(Alexander)
My heart raced with each step I took as I feared things backfiring. The fact that Scarlett and I were still fighting was something that I couldn’t get over.
The way she looked at me broke me, and needless to say, it also broke my own self pride in myself. Her anger, and her attitude were to things that I couldn’t get past, and eventually, everything ended up snapping on me right now.
Her eyes avoided mine and she barely spoke unless necessary. More specifically, it was like she was simply following a certain protocol, one that I knew she was taught by Nikita. Her eyes avoided mine when I spoke to her, and I didn’t know whether it was because she was actually following that protocol or she simply didn’t want to look at me after the argument; either way, I knew that I wasn’t enjoying this.
“Scarlett, can we please talk?” I asked, catching her off guard. Her eyes avoided mine and she nodded as I pulled her toward the empty section of the party. Most of the people were gathered around mom and dad who now had our baby with them, celebrating the fact that we had an heir at our pack, guaranteeing the fact that she would be the continuation of our bloodline. It was something that my father saw as important, and knowing his reasons, I respected them.
“What is going on?”
“I am sorry”
“Alexander, now is not the time for you to actually be apologizing. The two of us can talk about this when we are alone” she said, stopping me “not everything you’re going to apologize for would be ignored simply because you apologized. The two of us are going to need to sit and talk things out like a real couple because it seems like the two of us are anything but that lately”
“I know, and it is bothering me more than it is bothering you. Mostly because I know that you are trying your best and that it is my fault this time” I said, thankful that she is saying more than just two or three words to me. She sighed and wrapped her arms around me, hugging me tightly.
“I know that you’re worried that I might strangle Delilah when I see her, and as much as I want to do that, rest assured. I will not. The woman does not deserve my hands to be dirty with her blood, okay?” Scarlett said, her tone assuring. I could tell that she was trying to hide both her anger and jealousy at the consistency of mentioning Delilah’s name, but I was thankful that she, at least, tried to understand my point. I nodded, not wanting to drag the subject before cupping her cheeks and k*issing her.
Her l*ips, which I have gotten so used to k*issing, felt foreign against my own and I wasn’t sure whether it was because she was still hurt by me or she didn’t want me k*issing her. But either way, something about the connection just didn’t feel right, and regardless of what it was, I couldn’t find myself finding it.
“Do you want us to get something to drink?”
“No, thank you” she said, smiling at me as we walked back toward the crowd.
“I must say, Scarlett, I am amazed that you manage to steal Alpha Alexander’s heart” a woman, a Luna, to be more specific, said. Her eyes met my mate’s just as her mate, Alpha Damon, arrived. He looked at her and nodded at Scarlett.
“A p*leasure to finally meet you, Luna Scarlett. We have heard a few things about you, and in all honesty, I was curious to finally meet the Luna who managed to steal Alpha Alexander’s heart” he said, making Scarlett smile. “It is a p*leasure to see you, Alpha, and I must thank you for taking your time to show up to our gathering” she said politely. I smiled at my beauty and k*issed her temple, making the Alpha smirk. “She has been well educated as well. But I cannot doubt that. The women of your pack have always been known for the tough training that they usually got” Alpha Damon said, looking at his mate who looked down at her feet. She frowned, and it wasn’t until then that Scarlett realized that things were not as pure as they always seemed between the Alphas and their Lunas. If anything, a Luna was required to act in a specific way, and if not, their Alpha would simply give them a look. One look would be more than enough to frighten that Luna back into submission. It was how I dealt with Delilah as well. If she chose to deviate from being the Luna that she was supposed to, she was reminded of her limits, and whether or not she liked it, she knew that she had to follow.
It was something that I chose not to have Scarlett live through. After what she has gone through because of me, I didn’t want her living through the pain of being scared of losing something that she saw herself having. It was a different cause for me, especially when it concerned her freedom, and though I knew that I was a bit tougher on her, I knew when to stop myself as not to make her feel like she was trapped.
“Alpha Alexander, Luna Scarlett…” Delilah said from behind us, making my heart drop to my stomach. Now, I knew that she was invited. Normally all the wolf packs and their wolves were invited, and considering that the two of us never mated, she was still bound to her father. The woman couldn’t escape the man no matter how h*ard she tried, and entering the pack’s ground, Alpha Jordan, glared at my mate, clearly unhappy with the fact that his daughter was not the one that I chose despite all the fights and arguments that she had with him, defending our relationship. In all honesty, I did try my best to maintain it. I tried to keep our love alive, but one day after the other, after the lust feelings I had for her died, I just couldn’t keep going; however, it was too late to back out then, and knowing what she sacrificed, I chose to stay quiet “we have to thank you for inviting us over. In all honesty, you have no idea how happy I am to see the two of you being together”
Sarcasm dripped from her tone, and glaring at her, I had to fight back the low growl that almost escaped my c*hest as I looked at the woman whose eyes lit up upon reading my annoyance in my eyes.
She looked at Scarlett, knowing that her presence not only annoyed her, but her presence reminded her of the words that she told her a few days ago. And no matter how h*ard I was going to try proving to her that she was wrong, I knew that at this point, I wouldn’t be able to completely make her forgive or forget about them.
The woman didn’t even know the consequences of her actions, or even if she did know them, I doubted that she cared what happened at this point. In her eyes, she was here for one target, and that target was obviously Scarlett. Her target was to destroy her and our relationship, simply to prove a point. At this point, I doubted that she thought that we would be getting back together and even if she believed that we would, then she was going to be completely shocked when I didn’t bother looking at her let alone t*ouching her.
“You do not need to k*iss the f*ucking prick’s a*ss, Delilah” Alpha Jordan said from behind his daughter. His eyes met mine, and despite the party being crowded, I couldn’t help but feel the air tighten in my lungs as all the voices around us blurred. The man who had been my enemy long before I chose to date his daughter stood in front of me, and I knew that he had one target right now, and it was to destroy me. Delilah, who chose not to calculate her actions this time was not only causing a problem between me and my mate. She was now drawing the lie for our pack’s ending, and I was well aware that she was aware of it. The look in her eyes told me that she was. And the look in her father’s eyes told me that he was not going to regret anything that he was going to do “let me get a look at his mud born omega, maybe then I will try to excuse him choosing her a w*hore instead of a noble blood…”
