I can’t help but burst out laughing at the question as well as the look on his face. He looks like a kid who just found out Santa Claus is fake. I try to gather my bearings as I laughingly shake out “that was you?! And well, to be fair, I didn’t have my dragon yet back then. And I didn’t understand why yet, but Liberty insisted on not shifting unless I killed the rogues I was facing. She was scared we would be captured. And as I said, we have yet to discover her powers, which is why I need access to books on white wolves so much. So far, I have only been able to unlock something when I got beyond livid” I confess. “Well, remind me not to piss you off” Nick laughs as his entire face lights up, and I can’t help but return the smile. He is the first one who hasn’t abandoned me yet, even through hardships and flat out dangerous situations.

I am brought back from my thoughts when he asks “what’s on your mind? You seem deep in thoughts”. “Many things actually, but among one how you are the only one who has stuck by me through all hardships” I give a sad smile. He squeezes my hand, giving me a reassuring smile. “I will be here until you no longer want me” “yeah or when you find your second chance mate. I just hope we could stay friends then. But you will probably be too busy making pups to be hanging around lil old me” I tease, although it is exactly what would happen. She wolves don’t like their mates being friends with another she wolf, wolves are very possessive of their mates. And frankly, I get it. 99% of the she wolves I have come across have been vicious, and do not seem to care if a wolf is mated or not. Either way, at least the wolf himself should care not to double cross his mate. And knowing Nick, he would never do such a thing. “Lola you know what happened with my first fated mate. I don’t want another fated mate, you know where I stand and what I want and it’s not changing” “I can’t imagine the moon goddess making such a horrible mistake to such a precious person twice, Nick. I am positive your next mate will be all you have ever wanted, and I don’t want you to give that up, you deserve happiness. They always say loving your fated mate is so much more intense than a chosen one. You shouldn’t reject her without getting to know her”.

“Says the girl who rejected her only chance at a fated mate”, he gives me a pointed look. “That’s different! I did get to know them. They are absolute *ssholes, whereas you don’t even know the girl yet!” “Alright fair enough. But either way if you would have me, I would reject her”. As he speaks the last part he hunches over in pain, placing his arm around his abdomen. “Nick!!! What’s wrong?!” I cry frantically. “It’s nothing….” He starts to say, but before he can finish I cut him off “don’t give me that! You have been in pain for goddess knows how long now. We have to go see a doctor”. He smiles “it’s alright baby girl. Besides, you and I both know we can’t exactly go to a pack doctor”. “We’ll go to the human one then!” “You know we can’t Lola. They’ll immediately recognize my accelerated healing and we can’t let humans know about our existence”. I ponder on it for a while, there has to be something we can do. And then it hits me – I know exactly what to do!

** Sunday **

Lola POV

Today is the day I have to entertain the 2 knuckleheads. To say I am not looking forward to it would be the understatement of the century. The day can’t go by fast enough for me. The only thing good that will come from today will be that I am going to arrange Nick the medical attention he needs. Even if it means I’ll have to do something I really don’t want to, I will. Nick is the only important person in my life and I will do whatever it takes. Of course I won’t let dumb & dumber know that, I need to appear to have the upper hand and trick them into it. It’s 11:45 and I am stepping out of the house and rounding the corner when the familiar evergreen and cedarwood scent hits my nose. As sh*tty as they are, I have to admit their scent is maddeningly delicious. Zeke and Zane come into view, they are leaning against a big black limousine. They are both dressed in a 3-piece dark blue suit with a white shirt. They are wearing cognac colored dress shoes and their entire appearance looks like they just stepped off of a runway. Even though I hate and loathe them, I am not blind. And they look devilishly handsome with their playfully styled blonde locks and smoldering green eyes, who are watching me intently. Every woman walking on the street turns and stares at them and it’s annoying as f*ck. Sure they are good-looking, but their personalities don’t match their appearance. I deliberately didn’t dress up as I want them to accept the rejection, not stir up anything that doesn’t need stirring. So, I am wearing normal skinny jeans, a pair of semi-long black biker boots, a black sweater vest and a t-shirt underneath it.

I was purposefully aiming to irk them with my choice of clothing. Nothing that shows my curves, and nothing befitting of a royal one’s mate. But instead of getting the aggravated reactions I was expecting, I am met with 2 beaming smiles. Zane clears his throat and speaks up first, with a glint in his eyes “you look stunning as always”. Zeke is eyeing me up and down and just as I thought at least 1 of the 2 would scold me on my choice of attire, he says “you are breathtaking, you know that?”. He holds out his hand for me, to escort me into the limousine, but I don’t take it. “Thanks. So, where are the books?” I was hoping to just grab the books and run, I could get Nick sorted through Drake perhaps. But I guess they saw that coming as Zeke smirks “you will get them after the date, kitten. We don’t want you bailing halfway now, do we”. Well, I kind of would…. I can’t help but take a jab “Wow, guess you are smarter than you look. And STOP calling me kitten!”. I mean.. I agreed on spending the day, that is as far as my commitment goes. I can be the snarky little b*tch I am.

They both laugh and Zane replies “feisty as always. And I guess we had that one coming. We were given the most beautiful girl alive as our mate, and we blew it”. I lose my internal battle to sustain from rolling my eyes, as I sneer “could you suck up any harder, really? And FYI, for people who actually have a heart and a personality, looks aren’t the only thing that matters”. I have been itching to tell them off. They can compliment my looks all they want, complimenting someone’s personality is the real compliment. Their smiles falter as they take a deep sigh, and Zeke just offers his hand again to help me in. I disregard his hand and climb into the limousine. Not long after, Zeke and Zane follow in as well. Zeke comes to sit next to me and Zane sits across from me. Both of them are pretty big and even though this is a big limo, the space is still filled up easily with 2 bulky men.
