(Alexander)
I watched as my mate prepared the pack for the event in silence.
She didn’t bother looking at me though I was well aware that she could sense me watching her, and that was starting to get on my nerves. Mostly because I knew that she was currently doing his to simply test me.
My beloved mate was annoyed and I understood that and had no means of being angry with her about it. What Delilah said would have annoyed anyone, and not just her. And I knew that had it been me, I wouldn’t have been as understanding as she was toward me at that very moment. Therefore, I chose to stay quiet at that moment and just let her try to digest what she heard. But f*ucking hell was it h*ard to accept the fact that my mate was actually refusing to speak to me when I was missing her as much as I was right now.
She looked at Mason, who was just approach her, wanting to let her know that the flowers arrived and simply nodded. I didn’t know whether she was upset with him or not, but I knew that Delilah had created a gap, even between them, simply because she was being a f*ucked up b*itch who was seeking nothing but trouble, and the thing was, she knew that she would be getting nothing out of it now. But knowing Delilah, she would not stop there.
I walked toward my mate and wrapped my arm around her waist, smiling when she didn’t flinch or try to avoid my t*ouch despite knowing that she actually wanted to.
“What do you think?” She asked, nodding at the decorations. Most of them were already done, and I was surprised that they brought in the flowers already considering that the gathering was still in three days; however, there was only two flower bouquets, and I was a hundred percent sure that they were not the only ones that she got for the gathering.
“I like it a lot” I said, nodding at the flowers as Mason shook his head, confirming that these were not for the gathering. Scarlett stayed quiet and didn’t bother answering about them, mostly choosing to just ignore me like she’s been doing for a while now. I sighed and pulled her toward the fountain that we had fixed earlier this morning, and shaking my head in question, I wanted to know what was going on.
“Is everything alright, Alexander?” She asked and shaking my head, she frowned and raised a questioning eyebrow, waiting for what I had to say. She didn’t even bother asking what was going on, creating yet, another gap between us. It was one that I was growing tired of if I were being honest, and I wasn’t even sure that she realized it.
“Why are you doing this, Scarlett?”
“I am not doing anything that is not expected from me, Alexander” she said, crossing her arms over her c*hest “now, please allow me to at least go and finish what I have planned before I go out”
“And where are you going?”
“Do I question you when you are going out?” She shot back at me, making me frown. I let out a low growl, and raising an eyebrow, she waited for my answer. However, for now, I had none to give, but if she thought that she would be going out simply because she was being stubborn right now and that I was going to allow it, then she was very wrong, and the two of us were going to end up having a problem about it.
“Scarlett, now is literally not the time for such arguments, and if I love and respect you, then I do not expect you to cross certain limits simply because you are angry with me” I said, glaring at her. She growled and raising an eyebrow, I returned the growl. Her wolf f*orced her to submit, against what she expected her to do. The wolf was still forbidding her from shifting, and regardless of that, my mate was choosing to be too stubborn for her own good, and that was not something that would benefit her at all.
“I am going out to get a few things for Nasia, if you want to join me, you can, but I do not expect you to just be angry about it simply because you believe that I am not going to come back” she said, making me frown in confusion. “It is you who is putting that in my head with your stupid attitude” I said, letting out the frustration that I was feeling. She laughed, her laugh somewhat mocking, and raising an eyebrow, I waited for what she had to say. However, she stayed quiet and attempted to walk past me; but this time, I did not allow it. Where I normally would have, I chose to stop her this time by wrapping my hand around her arm and pulling her back “you are playing a dangerous game, Scarlett, and believe me, it will not end well”
“I don’t really care” she said, taking me by surprise “do your best, Alexander. At this point, even if I do die, I really don’t care”
I was surprised to find that Scarlett was by the window when I entered the house later that evening.
Having left the pack’s grounds, not wanting to get into an argument with her, I thought that she would end up going out; however, I was surprised when Mason told me that she entered the house and never left.
Anastasia was on her mat, playing with her toys while two maids watched over her. I nodded at them to leave while I stood by the door, crossing my arms over my c*hest as I waited for her to acknowledge my presence. But she didn’t say a word nor did she turn around to face me. Her heart raced, and my heart ached as I watched her uncomfortable reactions. The woman who had run into my arms almost every single time I came home was now broken, again, and it was due to a f*ucked up past that I couldn’t find myself erasing no matter how h*ard I tried.
I walked up to her before she could say a word, and hugging her from behind, I knew that Anastasia was distracted and safe within the barriers of the small little floor crib that we had set for her. The baby blanket pillow which was under her would prevent her from getting hurt, therefore, that was something that I knew we didn’t need to worry about. The toys that were with her were also too big for her to attempt to swallow. I pulled my mate to my c*hest and rested my chin on her shoulder as I looked at her side ways. Her dried tears which stained her cheeks broke me, and recalling her words, I could tell that I killed something inside her. Whether it was her security, her comfort, or even the sense of wanting to be alive, I knew that something inside her was killed by me.
“I really never intended to hurt you, Scarlett” I whispered to her.
Running my finger over her stomach “and the last thing I want you to even think of is me wanting to live without you. I don’t. I can’t, and I never will be able to…”
“I have also reached to a point where I don’t even know how I was alive before you. How I managed my things or how I used to be able to breathe. And I don’t want to imagine a future without you” I said, turning her around to look at our daughter who was holding on the small fence as she looked at the two of us while standing “you two are my blessing in this world and no matter how much you think that I may be lying, I will somehow prove to you that I am not”
“Alexander, I cannot doubt the love that you have for me now. I never have, and I never will. But the fact that you wanted to do something that harsh to me is something that I cannot get out of my mind” she said, turning around to face me “the fear that I am having right now that you could one day consider doing so is breaking me inside, and the fact that you so casually planned to get rid of me is something that…”
“Scar…”
“Please, Alexander, just let me try to get over this somehow. I don’t know how I would, and I don’t know if I will ever be able to completely forget about what happened, but please give me some time to forget about what happened, because I need to at least digest it, if only a little bit” she said, and turning her around to face me, I shook my head at my mate, not wanting her to deal with this alone. Something like this shouldn’t have been something that she simply face by herself.
“Scarlett, I am here for you…”
“I am aware, and I am thankful for that. I don’t want you thinking that I would leave. I have nowhere to go without my daughter, and I don’t want her to live without her father to begin with; therefore, that is not an option that I want to take. If not for you, I don’t want to take it for her” she said, taking a deep breath “please…”
I k*issed her, stopping her from what she had to say before she could complete her sentence. And giving in for a second, she k*issed me back before pulling away and looking me in the eye “we can’t just solve this because we’re k*issing, Alex…”
“I know, but this could be a small reminder of how much you mean to me” I said, running my finger over her cheekbone “do you want to go out for a bit? Maybe leaving the pack’s grounds would help you clear your mind…?”
“I would rather I stay here, thank you” she said, stopping me “I find myself breaking every time I choose to go out; therefore, I would rather I spend my days within the pack’s grounds…”
