My jaw set when I saw him.
The injuries Zane had probably given him were already gone. It was annoying to see him look so fit and unharmed after what he did to me.
“Hey, Lia,” he said softly, offering me a small, timid smile.
How I wanted to slap it off his face.
“Upstairs,” I said simply, before making my way to my bedroom. He followed close behind, and my heart hammered in my chest as I stepped in, giving him space to join me. The moment Blake entered my room, I closed the door shut, and he was immediately slammed against the wall by Zane.
I wasn’t even surprised to see him here.
“You piece of shit,” Zane growled. “How dare you. show up here after what you pulled today? I warned you that I would kill you.”
“Hey, hey, please,” Blake cried, raising his hands in surrender. “I’m here to apologise, nothing else.”
“Shove it up your ass,” I snapped. “I don’t want your apology, Blake, I want you to stay the hell away from me.”
Blake lowered his gaze, a pained expression on his face. “What I did today wasn’t me, Lia. You have to believe me,” he begged.
“Bullshit,” Zane growled, his eyes black. He slammed Blake harder against the wall.
“Zane,” I cried, “the wall.”
Zane threw him on the ground, stepping away from him.
“Leave,” he ordered.
“I just want to talk to-“
“You have three seconds. Leave, or I will kill you.”
“Lia,” Blake cried.
“Don’t say her name! Three. Two.”
“Alright, I’m leaving!” Blake shouted, his jaw clenched. “Don’t start a fight in front of her.” He stood up and hurried to the window.
“Run like the coward you are,” I said. “And don’t show your face. again.”
Blake escaped through the window, and Zane pulled me to his chest.
“You okay?”
I sighed. “Yeah. I’m getting used to it at this point.” tr G
-LIA’S POV-
“How did he heal so quickly?” I asked Zane, confused.
He kept his arms around my waist and stared down at me. “He must have his own healer.”
“Like Emerald?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry about it, it’s normal.”
“Werewolves heal that quick?” I asked.
“Yeah. Unless they’re attacked with silver or wolfsbane.”
“Oh,” I muttered.
“I just told you how to kill me,” he whispered, leaning his forehead against mine. “You’re not gonna use this against me, are you?”
I smiled, rolling my eyes. “I absolutely will. I will poison you.”
“With wolfsbane?”
“Mhm.”
“That won’t kill me though. You’ll have to get your hands dirty love. Bathe in my blood.”
“Hm,” I said, pretending to think. “Willlitike you unconscious?”
“Possibly, yes.”
“Then what’s the point in killing you? Isimply need you at my mercy.”
Zane laughed out loud. “I see,” he grinned, “are you going to assault me, Lia Snow?”
“Maybe,” I teased, before getting on the tips of my foessand pressing a kiss to his lips.
Sparks shot through my body, my stomach filling with a swaaum of butterflies.
Zane beamed at me, his hold on my waist tightening. “I love you. Lia. You know that, right?”
“I do,” I replied.
“Good.”
He then lifted me into his arms, making me gasp, and carried me to my bed. He put me down, and then sat in front of me, dangerously close. I stared at him, unable to take my eyes off.
“Zane,” I said softly, cupping his face with both my hands.
“Hmm?” he asked, turning his head to plant a kiss onto my wrist.
“You’re beautiful,” I whispered, caressing his cheeks with the pads of my thumb. “Unbelievably so.”
“Thank you,” he replied, grinning from ear to ear.
“Is that a blush?” I asked, my own smile widening.
“Maybe?”
“God, you’re… incredible.”
“Careful, Lia,” Zane warned, leaning in closer. “I think you’re falling in love with me.”
I let my hands travel from his face to the back of his neck, entangling my fingers with the hair on the bottom of his head. “I don’t care,” I replied.
“You didn’t want a mate. You’re gonna let destiny decide who you be with?”
I shrugged. “If destiny chose me a man this good, who am I to question it?”
Zane bit his lip, staring at me. My heart did a funny flip. “Am I dreaming, Lia?”
“I don’t think so,” I said. “Am I?”
“I hope you are,” he replied. “Of a life with me.”
I leaned in again, and hugged him this time, wrapping my arms around his neck. “I am, but it’s scary.”
“Why?” he whispered in my ear, his breath tickling my skin.
I took a deep breath, my heart loud.
“Because you’re a werewolf, and I’m just a human.”
“If that’s a problem, we could change that. If you want it.”
My fingers grabbed onto the material of his shirt, my heart giving a thump in my chest. “Change me?”
“Yeah,” he replied. “There’s no way for me to turn human, or I’d do it to be with you.”
“You can be with me anyway.”
“Then there is no need for any change, my love. To me, you’re the most incredible girl in the entire universe. Human or werewolf, doesn’t matter.”
I tightened my hold on him, closing my eyes. “Is this the right time to ask you if you’d still love me if I was a worm?”
Zane chuckled. “What is that?”
“Just answer the question,” I insisted, smiling.
“Yes, Lia. I would still love you if you were a worm.”
“Wouldn’t you think I am gross?”
