“You didn’t have to tell your mother that. It’s only natural that she doesn’t like seeing me. I understand,” said Grace.
With those dark phoenix eyes of his fixed on Grace, Brian said,
“If you can understand why my mother doesn’t like to see you, can you understand why I said what I said?”
Grace was stunned. How could she not understand?
However… “You and I aren’t-”
Before she could finish, he interrupted, “If you’re going to reject me, then you don’t need to speak it out loud. If you don’t hate me to the extent where you could never fall in love with me, don’t speak it out loud so easily, okay?” Brian muttered. The high and mighty crown prince of the entertainment ndustry was begging her.
Grace felt a lump in her throat, and Brian still had gauze wrapped around his body and head. He suffered all these injuries from saving her!
“Why don’t I… peel an apple for you?” she said, changing the subject. She took a bright red apple from the fruit basket she had brought.
“Okay,” he said with a smile on his lips.
She took a small fruit knife from the table and carefully started peeling the apple for him.
Her peeling looked clumsy because of her injured fingers, but the scene seemed beautiful to Brian.
She sat quietly by the bedside. She lowered her eyes and peeled the apple little by little.
The sun shone through the gla** window of the ward and fell on her body, making the scene look so tranquil and warm.
He wanted to keep this scene in his mind. He wanted to remember it until it imprinted in his heart.
“Here, done,” she said, suddenly falling into a trance as she anded him the apple.
Che had once peeled an apple for another man too. He had smiled happily as he ate the apple she peeled.
“What’s the matter?” The corners of Brian’s smiling lips froze slightly when he saw Grace in a daze.
She said quickly, “Nothing. Eat.”
With that, she put the peeled apple into his hand.
He took the apple but did not eat it at once. He was still looking at her, who had looked at him earlier as though she were looking through him at someone else with some sadness.
‘Who did she think of when she looked at me?’
The question flashed through his mind, and an answer faintly surfaced.
“Were you thinking of Jason?” asked Brian. He could have not asked, but his pride made him ask.
Grace was stunned and kept quiet.
However, her silence made it clear to him that his guess was right.
“Even if you still have Jason in your heart, I’ll wait until you get over him and fall in love with me,” muttered Brian.
“It’s not that I haven’t gotten over him. I no longer have such feelings for him.” Grace denied.
“If that’s the case, all the better.” Brian chuckled. “Maybe my wait will be shorter that way. Grace, you don’t hate me, do you?”
Grace pressed her lips. ‘Hate? How could I hate Bryn?’
Just then, Brian’s phone rang suddenly. He picked it up, and his expression changed slightly after he listened for a while. He said in a deep voice, “Okay, got it!”
Once he ended the call, Brian looked at Grace with a straight face and said, “We’ve found out who’s the mastermind behind the accident.”
“What?” Grace was surprised. “So soon?”
“But it wasn’t my men who found out about it. It was Hadwin Stephenson. He found out more quickly than me. The mastermind has been arrested by the police and is undergoing further questioning.”
“Who’s the mastermind?” asked Grace.
Brian said, “Elizabeth Jackson, the bride the Stephenson family arranged for Hadwin Stephenson. Elizabeth Jackson probably intended to kill Lina, but you happened to be in the same car with her.”
The name rang a bell with Grace because she had heard about this woman from Lina. Elizabeth Jackson had even deliberately sought out Lina to scare her. She even wanted to force Lina to leave Hadwin Stephenson.
‘Is… taking a life that easy for some people? You can easily get rid of the people you want to kill with a car accident?’
A chilling sensation surged through Grace’s body due to fear and anger.
“Do you know which police station Elizabeth Jackson was taken to?” she asked.
Brian gave the address of the police station. Grace stood up and said, “I’m going to the police station. Get some rest, and I’ll visit you next time.”
She turned around, and before she could take another step,
Brian grabbed her hand. “When’s the next time?” he asked with his chin slightly raised.
“To-Tomorrow. I’ll come and see you after work,” she said after thinking about it for a moment.
“Okay. I’ll wait for you tomorrow!” Brian smiled. The indifference in his gentle eyes dissipated.
When Grace was on her way to the police station, she called Lina and learned that she and Hadwin Stephenson were already at the police station.
By the time Grace arrived at the police station, the statement about Elizabeth Jackson had come out.
Following the clues Hadwin Stephenson provided, other than catching Elizabeth Jackson, the police had also caught three. people who were paid by Elizabeth Jackson to help her.
The three men quickly confessed, so Elizabeth Jackson let down her defense and confessed to her crime as well.
In Elizabeth Jackson’s opinion, since Lina would not take the easy way out, getting rid of Lina was the most effective way. As long as Lina was gotten rid of, she could naturally marry Hadwin Stephenson and become Mrs. Stephenson.
However, Elizabeth Jackson had done this herself, and the Jackson family had no idea about it. If it was done by the Jackson family, they would have been more stealthy and it would have been harder to catch them.
After reading Elizabeth Jackson’s statement, Lina said to Grace with a face of guilt, “Grace, I’m sorry. You almost died ecause of me!”
Grace said, “Don’t say that if we’re friends. If we’re going to apologize, I’m afraid I have more to apologize about!”
Lina had given up her studies and a better future for her case. She had gone to a lot of trouble for her for three years. She could never repay her kindness!
Hadwin Stephenson stepped forward and said, “I didn’t handle the matter well. I didn’t expect Elizabeth Jackson to have the guts to do such a thing and made you two suffer!”
He had only been keeping an eye on the Jackson family but never sent anyone to see if there would be anything wrong with Elizabeth Jackson.
After all, in his opinion, Elizabeth Jackson was just the Jackson family’s sacrifice. She could not stir up a storm no matter how she tried. Unexpectedly, that woman had done such a thing.
“I’ll make it up to you. I won’t let Elizabeth Jackson escape justice. Since she dares to do such a thing, she should suffer the terrible consequences!” Hadwin Stephenson said with a cold voice. A hint of malice flashed across his eyes.
Grace felt her heart tremble. She had a feeling that Elizabeth Jackson was not going to have an easy life in the future.
Lina was Hadwin Stephenson’s bottom line. A man like Hadwin Stephenson would never be soft-hearted when someone hurt Lina.
Besides, Hadwin Stephenson had always been ruthless. Otherwise, he would never have become the Stephenson family’s patriarch. One could imagine what would happen to Elizabeth Jackson and even the Jackson family in the future.
The three walked out of the police station after they were done. Lina, said “Grace, why don’t we go have dinner together? It’s almost dinner time.”
