if I was going to be able to get out of this. Before now, I just needed to take deep breath. “So f*ucking lost….”
