Oblivious to Malachi’s astonishment, Isabella glanced at Andrew with a playful gleam in her eye.
“Are you happy with my performance, darling?”
“Of course,” Andrew responded without hesitation.
Isabella’s smile grew wider.
“Then, how about a reward?”
Andrew, enchanted by her laughter, replied, “I’ve already prepared something. Do you have any other requests?”
Isabella rested her chin in her hand, sizing Andrew up as she thought for a moment.
“Well then, treat me to some red wine.”
“That won’t do.”
Andrew had long been aware of Isabella’s high tolerance for alcohol, but also how sensitive she could be. He had always avoided taking her out for drinks, knowing it could hurt her health.
Isabella had previously let Andrew have his way, since drinking was unimportant to her. But today, the atmosphere was different.
“Darling.” She fluttered her lashes at Andrew, her eyes full of a playful “please,” which instantly broke through Andrew’s resolve.
He pursed his lips and gave in, albeit reluctantly.
“Just one glass.”
“Okay! One’s perfect!” Isabella grinned.
“Then I’ll see you after work.”
Half a month later, in Estresa, the fallout from Lilian and Healy’s bet was still making waves online. Many of the Perkins family’s financial troubles had been exposed, and public interest was at an all-time high. The once mighty Perkins family had finally taken a major hit.
After Lilian and her father, Hyatt Perkins, finally dealt with their family’s issues, their reputation and power had taken a significant blow. They were consumed with hatred for both J and the Welch family. Hyatt spoke through clenched teeth.
“Lilian, I’ve let you do things your way for too long, but this time, you’ve really messed up. You can’t keep acting so recklessly. I’ll help you find J, but first, you need to behave and focus on managing the family business properly.”
Lilian’s eyes flashed with anger, but she didn’t argue.
“Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll get everything back, no matter what it takes!”
Seeing his daughter’s determination, Hyatt nodded in approval.
“Good. You’re not getting any younger. It’s time to cut ties with those people around you. I wasn’t happy with your last suitor, so I’ve found someone new for you to consider. What do you think?”
As Hyatt spoke, he took out several photos of the son of one of his business partners and placed them on the coffee table.
Lilian reached out and picked up the stack of photos, her manicured nails tapping lightly against the glossy surfaces. She examined them one by one. Her lips pressed into a thin line, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face.
“Ugh!”
She was about to criticize Hyatt’s taste when she suddenly paused.
“Dad, who is this?”
The photos Hyatt had given Lilian included the man’s life, work, and business activities. The one Lilian was holding was a photo from a business event. However, the person she was pointing to wasn’t the one Hyatt had introduced. Instead, it was the handsome young man beside him.
“Let me see.”
Hyatt took the photo and stared at the tall man in a dark gray suit, his upright brows giving him a distinguished look. Then, he looked at Lilian and said, “Do you take a liking to him? He is Mr. Cooper, the CEO of Homelight Enterprise. I already mentioned him to you before.”
Lilian had just graduated. Although she had accompanied Hyatt to some business meetings, it had been limited to the business circles in Estresa. She wasn’t familiar with business people from other areas. But the first time she laid eyes on Jared, she was smitten with him.
She leaned back in her chair, twirling the photo between her fingers, her lips curving into a smirk.
“Well, all the men you’ve found for me aren’t as good as this one.” Lilian spoke without hesitation.
“If you’re so set on finding me a marriage partner, why not go for him? He’s got the looks, talent, and ability. Moreover, he is a self-made success story. He doesn’t have a powerful family to support him. I’ll just marry him and bring him home as your son-in-law!”
Lilian expected Hyatt to immediately agree. But she was surprised to see his hesitant expression.
She looked at him with a frown and asked, “Why are you hesitating? Do you think he’s not good enough?”
Hyatt looked a bit embarrassed.
“With those other men, I can make a decision right away. But Jared is different. I haven’t had any contact with him. But I’ll ask around for you.”
Lilian’s expression hardened at Hyatt’s words. She rolled her eyes, understanding what he meant.
“Since you’re not sure if you can handle him, I’ll do it myself. Anyway, it will be more satisfying if I get him on my own.”
Hyatt looked at Lilian suspiciously. He asked tentatively, “Can you do it?”
“Of course! Don’t worry. I’ve already thought of a way,” Lilian responded confidently.
Her eyes gleamed with calculated ambition as she continued, “It doesn’t matter even if I lost in the NCI simulation. When I looked at real-life cases, I learned that Fisherman’s Cove will be developed. And the Klein Group of Ansport, the Morris family, and Homelight Enterprise are all interested. I plan to go to Jared and offer cooperation. When our two companies’ strengths combine, Homelight Enterprise will definitely win the project. Then, we can consider this project a betrothal gift from our Perkins family to Jared.”
Lilian paused, blinking a few times.
“Besides, don’t you know your daughter’s charm? There is no man I want that I can’t get.”
Hyatt couldn’t help but sigh inwardly as he observed Lilian’s unwavering confidence. Indeed, she was a woman who possessed everything: beauty, wealth, power, and influence. She was someone who always got what she wanted. As far as he could remember, she had never failed in pursuing a man.
Lilian’s persuasion worked on Hyatt. He laughed heartily and said, “Alright. Since you’ve already made up your mind, you have my full support. Just go to Ansport and when I find J, I’ll send them to you as a gift.”
“Just wait for my good news, then.”
Lilian took Jared’s photo and returned the rest to Hyatt. Then, she contacted her assistant to book her a flight to Ansport.
“These days have been crazy. Boss, you’re enjoying being the number one in investments. But you don’t know the craziness of those people trying to discover your identity, especially the Perkins family. I’m scared for you. They are relentless. You have to lie low during this time. Please don’t get exposed.”
Isabella and Jared, who finally met, were in a park. Isabella stood quietly as Jared’s words washed over her, his emotional outburst uncharacteristic.
Isabella also didn’t want an extremist like Lilian to know her identity, so she nodded in agreement.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be more careful.”
As soon as Isabella said this, a loud voice interrupted from behind her.
“Excuse me, may I ask? Are you two a couple?”
Isabella and Jared turned their heads in unison and saw a well-built, beautiful woman in black clothes with two bodyguards walking from a car, staring directly at them.
Was she talking to them?
Isabella and Jared exchanged glances. However, this subconscious action made the woman’s expression worsen.
As soon as Lilian got off the plane and arrived at the hotel, she instructed her people to investigate everything about Jared, including his itinerary. Her lips curled into a knowing smile as she received the update from her subordinates that Jared was headed to Alice Park. She saw it as the perfect opportunity to approach him without appearing too eager. So, she immediately left the hotel, taking her subordinates with her.
But when she arrived at the park, she saw Jared standing there with a beautiful woman.
How could Lilian not be angry? She immediately instructed her subordinates to investigate the relationship between the woman and Jared. She soon found out that the woman was Isabella, the fianc?e of the CEO of Klein Group, Andrew.
Isabella had a fianc?, yet here she was in the park, laughing and chatting with another man—and that man was none other than Jared, the very person Lilian had been eyeing. Lilian’s opinion of Isabella plummeted, sinking to an all-time low.
She raised her hand and snapped a photo of Isabella and Jared as their gazes locked. With a swift motion, she handed the phone to her assistant, instructing him to get it to Andrew. Then, without a second thought, she made her way toward Isabella and Jared.
Isabella didn’t recognize Lilian, but Jared did. His eyes widened in shock when the woman they had just been discussing appeared in front of them.
