Beside her, Nana sat cross-legged, lost in her own world, sketching in her drawing book.

Nana had already started kindergarten and had earned the role of class leader with her impressive skills and bright personality. She glanced up at her mother from time to time, resting her chin in her palm as she worked on her drawing.

After about half an hour, Nana reached over and patted Isabella’s hand.

“Mommy, look at my drawing!”

Isabella took the drawing book from her small hands.

On the crisp white page, Nana had divided the space into four sections, each bursting with color.

Carefully, Isabella studied her daughter’s artwork. The four scenes were different, yet they flowed together like a short comic strip. In the first image, a little girl stood beside an oversized baby stroller, her face lit with a wide, happy smile.

The second showed the girl running hand in hand with a little boy, their joy practically leaping off the page. The third depicted the pair walking to school together…

Recognizing the familiar outfit on the little girl, Isabella gently ran her fingers through Nana’s soft hair and spoke, her voice laced with curiosity.

“Sweetheart, I can tell this little girl is you, but who’s the boy? Can you tell Mommy?”

Nana’s eyes sparkled as she looked up. “Mommy, that’s my little brother! He lives with us. I’m going to be a good big sister, just like in the pictures!”

Isabella’s heart melted at her daughter’s pure excitement. She pulled Nana into a soft embrace.

“My baby is so wonderful. In Mommy’s eyes, you’re already the best big sister anyone could ask for. But sweetheart, what if the baby in Mommy’s belly isn’t a little brother? What if it’s a little sister? Would you still feel the same way?”

She worried that Nana had been influenced by others and had become too fixated on having a baby brother. She herself didn’t know the baby’s gender because she and Andrew had decided not to find out before the baby was born.

Nana scrunched up her tiny nose in thought. Until now, she had always assumed the baby was a little brother.

But then she remembered the girls in her kindergarten class and suddenly reconsidered. “If it’s a little sister… I don’t think I can treat her the same way I would a little brother.”

When Isabella heard that, a flicker of concern crossed her face.

The next second, Nana continued with all the seriousness of a child who had just made an important discovery. “Little brothers and little sisters aren’t the same. I have to be extra careful with little sisters so they don’t get upset and cry.”

Isabella’s heart melted instantly at those words.

The world of children was so simple, so untouched by the worries of adults. While she had been overthinking, Nana had already made up her mind in the purest way possible.

Overcome with affection, Isabella pulled her daughter close and planted a soft kiss on her cheek. “Nana, you’re an angel. Mommy loves you so much.”

“Nana loves Mommy too.”

With warmth and laughter filling their home, time moved swiftly, bringing Isabella’s due date closer.

And soon enough, in the midst of eager anticipation, Nana’s little brother, Collier Klein, was born.

Unlike Nana, who had been a quiet and well-behaved baby, Collier came into the world with a spirited energy that kept everyone on their toes. But miraculously, no matter how fussy he was, the moment Nana held him, he would settle down as if he had found his safest place.

Each time it happened, Isabella would smile in wonder and say, “This is the little brother Nana was waiting for. Collier can already feel how much his sister loves him.”

Time flew by in the blink of an eye. One day, Isabella and Andrew took Nana and Collier to Klein Manor to visit Damari.

On the vast, sun-drenched lawn, six-year-old Nana and three-year-old Collier played with boundless energy, their laughter echoing through the estate.

As the sun climbed higher, the Klein family’s butler stepped outside, his expression warm as he called out to the children. “Nana, Collier, it’s time for lunch. You can play more after you eat.”

“Okay!” Nana chirped, always mindful of good manners. She knew that when it was time to eat, she shouldn’t keep others waiting.

Turning to Collier, who was still crouched on the grass, lost in whatever adventure his little mind had conjured up, she gently stroked his hair. “Collier, the butler says it’s time for lunch. We can play more later.”

“Okay!”

Hand in hand, the two small figures made their way toward the butler, their bond undeniable.

As he watched them, the butler’s smile deepened with affection, and he led them to the dining room.

At the dining table, Damari sat at the head, his presence as strong as ever, while Andrew and Isabella sat beside him. Across from them, Nana and Collier took their seats.

Looking at his well-mannered great-grandchildren, Damari’s eyes gleamed with warmth. “Today’s dishes include many of your favorites. Make sure to eat plenty.”

“Thank you, Great-Grandpa!” Nana and Collier chorused, their voices sweet and clear.

Isabella gazed at them fondly, her heart swelling with love. But as the meal continued, she began to notice something unusual.

Nana, now in the senior class of kindergarten, had just finished a three-day group activity at school the day before. Before this activity, she had never been a picky eater. But now, she carefully picked at her plate, eating only the vegetables the nanny had served, leaving the fish, shrimp, eggs, and meat untouched.

Nana was already small for her age, and unlike Collier’s round, chubby cheeks, hers were noticeably less plump. How could she possibly get by on just vegetables without eating any meat?

Gently, Isabella asked, “Sweetheart, why aren’t you eating your meat? Why are you only eating vegetables?”

At her question, the table fell silent, and all eyes turned to Nana’s plate. Sure enough, just as Isabella had said, the little girl hadn’t taken a single bite of meat.

Damari frowned in concern. “Didn’t you love shrimp? Is something wrong with today’s shrimp?”

Damari had tasted the dishes himself and found them excellent. His brows furrowed slightly as he turned to the servant. “Go to the kitchen and check if the recipe has changed.”

He assumed that, perhaps with age, his sense of taste had dulled, and the children could detect a subtle difference in the food that he couldn’t.

But before the servant could leave, Nana quickly reached out and grabbed her hand.

“Ma’am, there’s no need to ask. The food is delicious as always, but…” She hesitated for a moment before continuing, “I heard that eating more vegetables and less meat is better for us, so I don’t want to eat too much meat.”

Nana was always quick to act on what she learned. After hearing her kindergarten teacher say this to the other kids in class, she took the advice to heart and started following it herself.

Realizing what had happened, Isabella couldn’t help but smile.

“Sweetheart, you’re right—it’s good to eat more vegetables. But remember, ‘less meat’ doesn’t mean ‘no meat at all.’ It’s all about balance.”

With patience, she explained, “Meat has important nutrients that your body needs to grow strong and healthy. A good diet includes both vegetables and meat in the right amounts. Besides, the nanny made sure your meal today follows exactly what your teacher recommended.”

Isabella spoke, tilting her chin toward Collier, whose cheeks were puffed out like a little chipmunk as he ate. “Look at Collier. He’s really enjoying his meal.”

Hearing his name, Collier perked up immediately. “Nana, look at me! I like everything. So yummy!”

As if words alone weren’t enough to prove his point, he scooped up another piece of deboned fish with his tiny spoon and stuffed it happily into his mouth.

At that moment, Collier was at his absolute cutest. His cherubic face, those big, innocent eyes, and his sheer enthusiasm for food made Nana unable to resist reaching out and gently poking his cheek with her finger.

Watching her little brother eat with such delight made her own appetite stir. Retracting her hand, Nana picked up her fork, mimicking Collier, and took bite after bite of the food left on her plate.

Nana had always been an extraordinary child, and her table manners were nothing short of impeccable. Isabella, watching from across the table, felt a sense of pride. At such a young age, Nana carried herself with an elegance that was truly pleasing to the eye.

“Nana, you’re awesome!” Collier, oblivious to how refined his sister looked while eating, only cared that she was finally finishing her food without fuss. Overcome with joy, he leaned over and planted a big kiss on her cheek. “Muah!”

Isabella saw the scene unfold and let out a small sigh, rubbing her forehead, amused. “Collier, if you’re going to kiss your sister, at least wipe your mouth first. You’re getting oil and saliva all over her face,” she said.

But if there was anyone who doted on Collier the most, it was Nana. Shaking her head quickly, she turned to Isabella and said, “It’s okay, Mom. I don’t mind. I really like Collier.”

Collier, realizing he had left a mark on his sister’s cheek, suddenly looked embarrassed. He stared at it, hesitating, as if wondering whether he should wipe it off for her. But when he heard his sister say she didn’t mind, his eyes welled up with emotion. He gazed at Nana with pure adoration, like a little puppy seeking affection. “Collier likes Nana, too.”

The look in his eyes made Nana’s heart melt. Reaching out again, she gently touched his face. “Alright, Collier, eat your food.”

“Okay!”

As the two children moved past the topic on their own, Isabella’s gaze softened. She let the moment be, simply reflecting on how rare it was to see siblings as close as Nana and Collier—never arguing, never causing trouble.

After lunch, Nana had her schoolwork to complete, while Collier, still too young for such obligations, had the freedom to play. But Collier was a ball of energy, and when Nana was focused on her homework, he had a habit of disturbing her.
