(Scarlett)

Alexander didn’t bother answering what I said, and smiling, I continued forward, walking toward the next store as if the two of us haven’t spoken.

The thing was, and that was something that not only hurt me, but killed something in me, was that my mate was unsure of how he felt about our relationship.

Yes, he was in love with me, and I knew that his wolf was more than happy that the two of us have finally mated. But Alexander himself was unsure of what he felt towards me, and that was something that would have broken any female, and not just me.

“Scarlett…”

“Do you want us to stop and eat anything?” I asked, stopping him. I did not want him speaking about the subject any longer than he should, and in all honesty, I was sick and tired of the number of fights the two of us kept having. I knew my patience and capabilities, but what he did not understand was that I had my limits, and they were ones that I crossed a very long time ago for his sake. And I didn’t know whether or not he understood that, but I didn’t really care. As long as I knew that I was around my daughter who was happy and safe, what more could I ask for, right?

Alexander didn’t answer, and taking that as a silent no, I entered a store that had a black baby stroller. I smiled at the sight of it. I never really got to choose my baby’s stroller. I don’t even think that I got to choose anything aside from what she got to wear from the wardrobe that Alexander already bought for her. In theory, I really had no word over anything that my daughter had.

“Do you like it?” Alexander asked, and crossing my arms over my c*hest, I nodded. The stroller was bigger than the one that she had and it could be turned into a baby bed, as well as a car seat. A three in one kind of deal. Plus, the number of belts that it had would ensure that our little princess didn’t try anything funny like she’s been doing for the past half an hour.

Alexander nodded at the salesman who rushed toward us. He didn’t even bother asking about the price as he nodded at the man to get it.

I frowned when I saw that his eyes avoided mine, and his playful demeanor seemed to have disappeared, being replaced by what looked like guilt. Something that I did not like seeing in him. “Alexander, can I ask what is bothering you right now?”

“I believe that you are not the only one who wants to close topics, right?”

“You are not going to start an argument over nothing, Alex” I said, stopping him “the two of us talked, opened up, and the topic closed there. That is it, you do not need to create a fuss about it”

“I cannot promise you that I won’t do something…”

“No one is f*orcing you, okay?” I said, stopping him “not a single soul is f*orcing you and it won’t mean that I would be loving you any less. Yes, the gap between us would be there, but it won’t be your fault. It is mine, okay? I cannot seem to find myself completely healing or forgetting what I went through. I cannot seem to forget the fact that the two of us…”

“Sir…”

“What?” Alexander and I said at the same time, stopping the salesman who jumped.

“My apologies, but this is the stroller that you asked for” he said, and nodding, Alexander walked to pay the man as I stood by the door, waiting for him. My heart ached as it raced, and turning to face me, Alexander nodded at me to walk out.

“You know, I seem to realize with every time we go out why I don’t take you out as much”

“So, now it is my fault?” I asked, laughing at his words “I get hurt…”

“You know, Scarlett…” Alexander said, stopping me “every single wolf in that pack went through the same training that you went through. They grew up in it. Other Lunas who entered the pack out of different packs, went to the same quarters to train, neither one of them is making such a big deal about it. I don’t know whether it is you being spoiled, or me making a wrong choice, but I know that…”

“That what?” I asked, noticing that he stopped himself before he finished his sentence.

“Let’s go home, Scarlett” he said, not bothering to respond to my question. My c*hest ached and I couldn’t help but find myself drowning in a pile of insecurities; however, f*orcing myself to breathe and nod, I chose to stay quiet and not dwell on the subject.

But I knew one thing.

The two of us were going to end up killing one another if we went on like this.

It was only a matter of time.

And that was not something that I wanted my little girl to see…

The rest of the night was quiet, like completely quiet.

Alexander was in his office since we entered the house, and I was in the bedroom with my daughter who was fast asleep.

My c*hest ached as I waited for him to show up. But checking the time and noticing that it was a while past eleven, I knew that he might have been waiting for me to sleep before he showed up to at least change his clothes. And that was something that I did not want to accept.

Therefore, choosing to end this conflict once and for all, I got up from the edge of the bed and opened the door, my heart dropping to my stomach when I noticed that he was opening the door.

His eyes met mine and he frowned in confusion, shaking his head in question “where are you going?”

“To your office” I said, choosing to be honest “it is getting late and I figured to call you for bed”

“You can get some sleep if you want, no need to wait for me” he said, making my c*hest ache. “Alexander, if the two of us are not going to solve things once and for all, what good would our relationship be doing to us, our daughter, or…?”

“I am trying, Scarlett. I really am” he said, making me frown when he raised his voice, fearing that Nasia would wake up. I sighed and pushed him out of the room, knowing that no one would be by the door right now.

“Trying what, Alexander? The two of us seem to end conversations and arguments without solving anything. We treat one another like lovers for one minute and the next, it is like we are sworn enemies. What the hell are you trying to prove to yourself, me, or…?”

“I am trying to get you to fall in love with me”

“You are blind enough not to see that I have been in love with you since we were children” I said, shaking my head at him. His eyes studied my expression and shaking my head, I took his right hand in mine and placed it on my c*hest, right where my heart was beating.

He frowned in confusion, trying to understand what I was doing, and keeping my eyes on his, I tried getting him to understand by my actions. I tried being that female that did not give direct answers like Nikita told me to do, but I just couldn’t with him. He did not seem to see through what I was talking about.

“A heart that is willing to forgive and forget the pain that it has lived through is a heart that beats for its lover” I said, looking him in the eye “my heart has been beating for you for as long as I could remember. I was fifteen when I first realized my love for you, but you never saw it in my eyes, Alexander.

Maybe you did but you chose to ignore it, or maybe you genuinely didn’t, either way, my love was always pure and true for you. There came nights where I would wonder why you didn’t choose me, and there were nights where I blamed myself for so many things, and one of them was you being miserable with a woman that I knew you weren’t happy with.

But I could never say anything about it, why? Because I knew that I would have been judged for it. I knew that your family would not appreciate it, and therefore, I knew my limits and chose to stay quiet, but never think for a second that my feelings for you were not pure or true, because they f*ucking were and are”

“Maybe you can’t promise me something that you can’t do, but that is exactly my point. If you can’t promise me that you won’t repeat everything that I’ve been through again, how can I promise you that I could forgive and forget what I have lived through?” I asked, letting his hand go “I don’t want us to keep fighting. I really don’t. But my love, I want you to understand that no matter how much I love you, I can’t forget something that I lived through, and I am not just talking about the training”

“You said that every Luna in the pack went through it, I understand that…” I said, looking down at my feet “but not all Lunas were tricked into thinking that they were going on a date before being sent. Not every Luna had a baby who was less than six months”

I stood on my toes and k*issed his cheek, letting my l*ips linger there for a second before pulling away “before judging me the way that you are, at least, for once, try to understand me. Only then would the two of us be able to understand one another properly as a couple”

I took a step back and opened the bedroom’s door, nodding at him “now, if you are ready to go inside and get ready for bed, without waking Anastasia, let’s go. If there is anything that you want us discussing, let’s do it now. I want us to close this constant feud and conflict, once and for all, Alexander…”
