-End of book 1-

Lola POV

‘Yeah, let’s bounce’ Justice chimes in as she flies off. ‘We will have to go down soon though, a white dragon in the sky will stick out like a sore thumb, and we don’t want to attract any more attention’. ‘Yeah I got it, I will land in unclaimed lands shortly, just far enough so they won’t be able to track us down’. After a good while, Justice does exactly that and lands in a small clearing before she shifts back. ‘That took a lot of energy, we need to find a place to rest’ she mutters sleepily. Although I agree, we are in the middle of nowhere and are unfamiliar with the territory. I have no clue where to find a good place to hide and, to top it off, I am in an even worse predicament than last time I was on the run. I have literally nothing on me. Last time I had a bag with clothes and supplies, now I don’t even have clothes on my body, I am stark naked in the middle of no man’s land. For someone who is a prude to begin with, I am feeling very vulnerable right now. I need to find clothes somewhere. I can’t exactly walk onto human lands naked.

I have been walking for what feels like ages now, and I am beyond exhausted. The sun is setting already, and I need to find shelter fast. I covered myself with some mud and leaves along the road somewhere in an attempt to hide my private parts, but as it is drying up the cover is failing. Badly. Suddenly, I am on high alert again as I see a figure sitting a few yards away from me, with his back towards me. The guy just seems to be sitting there and doesn’t seem to be an immediate threat, but he hasn’t spotted me yet and I’d rather avoid fights right now. I am so exhausted I can barely walk. I keep my eyes plastered on the guy while I move towards the tree line for more cover. Suddenly, he sits up straight and whips his head around. I guess I wasn’t as careful as I thought I was. When I meet his eyes I recognize who it is – it’s the rogue that helped me during my first 2 weeks on the run, Nick was it I think?

** 2 years later **

After having fled the scene in my dragon form, I shifted back to my human form as soon as I reached above unclaimed lands again, as it’s kind of hard to go unnoticed as a massive white dragon. Nor as a massive white wolf for that matter, I could see now why Liberty was always adamant on hiding, as it has put a big target on our backs, I can imagine. All I have ever wanted to do was just live my life in peace. As I was in such a hurry to leave, I had absolutely nothing on or with me. I was as vulnerable as could be. No phone, no food, no clothes, nothing. And then I ran into Nick – the rogue that risked his life for me. Apparently he had been searching for me, wanting to check if I was alright. He literally gave me the shirt off his back, and food to eat. He accompanied me to the human town I am still in today.

To throw them off my track for when they would come looking for me, I ended up in a human town far away from Red Dagger or the Royal Kingdom. Nick insisted on coming with me to ensure my safety (little did he know I have a powerful wolf and a dragon), and he ended up sticking around as well. I have never trusted anyone anymore, but I would say Nick is the only one coming close. Actually, although I hate to admit the terrifying truth, I think I actually do trust him. He risked his life for me several times and, after hearing his own story about how he came to be a rogue, I couldn’t help but break down a chunk of my walls for him. We both have jobs here now and actually live in a house together, to share the rent. My job is in accounting and Nick is a chef. We both can’t complain, we love our jobs. I learned in the past 2 years that Liberty, Justice and I can control the elements – all elements. We have practiced a lot in secret and I have gotten good at controlling my powers, whereas in the past I would become a loose cannon whenever angered. That being said though, I haven’t been livid in the past 2 years with Nick as he is such a gentle soul, so my resilience hasn’t been put to the test quite yet.
