Jared leaned in cautiously, lowering his voice.

“Why is Lilian here? Boss, does she know you’re J?”

Isabella frowned, a hint of confusion in her eyes.

“I’m not sure. Let’s see what she wants.”

Jared stepped forward, his posture defensive.

“Whether we’re a couple or not, what’s it to you?”

Lilian, noticing how Jared instinctively moved in front of Isabella, couldn’t contain her irritation, her possessiveness flaring. Originally, she had planned to pretend to be cordial for a while, but with an obvious rival now before her, Lilian’s patience snapped.

Her smile shifted into something darker as she faced Jared.

“Okay, whether you’re a couple or not really isn’t my business, because starting today, you’ll be my business.”

Lilian strutted up to Jared, barely sparing Isabella a glance. Her gaze, intense and bold, fixated on Jared.

“You’re even more handsome than in pictures.”

Jared recoiled, disgusted by Lilian’s words and the way she sized him up, an uncomfortable shiver crawling down his spine. He quickly stepped back, his voice dripping with wariness.

“Lilian, are you out of your mind?”

Lilian raised an eyebrow, unbothered by his retreat, her focus only on what she wanted.

“Hmm? You know me?”

Jared’s face twisted into a frown, a mixture of confusion and distaste in his expression.

But Lilian was utterly pleased with herself.

“Since you know me, that makes things easier. Jared, I have taken a liking to you. Starting today, I’m going to pursue you, and you can only be with me.”

“Pfft. Cough, cough, cough…” Isabella, who had been quietly observing as a background character, couldn’t help herself. She had expected Lilian to be after her, but no—Lilian had come all this way just to stake a claim on Jared, declaring she had “taken a liking to him.” The irony of it all made Isabella choke on her laughter.

The coughs and suppressed laughter snapped Jared out of his daze, and he turned to look at Lilian, who was now glaring at Isabella.

“What’s so funny? Instead of laughing, you should learn some feminine virtues. You have a fianc?, yet you’re trying to seduce another man. Isabella, I don’t care what you do with other men in the future, but don’t even think about Jared!”

Her words were crude, and Jared’s gaze shifted from Lilian to one of distress and resentment.

Isabella, dropping her hand from her mouth, stepped forward to stand beside Jared, meeting Lilian’s sharp eyes with a look of equal intensity.

“Miss Perkins, I’m curious—are you stuck in the past with outdated beliefs? Feminine virtues? Do you even have those yourself? In this modern society, having normal interactions with the opposite sex doesn’t make someone a seductress. It’s clear you’re seeing the world through your own distorted lens. But I’m sorry—since I’m a good friend of Jared’s, I’ll definitely step in when a random suitor ignores his wishes and declares she’s going to pursue him!”

Isabella’s words nearly brought Jared to tears. This was the kind of protection he had only dreamed of. He had been genuinely frightened by Lilian’s advances.

Jared spoke up, his voice firm.

“That’s right! Lilian, I don’t even know you, and this is the first time we’ve met. I don’t like you at all. Don’t talk about pursuing me. Just leave!”

No one had ever dared speak to Lilian like that before. Her eyes narrowed as a surge of anger rose within her, but the moment she saw Jared’s face, her fury simmered down.

Jared was different. He had an air of refined handsomeness, a calmness that set him apart from the men she had dealt with in the past.

After speaking with him, Lilian couldn’t help but feel more drawn to him. He was the type of man she wanted to claim as her own.

Her gaze flicked between Isabella and Jared, before finally resting on Isabella.

“You look gentle and delicate, but I didn’t expect you to be so sharp-tongued. For Jared’s sake, I won’t argue with you. But if you want to keep your relationship with your fianc?, you’d better know what you should and shouldn’t do!”

With a final smirk, Lilian turned her attention back to Jared.

“Pleasure meeting you, Mr. Cooper. Don’t mind this little unpleasantness. This gift is for you. See you next time.”

Lilian finished speaking, left a gift box behind, and walked away with her entourage.

Isabella and Jared stood there, their conversation already interrupted by Lilian’s arrival. Jared took a deep breath to steady himself and muttered, “Don’t worry about what kind of madness Lilian is caught up in. It’s a false alarm. She doesn’t know you’re J.”

Isabella, however, eyed the gift box with curiosity and asked, “What are you going to do with this?”

Jared didn’t hesitate.

“Just throw it away!”

After parting ways with Jared, Isabella headed toward the parking lot. As she passed a blind spot in the surveillance cameras, she suddenly felt someone rush up behind her. She quickly tilted her head and spun her body, just as the wind brushed against her ear. Before the attacker could react, Isabella’s leg lashed out, sweeping him off balance.

He staggered forward several paces, his eyes wide with shock.

“You know how to fight?”

Before Isabella could respond, four more figures appeared, surrounding her from all directions. They were tall, muscular men clad in black T-shirts and shorts, their bulging muscles a silent threat. Without a word, they lunged toward her.

The sounds of a fierce struggle echoed across the parking lot, dust swirling in the air.

As she fought off the group, Isabella’s mind raced, wondering if she had upset anyone recently. The only person who came to mind was Lilian, especially after their earlier encounter.

Isabella’s eyes narrowed, her grip tightening as she threw one of the men in front of her, demanding, “Did Lilian send you?”

The men exchanged glances, their wounds from the scuffle telling them all they needed to know about Isabella’s strength. Realizing she’d already figured it out, they saw no need to continue the fight.

One man, clutching his chest, managed to speak.

“Now that you’ve figured it out, there’s no harm in telling you. Stay away from our boss’s future husband, or the next group after you won’t be us.” With a signal from him, the others began to retreat with him.

Though their fighting skills were lacking, their retreat was swift, and within moments, they vanished from sight.

Did Lilian truly have her eyes on Jared? Isabella frowned, deep in thought.

When she arrived home, the door to the villa stood wide open. She was surprised to find Andrew home at this hour, a smile on her face as she stepped inside.

There, on the sofa, sat the person she had been yearning to see. She crept over softly, covering Andrew’s eyes with her hands, and with a playful grin, asked, “Guess who I am?”

“Baby.” Andrew chuckled, his deep voice vibrating through her. He gently removed her hands, but then his gaze darkened, his tone shifting.

“What happened to you?”

Isabella immediately noticed the change in Andrew’s demeanor. Following his gaze, she saw the bruise on the back of her hand and realized her cufflink had gone missing, likely lost during the fight. Since Andrew didn’t know about her earlier meeting with Jared, Isabella filled him in, telling him everything about Lilian and the ambush.

Seeing the concern still etched on Andrew’s face, Isabella cupped his face with both hands, offering a reassuring smile.

“It’s nothing, really. It looks worse than it feels. You don’t know how badly I handled those five guys!”

She said this to calm Andrew, but unexpectedly, Andrew took her wrist in his hand, pressing his fingertip gently against the bruise. Isabella’s hands had become soft and delicate from lack of recent training. How could fighting five burly men not hurt?

Andrew’s sudden movement made her instinctively recoil a little. This didn’t go unnoticed by Andrew. He looked up, his dark eyes fixated on Isabella, and asked, “It doesn’t hurt?”

She blinked rapidly, trying to brush it off, but Andrew, not speaking, let go of her wrist, stood up, and walked toward the bedroom.

A pang of worry hit Isabella. Was Andrew angry? Her heart skipped a beat when Andrew emerged from the bedroom, his tall frame casting a long shadow. His face was serious, and in his hand was a first-aid kit.

“Hold out your hand,” he said, sitting beside her.

Isabella, knowing better than to protest, stretched her hand out obediently.

Andrew gently applied the ointment, his touch careful as he massaged the bruise on her hand.
