(Alexander)
I watched as my mate mingled around with the other women who seemed to be enjoying her presence.
She had been alone for far too long, separated and away from all social events that I was surprised how easy she got herself around them. Some were even fighting to sit with or speak to her. Her eyes would occasionally meet mine as the night went on. Anastasia was already inside the house and asleep. And Delilah, who despite being kicked out, was sitting on a chair by the bar as she sipped on a martini while her father watched her from a distance.
The man didn’t know that his daughter wanted to be ‘saved’ from him, and having heard it from Scarlett, in front of everyone, he was more than just a little furious, and I knew that things wouldn’t be ending well for Delilah when she got home. However, I didn’t know whether to worry about her or not care, but judging by the fact that I knew who Jordan was, I knew that she would most likely not even be allowed back within the pack’s grounds.
Her siblings didn’t bother showing up to the gathering, and that meant that she purposely had her father coming with her, maybe believing that he could fix things between us. I can only assume now that she was more than just a little scared about the consequences and the outcomes of this, especially since she knew that things were not going to go as she planned for them to go.
“What are you going to do about Jordan?” Dad asked, taking me off guard. I sighed and shook my head. The man and I weren’t on the best of terms as it was, but judging by the fact that his daughter was my girlfriend, he chose to stay tamed as he ensured her safety. But I knew that it wouldn’t be the case now that he was aware that the two of us were not together anymore. If anything, I could tell that he was going to be more than just a little happy about the conflict that we were having now.
“I don’t know, but I know that things are not going to end well for Delilah, and despite not really caring about it; I can’t really help but think that the man is going to kill his daughter because of us” I said, making my father frown in confusion. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, shaking my head as I tried to calm myself down “she came here to run from him, when she initially did. She didn’t tell me that straight forward before, but she seemed to be scared, and one night when the two of us were asleep together, she was having a nightmare. She grew restless and frightened, and at first, she refused to tell me what was going on. Only when I opened the topic up months later did she tell me that she was scared that he would hurt her”
“And one day, he literally came to her, after finding her, and wanted to hurt her for running away. I stood in his face and stopped him. The man was furious, I knew that, and could have badly hurt her, I saw that in his eyes, and I saw the fear in hers. In her eyes, since that night, I was her savior. But things just flipped one day when she was fighting me for positions, power, and whatever she could gain while being an Alphas mate. The issue was, she was breaking inside, and was afraid that she would be killed. That only resulted in her breaking those that were around her” I said, looking at Delilah who took a shot of vodka. The woman was drunk enough as it was, and I didn’t know how the night was going to end if she proceeded with this many drinks; however, judging by the current circumstances, I couldn’t tell that it wasn’t going to be fun and games.
“Why don’t I know of this?” Dad asked, breaking my attention. “I was Alpha at the time, and I believe that you do remember telling me that you wanted nothing to do with what I did and didn’t do concerning my pack. I understand that your words were mostly out of concern and wanting me to deal with things on my own, but I chose to take them seriously and chose to work on my own to get what I wanted. Thankfully, all worked out well despite all the pressure that I was under” I said, and dad sighed before shaking his head at me. “Does Scarlett know?”
“She knows a few things, but she never knew about the last encounter. She knew that he threatened to kill Delilah and as you can remember, at first, both lived together in one house. It wasn’t until Delilah and I got serious together that Delilah just flipped. I don’t know, maybe it was her seeing me entering Scarlett’s room at the time. We were friends, and we mostly preferred talking in private, so it was in her room while she was home. Or maybe when she would enter the house to find her curled up in my arms. Either way, she was obviously jealous of her” I said, making my father sigh. “You know, I don’t like saying this, especially not to my son; but I told you that being with that woman would be bad for you. I know that now is not the best time to say this, and I know that you might not need to hear this; but you made the worst decision in your life choosing to have Delilah as part of your life” he said, making me let out a low chuckle. His eyes met mine and I looked at my mate whose eyes met mine before I nodded at her.
“I am aware, but meeting her only brought me closer to the woman of my dreams” I said, excusing myself to my mate who was watching me. Her eyes met mine and I smiled before wrapping my arms around her and pulling her to my c*hest. She giggled as she laid her head on my shoulder, and twirling her around despite the low music that wasn’t really for slow dancing, I pulled her to my c*hest as I k*issed her cheek from the back.
“Something tells me that you are in a good mood?” Scarlett said, teasing me. I turned her around and pulled her back to my c*hest as I ran my finger over her waist. Her eyes met mine and leaning in, I connected my l*ips with hers. “Can I ask you a question? And I want an honest and quick answer” I said, making her frown in confusion. Her eyes were fixed on mine as she studied my expression for a second before I pulled a ring out of her finger. It was one that I was surprised that she still wore even after all those years. The ring was a promise ring that I got for her when the two of us were younger.
Flashback:
“Where are we going, Alexander?” Scarlett asked, laughing as I pulled her toward the forest. It was her birthday, and I was determined on making the day as beautiful as possible for her, especially since I knew that she had no one to consider as her close family. Her eyes studied mine “Alex, Delilah would be waiting for me for us to get ready”
“I am aware, Neonata, but…” I pulled a ring out of my pocket, making her frown in confusion “I wanted to give you this for your birthday”
“Alex…”
“It’s a promise ring” I said, making her cheeks redden “that the two of us would be friends, and close until the end of time. We would never let anyone get in the way of our friendship, and we will always be there for each other, no matter what the outcomes might be”
Scarlett laughed before nodding as I slid the ring in her finger. Her eyes met mine before she hugged me tightly. Her small arms wrapping around me as she rested her head on the crook of my n*eck making me smile as I purred, my wolf adoring her scent.
“The two of us would be friends until the end of time, Alex. That is something that I never want changing” she said, making my heart skip a beat.
“Neither do I, little wolf…”
End of Flashback.
Little did I know that I would be the one to break the two of us up at the time, but nevertheless, the day was one that would break our friendship up for someone else, for Delilah to be more specific, simply because I chose to give her a second’s notice.
I got down on one knee, smiling at my beauty whose eyes were wide in surprise as I held the promise ring that I gave her years ago. I knew that I was going to change it to one that fit her standards in my eyes, but for now, I wanted those who believed that they could break us up to know that she was mine and I hers, and that the two of us were not going to leave one another no matter how h*ard they tried to break us up. It was only a matter of time for us to prove it, but I was determined to be the one to not only prove it, but to make sure that no one forgot about it. Not even her.
“Will you marry me, Scarlett?” I asked, taking her off guard. Her heart raced and looking at the people around us, I smiled, watching as she bit down her bottom l*ip “will you make me the happiest man alive seeing you wear that beautiful white dress as you walked down the aisle for me?”
“Yes” she said, nodding at me. I smiled and put the ring inside her finger, watching as she giggled. I got up from my knee as everyone around us cheered, and lifting her in my arms, I twirled her around as she laughed before k*issing her.
“Need I ask what are you doing?” She teased as I put her down. “Announcing my love to my one and only in the way I see best” I whispered to her “you are mine and mine alone. And I, yours, baby girl”
“I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but I f*ucking love you, Alexander”
“I love you too, baby girl, more than I could have ever imagined, and more than I could ever describe…”
