Filed To Story: Goddess's Design His Fated Mate (Willow & Reuben)
I whispered, nipping the corner of her lips. “Can’t you trust me this once?”
Willow
“I love you Reuben,”
Ella confessed, stabbing a sword right through my entire being.
It was a living nightmare to witness Reuben and Ella kissing first hand. Her body flattened against his, lips pressed firmly against his. All of my strength, sanity, and emotional control immediately abandoned me in that instant causing the tray to fall from my hand, leaving me miserably smothered. Unable to bear seeing them together, I fled in the direction of my room.
“WILLOW!”
Reuben yelled, chasing after me.
I put my hand over my mouth to stifle any noises that might escape, my breathing uneven, and my head was spinning, unable to forget what I had seen. They were engaged, soon to be married. Kissing and touching was expected, but a sense of disgust had risen in my very being. Reuben’s lips they were the same lips that he had pressed against mine countless times in the past when we had been together then once again over the past two days. I was the only one that had a claim over them all this time but now they had been touched by another woman.
“WILLOW!”
When I did not stop, Reuben chased me upstairs. Not wanting to see his face, I just ran inside my room wanting to lock myself in. Before I had a chance to do it, Reuben pushed the door hard, forcing it open.
“Why are you running?”
he charged at me growling furiously, triggering my flight response. “Don’t do that with me, Willow!”
He grabbed my arm.
“Get out!”
I screamed, pushing him away before he could get any closer to me.
I did not want him to see how broken my heart was. I felt betrayed once again, even though I knew that it was wrong for me to feel this way. When I discovered the information about Ella being Reuben’s fiancee and their impending wedding, I had prepared for worse when moving into the packhouse with Reuben. I had turned my heart to stone so that unnecessary feelings would not get in the way as this journey was supposed to end at the sacred cave and rejection. However, witnessing that kiss between the two of them was more than enough to steal all the strength that I had managed to accumulate over the past six years.
“Listen to me,”
he begged, grabbing me tightly by the arms.
“Let go!!”
I screamed, struggling in his grasp.
“It is not what you think!”
Reuben’s voice rose as he pulled me closer to his chest. He looked into my eyes with his wolf’s eyes and tried to clear up the matter, “Whatever you saw was not true. I did not know Ella was going to kiss me. I also did not kiss her back. There is nothing between us ”
“She loves you!”
I cut him off, tears threatened to spill over my lashes. I clutched at his chest, dug my nails in and whispered, “Ella loves you
He paused, staring at me as our emotions, specifically my pain entangled. He loosened his grip on my arms, only to sink a hand into my hair, and pull me closer to himself. “So what if she loves me?”
he asked in a very deep voice.
My eyes widened at his words. “How could you take Ella’s confession so lightly? She even kissed you ”
I choked on my words, unable to say more. He he brushed that kiss aside like it was a normal thing. Or could it be that it was not the first time the two of them had after all they had been together for six years. The way Ella had confessed to him with a kiss it did not seem like it was her first time doing something like that. Another blow was delivered to my wounded heart, I was unable to hold back my tears any longer.
“Willow ”
Reuben ran his thumb under my eye where my tears flowed freely. “Does it really matter who loves me when you are the only woman that I have ever loved?”
he whispered, looking deep into my eyes as if he were reading my mind. “Does it really matter, hm?”
More tears rolled down my cheeks at my confession, “What do you mean?”
my voice shook.
“Nothing else matters when we love each other, right?”
He lifted my chin and kissed my tears away. “Reuben has always loved Willow and will continue to only love her until his dying breath,”
he whispered, wrapping me in his arms. “Can’t you trust me this once?”
I closed my eyes, the tears continuing to escape as I listened to his frantic heartbeat, Trust that was something that I had done all my life. That was something I had put completely into only my soulmate until that one word turned into a form of abuse.
“I can’t forget ”
my voice was barely above a whisper. “I can’t forget what I saw ”
Reuben pulled away from me a little to look at me, “I can’t forget you and Ella ”
I could not bring the word kissing to my lips.
“So that’s your answer?”
With our gazes locked, I watched Reuben’s heartbreak the same as mine. The only difference was I could shade tears while he he was drowning in them yet did not shed a single one. The last two days of our being together had been a dream that was coming to an end in this way.
“Reuben,”
Oran’s voice broke into the room as he stopped in the doorway at the sight of Reuben and I. He read the room right away, understanding that this was not a pleasant situation and said in a lowered tone, “We have to leave for the Alpha meeting right now,”
before he immediately turned to leave.
Reuben never broke eye contact with me the entire time. Once Oran left he loosened his grip on my hair and body then took a step back, his gaze fixed on the tears still rolling down my cheeks unchecked. A pregnant silence fell between us, the only sound our heartbeats echoing in the room as he stared at me for a couple more seconds with dim green eyes before he turned to follow Oran.
Watching his back vanish in silence left my heart cold and lonely. My legs could not support me anymore and I sank to the floor. The sound of Reuben’s car driving away from the front yard was the last thing that my ears registered. Sitting alone in my room, I just closed my eyes and sobbed.
Blue Heavens Pack (the Alpha meeting)
“What the fuck!”
The tension in the conference room surged as an Alpha’s booming voice reverberated off the walls. Other Alphas, their faces contorted in frustration, exchanged worried glances.
“You think that I traveled all this way just to listen to some absurd theory about magic and spells being behind these attacks?”
the Alpha continued, his eyes blazing with intensity. His words hung heavily in the charged atmosphere, challenging anyone to dismiss his concerns.
A rival Alpha, equally incensed, shot back, “You’re always going against the tide! Three entire packs have been systematically wiped out, consumed by flames in a single night. If dark magic it’s not at play, then what the hell is it? Explain that!”
Tension crackled in the room as the debate intensified. “I agree!”
One Alpha, exasperated by the notion of magic, lashed out sarcastically, “If it is not magic then did the entire pack just decide to bury themselves or sprout wings overnight?”
