But Elton didn’t take the same approach with Andrew as he had with Alvina. He didn’t send him to his death.

Instead, he targeted Andrew’s identity as the heir to the Klein family.

At first, Elton tried to turn the entire military region against Andrew. But instead of driving him out, the move only bolstered Andrew’s reputation within the ranks.

Eventually, due to a series of events, Andrew left the military region.

Elton thought his plans had succeeded, but it wasn’t until later that he realized the truth—his so-called victory had only driven Andrew into the shadows.

He had once thought that being promoted to Lieutenant General, gaining Denby’s favor, and securing control over all aspects of the military region would give him the power Denby held. He believed that when Denby stepped down, the position would naturally be his. However, when the Perkins family fell, Elton made a disturbing discovery—Denby was behind it all.

Denby commanded a force Elton had never heard of.

This force was as crucial as the military affairs Elton controlled.

And Andrew, already firmly in control of the Klein family, was now vying for this very same force. Elton found himself caught in a competition he never expected.

As he clenched the hilt of the machete, his knuckles turning white, he drew it from its sheath.

The blade gleamed coldly, reflecting the light in the room and casting a chilling glow in Elton’s eyes.

His gaze hardened as he stared at the machete.

It was only now that he realized his earlier soft approaches had been in vain. Had he been more decisive with Andrew back then, he wouldn’t be facing this bitter hatred today.

This time, he promised himself, there would be no more mercy for his rivals.

Andrew and Alvina were both brilliant—powerful and intelligent—but their hearts were too pure.

Their weakness lay in the ones they loved.

“Isabella…”

Elton muttered the name, the word dripping with a dark resolve. With a series of fluid, calculated moves, he spun the gleaming machete in the air before smoothly sheathing it once again.

At the Patton family’s hospital, Isabella, clad in a white coat and mask, was examining the injuries of the veterans Andrew had brought in. These men, seasoned by countless battles, bore scars that could never fully heal.

Even after bullet fragments had been removed and the flesh healed, the wounds would flare up in the rain or after exertion, leaving them in persistent pain. The only relief they could find was through painkillers.

However, as they relied on painkillers more and more, their effectiveness began to wane, and eventually, they were left with no choice but to forgo them entirely, forced to endure the relentless pain on their own.

These injuries were just the slightest of troubles among the group. As for the more complex complications, Isabella could only carefully observe and document them one by one.

Though Isabella had asked Andrew to bring as many people as he could when requesting his help, he, knowing how much she already sacrificed to aid others, was reluctant to add to her burden. So, on the first day, he brought only ten people.

These ten were handpicked by Andrew, working closely with the doctors. Each one carried their own severe injuries.

It took Isabella the entire morning to examine and record their conditions, even with Andrew doing everything in his power to ease her workload every step of the way.

In the afternoon, Isabella organized a treatment schedule for the group, agreeing to begin their care the following day.

For ease of treatment, she arranged for all ten to stay in hospital rooms. These men, worn down by their long battles with pain, were deeply grateful. They had suffered for so long, and now there was a chance for healing, all thanks to Andrew and Isabella.

They saluted them with shaky arms, their military training guiding the gesture.

“Thank you…” they murmured, their voices thick with gratitude.

As Isabella looked at the elderly faces before her, some teary-eyed and graying, her heart twisted. She couldn’t help but feel deeply moved and sorrowful for their struggles.

“Don’t worry,” she reassured them gently.

“I will heal you. Now go back and rest; it’ll help with your treatment.”

“Okay, we’ll rest…”

They nodded, obedient to her every word as they returned to their wards.

But even as they left, Isabella’s work was far from over. She still had to prepare all the tools for the next day’s treatments and finalize the care plans.

Andrew, ever the protector, stood behind her, unable to watch her push herself further.

He placed his hands gently on her shoulders, guiding her to sit down.

“Honey, come with me.”

His strong fingers worked on the tendons of her shoulders, applying just the right pressure, his touch easing her fatigue.

“Tomorrow’s treatment, you’ll need to do it yourself. I can’t find anyone to take your place for that. But for everything else—like prepping the tools—listen to me. You give the instructions, and let others handle it, okay?”

Treating Denby was a process that would take time, and healing the retired veterans was not something that could be accomplished in just a day or two.

Isabella took a moment to think, realizing that conserving her energy for the vital tasks ahead was wise.

She nodded in agreement.

“I’ll listen to you, darling. I’ll let others help. Thank you for thinking of me.”

She placed her hand on Andrew’s, feeling a rush of warmth and resolve. With his support behind her, she was more determined than ever to heal Denby’s wounds.

The next day, Isabella prepared herself, drove to the hospital, and slipped into a focused state as she suited up for the day.

During the treatments, she invited Andrew’s medical team and the hospital’s doctors to observe the process.

The patients all shared similar injuries, and when she treated one, the observing team could learn from all. This way, Isabella wouldn’t have to repeat herself, and she could focus her energy on other injuries and innovative treatments. It would ultimately help more patients with similar conditions escape their tormenting pain sooner.

Her approach not only helped the patients but also inspired the doctors watching her. The whole process became a learning opportunity for the doctors, a way to multiply the benefits for all those suffering from similar afflictions. Her selflessness, her ability to think ahead, and her dedication to ensuring that her work reached as many as possible moved everyone deeply.

The doctors couldn’t help but admire her and doubled their efforts to learn as much as they could.

While Isabella worked tirelessly, Andrew brought his laptop and files, keeping one eye on her while managing his own responsibilities. From time to time, he would look up, his gaze landing on Isabella’s focused face through the glass.

Every time he saw her, all the exhaustion of the day melted away, leaving only a deep admiration and a desire to help her succeed. He wanted nothing more than to pamper her and support her in following her heart’s desire.

Andrew pulled his gaze away and returned to his work.

Time seemed to slip by unnoticed. Two hours later, Isabella paused for a break, and Andrew was right there, ready with refreshments to restore her energy.

“Thank you, darling.”

She sipped on a glass of refreshing juice and nibbled on a cookie.

The cookie was sweet, fragrant, and crisp. Isabella found it delicious and offered one to Andrew, who smiled, took it, and ate it with a contented expression.

When her break ended, Andrew took the trays away. Just as he was about to return them, his phone rang.

When he saw the special phone number, Andrew’s face shifted, his demeanor changing.

He stepped away from the group to answer the call.

“What’s up?”

“Mr. Klein, we’ve come across someone looking into Miss Patton…”

At these words, Andrew’s brow furrowed.

“Do you know who it is?”

“Their methods are pretty discreet. I couldn’t track them down. But…” The person on the other end of the line hesitated for a beat before adding, “Their investigative style has got a military vibe to it.”
