(Scarlett)

“Can you please help me with the zipper, Alexander? I can’t seem to reach it” I said, looking at my mate who nodded.

He walked behind me and fixed it for me, zipping my dress and staring at me through my reflection, he smiled. The two of us have been distant in the past few days, but we have managed to make a few small conversations. Mostly they would be good mornings, or goodnights, me asking him what he wanted to eat in specific or him asking me about my plans for the day. And despite him trying to get closer to me, I found myself unwilling to accept him being too close.

My walls have been built up a bit higher than even I expected them, and despite knowing that it was wrong to let her get in my head as much. I knew that her presence alone was enough to tick both me and my wolf off. That fact was something that my mate seemed to realize, and I knew that he was not liking it. In truth, I didn’t either, but her words played in my head whenever I closed my eyes, and her approaching me the way that she did was something that I was fighting h*ard to forget. But at this point, I simply saw her in every single corner of this house.

Flashback:

“Do you really think that you mean anything to him?” Delilah asked, raising an amused eyebrow at me. Mason, who was standing beside me had to fight the urge to respond to her insults. I, however, chose to face the woman for the first time instead of running away from her like I usually would have. The way she looked at me, and the way she raised an eyebrow. Her taunting, everything was just out of line, and knowing that I was now officially Alexander’s mate, I knew that I could at least put her in place. The man had marked me, and I him. That was something that SHE couldn’t do, and I knew that it was something that annoyed her more than ever, but I didn’t care.

“I am his mate, and the mother of his child…”

“You are too innocent, and naive for your own good, Scarlett. I have to admit, I understand why Alexander does like having you as his mate. The man can easily take you for a fool and you would easily fall for his words” she said, and I raised an eyebrow at her “but what can I expect from an omega. You being in the presence of the Alpha without him spitting at you should be considered a blessing to you” she taunted, and I laughed, shaking my head at her.

“You may consider me being less than you as I am not an Alpha born. I do not blame you, in terms of ranks, you are higher than I will ever be. But I will have you noting. My mate, marked ME, and not you despite the two of you living under the same roof for years. When he t*ouched me, whether or not it was to mate or to simply f*uck, he chose not to use protection, whereas with you, I am certain by now that if he wanted to give you a family or to build one with you, it would have been done by now” I said, making Mason chuckle. Now, if I ever saw hate in Delilah’s eyes, it would be now. The woman was furious, and I could tell that things will not be ending well from here; however, at this point, I did not care. She chose to want to get in this argument, and I was not going to leave without putting a line to her mockery.

I turned to walk away, and putting a hand on my lower back, Mason pushed me out of the store only for us to freeze when she said her next words.

“Your Alpha that you’re defending and are choosing to love too much for you own good wanted to kill you” she said, making me frown “he wanted me to be raising your little mutt, and I would have agreed; but it seems to me that you plans have changed. Either way, believe me, you are the last person that he ever considered wanting to be with”

“I do not think that you expect me to believe a woman like yourself” I said, raising an eyebrow as I turned to face her. My heart raced against my c*hest as I saw her confidence in her eyes. It was like she was actually challenging me, wanting to prove it, and that alone intimidated me. Her eyes were fixed on mine for a second before she nodded. “I can prove it” she said, smiling mischievously at me “but I do believe that your Alpha’s beta would be one step ahead of me in telling him that we are on our way…”

“Mason, you will not t*ouch that phone of yours” I told him, stopping her. She raised an eyebrow and smiled, her smile reaching her eyes, but this time, I could tell that I would be regretting my decision. Her confidence was one that told me that things were not going to go as I planned or believed that they would, but there was no backing out from this now. I had to trust that she was lying, and I had to put my faith in my mate “let’s put an end to your f*ucking line of lies, shall we, Delilah?”

End of Flashback.

“Do you think I need a scarf to cover my bare back?” I asked, looking at Alexander over my shoulder. He looked at me through the mirror and shook his head. “No, the dress fits just right and almost all the girls wear more exposing dresses anyway. So, no issues there” he said and I nodded. I walked past him watching as he fixed his tie as I applied my own l*ip gloss over my lipstick. He didn’t bother saying a word, clearly wanting the day to end without a problem, and to my surprise, one of the guests was in fact the one and only Delilah. Though whether or not she was going to show up was something that I didn’t know, and in all honesty, it was the last thing that I wanted to think of.

“I will go and check on Anastasia, is there anything that you need?”

“No, I will be waiting for you downstairs” he said and I nodded, watching as he walked out of the room in silence. The gap that was again created between us was one that I didn’t like. Mostly because I grew used to him being around me and grew used to being his lover rather than just a mate that shared a room with him. The two of us have grown close enough to consider ourselves one only for Delilah to come and just throw us back to point zero. And as childish as it was to let a third party break what we had together, I couldn’t find myself getting over what I heard from her no matter how h*ard I tried to do so.

I entered my daughter’s room and smiled when she looked at me with a smile on her face. She giggled and taking her hand in mine, I gently k*issed it before lifting her in my arms. She wore a pink dress and a white ribbon, tying her hair. A dress that Alexander chose for her earlier this morning.

“So, my beautiful little princess, how about we go down to see our guests, yeah? I am sure that they are all very excited to see the little princess, what do you think?” I asked as I walked out of the room, holding my daughter in my arms. Alexander, who was sitting on the couch that was beside the door, stood when he saw me coming down, and smiling, he took Anastasia from me. She laughed and put her hand on his face, making him chuckle.

“Yes, little wolf, tonight is about you” he said, smiling at our little one. He looked at me for a second before nodding “I don’t want tonight to end with an argument. If Delilah does show up, Scarlett, I do not want the two of you fighting”

“You are talking to me as if I am the one who started the initial fight…”

“I am being serious, Scarlett. There are Alphas who do not understand my methods and there are other Lunas who would judge us for such behavior. Therefore, I do not want “I know my manners, Alexander. And if you think that I would be arguing with a wolf who is simply jealous of me for being your mate. Then you are mistaking me with her. As far as I was concerned, I left you to her when you chose her over me. She is the one who is arguing with me” I said, stopping him “and if you do not want me showing up, I do not mind staying inside the house. You can tell them that I am sick or something. I am sure that they would buy whatever lie you choose to feed them at this point”

“It is already too late to cancel on things. Therefore, I do suggest that you tone it down”

“How about we get this night over with before the two of us start arguing because you literally just created an entire scene that I would never do out of nothing? Anyhow, I will choose to let that slide as I no longer have the energy to actually fight you over such matters” I said, looking him in the eye as I fought my own anger. The man was actually defending her despite all that she has done to me, and regardless of what I wanted to say to think otherwise, I knew that at this point, there was no possible way for me to do so. He still saw her as better than me, and at this point, I didn’t believe that things would be different. “Sure, let’s get this night over with…”
