As she remembered what Herman had said earlier, she suddenly realized what was going on. The person that Herman had said was worth it along – was her!

It was her and not Flossie!

“What? Are you shocked?” Flossie sneered as her voice got colder. “Quenlyn, if you truly cared about Herman, I wouldn’t have appeared here today. Too bad you don’t.”

“After the way that you’ve treated your abusive father, don’t you have any awareness of your own security? If Herman wasn’t following you and trying to protect you, you would probably be a corpse right now. So, how intimate could your relationship be? To be honest, I’m not convinced at all by the two of you. You are simply the same as me in the past. You don’t care about him at all…” Flossie said to Quenlyn as she pointed at Herman. She then turned to look at Herman and said, “I can’t see how she is worth anything…”

Quenlyn didn’t know what to say. Although Flossie was cruel, her every word drew blood.

“Are you admitting to it? You and I are the same, neither of us have treated this man well.”

“That’s enough…” Herman yelled in seriousness.

“I know you don’t want to see me,” Flossie suddenly became emotional, “But, Herman, you need to be fair. If my competition is an ungrateful brat, then why won’t you choose to be with me instead? At least, I now understand you…”

At this moment, Herman decided to maintain his silence. After quite some time, he finally mumbled, “Everything I’ve done is of my own freewill.”

“Sometimes, I feel you are quite pitiful. Herman, you really have no luck at finding someone that loves you the way that you love them.” After speaking, Flossie glared at Quenlyn, “I truly hope that you become the next me.” She then turned and left, leaving Herman and Quenlyn all alone in an awkward silence.

Quenlyn twisted her body towards Herman and asked, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

“There wasn’t much to tell you,” Herman replied with a smile. “I just so happened to see your father following you that day and I knew you wouldn’t have the strength to go against him.”

“Then why did you force yourself to go buy me food when you were injured?” Quenlyn continued to ask. “Was it just because I said that I wanted to eat it? Herman, are you crazy?”

“It’s not as serious as you think,” Herman replied in seriousness. “I can’t change this compassionate habit of mine.”

Quenlyn stared at Herman without saying another word. After staring at each other for a while, Quenlyn ran out of the room. When she returned, her eyes were red. It was obvious she had been crying.

Herman smiled helplessly, “Under those circumstances, anyone would have helped out their friend. It’s really not much…”

Before Herman finished speaking, Quenlyn suddenly pounced forward, wr*pped her arm around his waist and placed her head against his ch*st, “I don’t care anymore. I’ve decided to repay you by giving myself to you.”

After hearing these words, Herman let out a laugh, “Even if you are willing to give yourself to me, it still depends if I want you or not. I am, after all, a highly eligible bachelor. Plus, Quenlyn, I honestly did this out of my own freewill. You don’t need to do this.”

Quenlyn seemed to have predicted this result as she hugged him tighter, “You are the first and only person that has ever been willing to get hurt for me.”

“It’s nothing!”

Nothing!

Quenlyn suddenly remembered, “Show me your wound.”

“When you heard that I got hurt because of Flossie, you never asked to see my wound. What a big difference!” Herman reached out his hands to stop Quenlyn.

Quenlyn insisted on seeing it, so there was nothing that Herman could do. In the end, he removed his shirt to reveal his bandaged stomach.

As Quenlyn looked at the wound, it practically felt like she had been wounded instead as her heart ached.

Herman had got hurt because of her!

It was only right for her to take responsibility for the scar that would be left on his body. It was like a logo or stamp on his body that belonged to her.

So, Quenlyn promised to herself that she would never let Herman get hurt because of her ever again.

“What’s with the exp**ssion on your face? I don’t need you to repay me with an extreme sacrifice.”

Quenlyn quietly helped Herman put his clothes back on before she stood up straight and asked, “Where’s Conrad?”

“He escaped!” Herman replied.

“I’m going to kill him if I find him!” Quenlyn said as she gritted her teeth. “Get some rest.”

“Where are you going?” Herman asked as he held her back.

“I’m going to go catch the culprit,” Quenlyn said before she left the room.

Herman took a deep breath and shook his head helplessly as he pushed himself out of bed. He was injured. Couldn’t she just let him recover in peace?

When Quenlyn said she was going to catch the culprit, she was relying on the fact that she was the chairwoman of Xylander Corps and that Conrad had a lot minions remaining in the company. Perhaps, through them, she would be able to find some clues.

Of course, she wasn’t stupid. She couldn’t directly ask if anyone had seen him. So, she instructed her secretary to install a camera in the meeting room and call the higher-ups and shareholders in for an urgent meeting.

It was simple, she was going to tell the shareholders that the Xylander Household hadn’t actually been changed to her name and she had merely said it out of anger and that she wanted to find her father and reconcile with him by handing the house back to him. She was going to sit back and observe their reactions.

Quenlyn may not be able to control her emotions sometimes. But, it didn’t mean that there was a problem with her intelligence!

Now that she had staked claim on Herman, she was going to find the jerk and seek revenge on him.

Herman was once again on the move even though he was injured. As he arrived at the reception desk of Xylander Corps, the receptionists were shocked.

“I’m looking for Chairwoman Xylander, has she returned?”

“Chairwoman Xylander is currently in a meeting,” one of the receptionists said as she pointed to the elevator. “Mr. Miller, why don’t you wait here? I’ll make a phone call and check for you.”

“No need, I’ll go straight up to her office and wait for her…”

“That…”

“With the relationship that I have with her, what is there for you to worry about?” Herman asked in a gentle and patient tone.

The receptionists froze for a moment as if they were in an internal struggle with themselves, before they nodded their heads, “In that case, Mr. Miller, this way please…”

Herman was worried that Quenlyn would act recklessly. But to his surprise, as he stepped into her office, he found her discussing the incident with the police.

Although Kaleidoscope had already made arrangements in secret, Quenlyn still went ahead and filed an official report.

“Are you crazy? You’re hurt!” As soon as Quenlyn saw Herman, she immediately ran over and helped him sit down on the sofa.

“I was worried that after you found Conrad, you would break out into World War III.”

“Can’t you see that I’ve asked the police for help?” Quenlyn glared at Herman before she called for her secretary. “I’ll get my secretary to drive you back to the hospital.”

“I’m fine. Even when I’m at the hospital, all I do is lie there. As long as I don’t make any reckless movements, I’ll be fine. You guys go ahead and continue.”

Herman had no intention of leaving. After all, the design of Quenlyn’s office was comfortable and grand; it was better than any hospital.

Quenlyn couldn’t do anything about him as she let out a sigh and instructed her secretary to take care of him. She then returned to the police.

“Conrad and my grandfather are on bad terms, so there is no way that he’d turn to him for help. As for his closest friends, I’ve already written down their names for you. Just a moment ago, I held an urgent meeting and released some false information. Conrad is going to think that the Xylander Household is still under his name, so he will definitely ask someone to help him confirm it. I’m assuming he will contact a staff member from Xylander Corps. As the meeting ended, I noticed these few people were on their phones. I suspect that one of them were notifying him about what had happened.”

“Send some men to watch over these few people. I’m sure you will discover something.”

When dealing with serious business, Quenlyn actually had the aura of a domineering CEO and she did things quickly and efficiently.

“Thank you Miss Xylander for your cooperation. You’ve helped us a lot,” the police said thankfully.

“Now that the serious stuff is out of the way, let’s talk personal. Why did you guys hide such a big incident from me, the daughter of Conrad? Even though we are on bad terms, I am still the person that understands him the most. Didn’t you guys ever think of asking me for help?”

As they took on the blame, the police subconsciously looked towards Herman.

“We were merely doing what was asked of us…Who would have thought that Miss Xylander is such a heroine,” the police laughed. “OK, let’s end things here. We will stay in touch.”

After speaking, the police left the office. Quenlyn then turned to Herman and crossed her arms as she looked at him, “In your eyes, am I so weak that I can only ever be the victim?”

“Well…you didn’t fight back against Turquoise in the past…”

“But, it doesn’t mean that I couldn’t,” Quenlyn r*bbed her neck awkwardly after being cut by Herman’s straightforwardness. “Let’s go. I’ll take you back to the hospital. Can’t you just stay still?”
