Andrew stepped inside, washing his hands before following her to the dining room.

The ambiance was perfect—flickering candlelight, the rich aroma of home-cooked food, and a bottle of red wine waiting to be uncorked.

Isabella lifted her glass, her eyes locked onto Andrew’s. “Darling, thank you for loving me and always being so patient with me. I love you.”

“I love you too, darling.”

But before taking a sip, Andrew eyed the deep crimson wine and hesitated. “This is a strong one. Should we switch to something lighter?”

Isabella followed his gaze, glancing at the bottle she had intentionally chosen.

She smiled, unwavering. “It’s fine, darling. We’re at home. Besides, it’s not like we’re drinking the whole bottle.”

Andrew chuckled, giving in without resistance. He lifted his glass and drained the wine in one smooth motion.

The wine was exquisite, and their love was undeniable. As Andrew neared the end of his meal, Isabella lifted her glass once more and seized the moment to revisit the unresolved matter from a few nights ago.

“Darling, have you thought about what you promised me last time?” She stood up, sauntering over to Andrew with quiet confidence. Andrew wasn’t drunk, but he had definitely consumed enough wine to let his usual caution slip a little.

Isabella knew this. She knew exactly when to time her request. Leaning down, she draped an arm over his shoulder, her voice as gentle as the fingers tracing along the back of his neck.

Under the combined influence of the wine and the woman he adored, Andrew finally voiced the answer he had been contemplating for days.

“Honey, I still think that…”

Andrew’s words trailed off, but Isabella caught the answer in his eyes. If it wasn’t the answer she wanted, then it was better left unspoken. She set her wine glass down, reaching out with delicate fingers to trace the line of Andrew’s throat before surrendering to a lingering kiss. The night wrapped around them, undisturbed, as she lost herself in the warmth of the man she loved.

The crisp evening air carried the scent of earth and pine, mingling with the rich aroma of red wine, a heady mix that stirred something deep within them both.

Isabella melted into Andrew’s embrace, her voice unsteady, her fingers gripping his shoulders as she finally voiced the decision she had made days ago.

“Honey, I know you’ve always hesitated about having another baby, afraid of what I might go through. But if we put all those fears aside, deep down, you’re the one who wants it most.”

She spoke softly, her voice brimming with tenderness. “I love you, and I love myself. If my safety is guaranteed, why shouldn’t we try again? Why shouldn’t we reach for what we both long for? With you beside me, I have nothing to fear.”

Andrew wasn’t the only one swayed by the effects of the wine tonight. With unwavering resolve, Isabella laid her thoughts bare, looking straight into his eyes as she spoke.

They were close—so close that Andrew could count the delicate sweep of her eyelashes, so close that he could see the flicker of hope in her gaze and hear the rapid beat of her heart.

And in that moment, he understood.

If his goal was to shield her from harm, rejecting her now might protect her physically—but what about the ache in her heart?

Isabella was right. He wanted this just as much as she did. With modern medicine and all the advancements available, maybe—just maybe—he could keep her safe while still embracing the future she envisioned.

“Honey?”

Isabella’s soft voice pulled him from his thoughts. She nudged his nose with hers.

His nose was strong and well-defined, and at that moment, it felt high, firm, and impossibly smooth beneath her touch. Without realizing it, she brushed against him again, and then once more, as if drawn in by the simple, playful gesture.

It was an innocent tease—yet, at a moment when his resolve was already wavering, it was enough to tip the scales. Like a spark to dry kindling, it ignited something undeniable between them, spreading quickly and uncontrollably.

Andrew’s breath deepened. His large hand slid around the curve of Isabella’s lower back, pulling her closer, holding her in place. His gaze darkened, filled with unspoken longing, before he lowered his head and captured her lips in a slow, deliberate kiss.

By the time morning arrived, the two of them awoke together in a guest room on the first floor. The servants had been dismissed for the weekend, leaving them in complete solitude, with no one to interrupt them.

As their eyes met, their gazes flickered over the faint traces left on each other’s skin—silent reminders of the night before.

Isabella had gotten what she wanted. Andrew, however, frowned unconsciously.

His expression turned serious as he looked at her. “Isabella, you were too reckless.” Disapproval was evident in his tone.

“I know everything you said last night was true, but risks exist no matter what. The only way to guarantee your absolute safety is to make sure this never happens at all.”

Isabella blinked her bright, expressive eyes. She had expected this reaction from him. Smiling sweetly, she reached for his hand, lacing her fingers through his. “Honey, it’s already done. It’s too late for regrets now.”

Then, giving his hand a gentle squeeze, she added with emphasis, “And besides, I won’t listen to any protests from you now. What happened last night was proof of how you really feel. So why not take a chance—for Nana, for yourself? If we’re meant to have another baby, you won’t be able to stop it, no matter what.”

Andrew didn’t respond.

Because he knew—when it came to Isabella, he was utterly powerless. If this was what she truly wanted, nothing he did could change it. And besides, it wasn’t as if it would happen right away. Surely, fate wouldn’t be so quick to decide.

At least, that was what he told himself.

Yet, just over two weeks later, when Isabella’s period was unexpectedly late, they found themselves sitting in a hospital examination room once again.

The same doctor from years ago delivered the verdict with a knowing smile. “Congratulations. You’re officially pregnant.”

On the drive back from the hospital, Isabella and Andrew sat side by side in the back seat, their moods a stark contrast.

Sensing Andrew’s quiet turmoil, Isabella reached for his hand, intertwining their fingers.

“Alright, honey, this just proves that we were meant to have this baby. So cheer up—it’s not as bad as you think.”

Andrew wasn’t the kind of man to resist reality. Even though he had struggled with worry before, the moment the test results were confirmed, he had already accepted the situation.

Realizing that Isabella was trying to comfort him, Andrew didn’t want to burden her with unnecessary worries, especially now, when she needed to focus on her pregnancy.

He placed his other hand over their intertwined fingers, his voice sincere and reassuring. “Isabella, don’t worry. I’m not pessimistic. I was just thinking about a project.”

Isabella hadn’t expected that answer. Surprised, she tilted her head and asked, “Is it something important?”

Andrew glanced at her, his expression serious, and gave a firm nod. “It’s very important. It concerns you and the baby.”

His words immediately put Isabella on edge, but when she saw him deep in thought after his brief explanation, she decided not to press further.

Once they arrived home, Andrew barely stayed before heading straight to the office, leaving Isabella to bask in the joy of the moment with Nana. After playing with her daughter for a while, Isabella took her to the playroom.

Alone in the living room, Isabella sat in quiet contemplation for a while before reaching for her phone and dialing Malachi, Andrew’s secretary.

These days, Malachi never took Isabella’s calls lightly.

The moment he saw her name on the screen, he answered promptly and respectfully. “Ms. Patton, this is Malachi.”

Isabella got straight to the point. “Malachi, I need to ask you something. Have there been any major projects recently, either for the group or its subsidiaries?”

Malachi didn’t plan to hold back. After all, Isabella held shares in Klein Group—shares that the old Mr. Klein had personally entrusted to her.

However, there were multiple significant projects in progress, and he wasn’t sure which one she was interested in.

After a moment’s thought, he relied on his intuition and decided to share details about the latest initiative Andrew had launched that very day.

“Ms. Patton, we have several important projects, but the most recent one involves all hospitals under Klein Group integrating the latest foreign advancements in pain management for childbirth. Mr. Klein has already taken steps to secure this technology.”

Even through the phone, Malachi’s professionalism carried a hint of a smile.

“Once implemented, this will not only be a milestone for the company but also a tremendous benefit for expectant mothers everywhere.”

Isabella was momentarily stunned. She had not expected the project Andrew was referring to—the one that concerned her and the baby—to be this.

A wave of emotions crashed over her, a mixture of warmth and overwhelming affection.

“Thank you, Malachi. I’ll let you get back to work.”

After ending the call, she curled up on the sofa, hugging a pillow to her chest. Her free hand instinctively rested on her stomach as she thought about everything Andrew had done for her. A soft smile graced her lips, one filled with love and gratitude.

Eight months later, on that same sofa, Isabella gently caressed her belly again.
