“That is complicated, but Calvin did have his reasons. You’re also aware that he was in Italy waiting for her plane to land, right there to see it crash. Their divorce is not what it seems. But it had to happen for other things to fall into place. Only Marrin wasn’t informed of Calvin’s reason, hence this colossal mess we’re in now,”
“Does he love Marrin or hate Marrin?”
Casey asked with a heavy sigh. The man had listened and seemed to understand he’d thought.
“He loves Marrin, but all those other women, pretending to be her, have royally screwed him up, and he thinks anyone that looks like her needs to be outed and punished by him for trying to trick him. That’s how this happened and got out of hand.”
“It’s not right William, she did nothing wrong to him,”
Casey muttered.
“Tm aware,”
Wil nodded.
“And I’m working on it, sorting it all out. It’s not going to be easy for me, certainly not fun for him or Marilyn. And when I do tell him after many months of him letting it go, and learning to come back to normal, the actual truth is likely going to nearly kill him. When he realises he has injured the woman he actually loves, solely because of a dark, twisted obsession where he thought she was an impostor,”
He sighed. Even now, Wil was not looking forward to that day arriving, even though he knew it was months away.
“Then just stay out of it, and don’t tell him William. She has no memories of him or being Marrin. Her medical files state she actually has amnesia, so we should all just leave it alone,”
Casey told him,
“The boys, Casey… if not for them and what I suspect, seeing you’re doggedly dodging my questions about them. That is the problem. If they’re not his, I will leave it alone completely, and never tell him, but if they are his… as I now suspect, he has a right to know about them and they him. Who their dad is and live the life they should have been given from the moment they were born….
“Calvin loved Marrin and wanted a family with her. That was in fact the very reason for their divorce. Their original prenup had many clauses, one that prevented them from starting a family.”
He told Casey, it was close enough to the truth..
Casey frowned deeply,
“That could be amended without the need for a divorce. A post??uptial agreement. could have been made.”
“Oh, I know that. I tried to talk Calvin into that, but he’s so bloody stubborn and set in his way of thinking. He had a grand plan in his mind and wouldn’t let it go. He couldn’t see that it was going to backfire on him, which of course it did. Calvin is highly intelligent but emotionally stunted at the same time. Like most geniuses are. They think they are always right, even when they’re not.”
“So you want me to help you get them back together?”
Casey sighed heavily now.
“No, all I want from you is to see the boys, to know how old they are and what their names are. All of these things I will keep to myself until I believe Calvin has gotten past his obsession, or can at least be in control of himself around Marilyn,”
Wil told him.
“I know there will be footage of the boys here as well.”
Casey nodded,
“Something I myself kept from Calvin, because of all that was going on with Marilyn, and all he’d done to the others that looked like her,”
he muttered. Casey did know that Calvin wasn’t actually a monster of a man. He could see that he was a tortured soul, that just wanted to be left alone by those claiming to be Marrin.
He stood and motioned for Wil to follow him and took him to security and had the footage of the day Marilyn was taken to the VIP room brought up for him to see. The two boys were right there with her.
“Twins, both with black hair and hazel green eyes.”
Casey had stated
“I made sure that was kept from Calvin due to the circumstances.”
He had the photo printed out and gave it to him, it wasn’t the best quality but at least it was something,
“I read in her medical file that she found out she was pregnant during her stay in the hospital, after her emergency surgery. They’re lucky to have survived, as was she.”
Will nodded as he took the picture and looked at it. This was going to help with proof, now he just needed to get a DNA test done, though that would be more difficult to get. He didn’t even know where, in Virginia, Marilyn lived. But if they were Calvin’s boys, as he suspected, that would also prove Marilyn was Marrin, and he could register her DNA on file, so this couldn’t happen ever again.
Wil
Over the past month, between himself and Anabell, they had managed to piece together everything bit by bit, the entire timeline of how and when Marrin had changed her name and became Marilyn.
It had started for her the very day after she’d signed the divorce papers, being that she was so good at researching herself she’d found out and managed to organise the changing of her name to Marilyn Riddley, who was or had been her pen name for her writing career, that no one had known about.
She’d had six weeks to gather everything in duplicate or triplicate for all the parties involved that would need to have them for the process to be official. She had even gotten her appointment with a judge to make it all official in advance, and lined it up for the day she was to get on the plane. Her flight had been in the early morning and her court appointment late in the afternoon.
Marrin had even gone out of her way to do this in a smaller court, local to where Cliffside Manor was and not here in the city. She had on purpose, he thought, avoided any place she might see him on that day. She did not have to announce it in the papers for all to see, as some would have to do; because it was after her divorce, and she had a legitimate reason to change her name. It wasn’t to hide from anyone.
“She’s smart,”
Anabell told him.
“Left nothing to chance.”
She stated as they stood looking at the pin board with all the information laid out on it in full finally, the timeline in place for everything that had happened.
Marrin had paid cash for everything from the moment she’d left the airport.
“She never intended to get on that plane at all.”
Wil sighed a little heavily.
“No, but stayed put and waited for the flight to board, even had her ticket scanned at boarding.”
Anabell shook her head.
“She made it look as though she intended on getting on that flight.”
