Filed To Story: Goddess's Design His Fated Mate (Willow & Reuben)
I just wanted to leave my past behind and start anew, so I remained silent on the matter.
However, this time, hiding from Reuben was my priority, so I sought help from Beta Ken. “It was just someone I didn’t want to see again,”
I replied casually.
Beta Ken raised his brows and simply nodded, understanding that I didn’t want to discuss it further. “Then I’ll be on my way. Best of luck at tonight’s ball. I’ll be back in the morning to pick you up,”
he remarked.
“Okay,”
I smiled as he bid us goodbye and left.
Closing the door and turning around, I found Wyatt and Lori standing there with my luggage.
“What are you two doing now?”
I questioned. Those little devils were unpredictable even to me.
“Mommy, you’re going to the ball, right? We’ll help you choose a dress!”
Lori excitedly exclaimed.
“You two want to help?”
I raised my brows in surprise.
“Yes, come on,”
Wyatt pushed my luggage inside the room while Lori took hold of my hand, leading me in.
Seated on the sofa with my laptop, I allowed Wyatt and Lori to browse through my selection of dresses while I seized the chance to review the treaty papers. Their being distracted was a rare opportunity.
Alpha Benjamin was deeply concerned about this treaty and held high expectations for me. Opening my laptop, I delved into research about the Shine Moon Pack. I assessed their weaknesses, strengths, and their affiliations with other packs. They were indeed powerful, akin to the Wade Moon Pack. I also learned that their Alpha had a notorious reputation and harbored intense animosity toward Wade Moon and its members. I took a deep breath. It was evident that things at the Alpha Ball wouldn’t be easy. Moreover, the disadvantage was that he had agreed to meet only at the ball. Almost every Alpha in the country was planning on attending this particular function. What if
My thoughts abruptly halted as a chill ran down my spine. I hastily skimmed through the papers Beta Ken had provided. I recalled that he had given me a list of attending Alphas. Ignoring the names of females, hosts, and elders, I focused on the young Alphas’ names.
I held the paper tightly as I scanned the names. Thankfully, Reuben’s name was absent. I breathed a sigh of relief and silently thanked the Goddess. It was a blessing that powerful packs often didn’t attend such balls. Knowing that in the past six years, Reuben had taken over his father’s position becoming the Alpha of the Emerald Bright Pack, the most powerful and feared wolf in the werewolf world.
“Mommy how about this dress?”
Lori’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. She brought a black dress over to me that I had never worn before. She also brought a matching purse and sandals, “Do you like it?”
“I love it. It’s beautiful,”
I smiled. At a young age, Lori possessed great knowledge of clothes, colors, and designs for various occasions. Merely by observing someone, she could gauge their personality and attitude as well. “I’ll definitely wear it tonight, thank you,”
I accepted the dress from her little hands.
“Mommy, are you sure I can’t come with you?”
Wyatt asked while perched on the edge of the bed.
“Yes, it’s a dull gathering of Alphas,”
I chuckled, lifting the dress up.
“Then mommy needs to be careful of strange men at the ball,”
Wyatt remarked. My heart warmed at his ever-protective nature.
“Strange men?”
I chuckled, hanging the dress up. “What strange man?”
“The kind of man that you met at the airport earlier and was calling your name,”
Wyatt remarked.
I froze in place for a second, quickly turning to look at him. “Some man was calling my name? Is that what you are saying?”
I couldn’t help but give him a nervous smile. I had been certain that Wyatt had left the airport when that happened.
“I heard a man calling your name when I was about to sit in Uncle Ken’s car. The man’s voice sounded obsessed and crazed,”
he explained.
Lori nodded in agreement, adding, “Yeah, mommy, you should stay away from those kinds of people. When I heard him, I felt like he would steal you away from me.”
My breath caught in my throat as I listened to them. So, Lori also heard Rueben? What they felt was only possible if
I clenched my dress at my side, realizing Wyatt and Lori had sensed a connection with Rueben. Perhaps Rueben could feel it too?
There was no way Rueben could find out about Wyatt and Lori!
Willow
Dressed in black, I left the hotel room at 9 in the evening. After putting Wyatt and Lori to bed post-dinner, I could attend to tonight’s business without worry. My children were mature and accustomed to being without me for extended periods, even days. Wyatt was a responsible older brother and took wonderful care of Lori.
The Alpha Ball was being held on the top floor of the shifter hotel where I was staying. Taking the elevator, I entered the venue. It was vibrant and lavishly decorated, filled with Alphas from various packs. They were gathered in clusters, chatting and laughing, all representing powerful packs. Being around them, I felt as if I had traveled into my past. It had been six years since I had been among so many werewolves.
A tall man in a gray suit at the entrance observed me for a few moments, as if trying to discern something. “Excuse me, Miss. May I ask which pack’s Alpha you represent?”
He was remarkably polite and respectful, bearing the air of a high- ranking warrior. Â Clutching a list of guest Alphas, he seemed responsible for vetting guests and preventing non-Alpha blood from entering, what they referred to as intruders. “Actually, I’m familiar with every attending Alpha, but I’ve never seen you before,”
he clarified with a smile.
“I am the daughter of Alpha Benjamin. Due to an urgent situation, he couldn’t attend the ball. So I am here representing him,”
I explained.
“Alpha Benjamin has a daughter?”
he frowned, visibly surprised as he flipped through the list.
“I am his adoptive daughter,”
I clarified, searching for the invitation in my purse.
“Oh it appears that he informed us about this beforehand,”
