Isabella froze, taken aback by the suddenness of his action. But Andrew simply held her close, content, his heart swelling as he relished the softness of her presence. It felt so real. Slowly, he fluttered his eyelashes and opened his eyes once more.
“Darling.”
Isabella’s soft voice broke the silence between them, grounding Andrew in the reality of the moment. Seeing her wasn’t a dream—she had really come back.
His dark eyes sparkled as they locked onto Isabella’s beautiful face.
“Isabella, when did you come back?” he asked, his voice hoarse with sleepiness.
“I just got home. Surprised?”
Andrew looked deeply at Isabella, studying the smile that lit up her face. Without a word, he leaned in and kissed her, letting his actions speak for the emotions bubbling inside him.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. The kiss lingered, deep and fiery. Isabella was lost in the moment, her eyes soft and dreamy as she whispered Andrew’s name between kisses.
“Darling, why don’t you ask if I missed you?” Between kisses, she playfully pushed against him, her voice teasing.
Andrew paused, gazing down at her with affection as he stroked her hair.
“The moment you showed up by my bed, I already knew.”
Isabella smiled, a soft warmth spreading through her, before taking the lead and kissing him again. His hand, which had been gently threading through her hair, drifted lower, tracing the delicate curves of her body with a slow, passionate touch. The morning air seemed to thicken with romance, a perfect reflection of their longing after being apart.
Evie’s agent, Alis Feneck, met Evie outside an event venue.
After two days of rest, Evie’s health had improved significantly. But the biggest change was that there was a man by her side now.
Noticing the agent’s gaze fall on Waylon, Evie tried to explain, but Waylon took the initiative and spoke first.
“Alis, good to see you again. I’m just helping Evie as her assistant for now.”
This was something Waylon had begged Evie to agree to for days. After all, with Evie having work to do, being her assistant allowed him to stay close and take care of her, while also letting Evie see the real him.
Waylon’s words caught Alis off guard. Given his noble demeanor and striking appearance, it struck her as somewhat odd for him to be Evie’s assistant.
However, Evie simply pressed her lips together, offering no explanation. Turning toward Alis, Waylon said, “Evie needs to attend an event, right? She needs to head to the dressing room to get her makeup done.”
“Right.”
Alis quickly refocused on business, ushering Evie away to prepare her for the event.
Once Evie was inside the dressing room, Waylon turned back to Alis, explaining, “Evie and I have been friends for years. I’m stepping in as her assistant to look after her since I’ve got plenty of free time these days.”
Alis caught his drift, letting out a soft sigh.
“Evie really needs someone to care for her. I don’t understand why she refuses to hire an assistant. I even heard her housekeeper quit. Mr. Patton, maybe you can convince her to hire an assistant?”
“I will.” Waylon nodded in agreement.
Alis’s lips curled into a small smile as she felt a flicker of relief for Evie. Having worked alongside her for so long, Alis had come to understand that despite Evie’s outwardly cheerful, sunny personality—always shining bright in the company—there was a subtle fragility and loneliness that seeped through her voice when she was singing. Alis couldn’t be sure if that description was entirely accurate, but to her, Evie seemed like the kind of girl who spread joy while quietly hiding her sorrow. Now that she had a friend who truly cared for her, it felt like a small blessing.
Looking at Waylon, she said, “Since Evie’s agreed to have you with her, I’ll send you a copy of her upcoming schedule. You can get yourself acquainted with the assistant’s duties.”
“Thanks, Alis,” Waylon replied.
Later, Evie returned to Edge Entertainment to take care of some work. When she heard that Isabella was also in the office, she made her way to her office to say hello.
“I haven’t seen you in ages! I’ve missed you so much, Isabella.” In Isabella’s presence, Evie felt an overwhelming sense of acceptance and warmth, something that always brought out her softer, more playful side.
“Oh, by the way, I bought gifts for you and my brother when I went out of town for filming, but I didn’t bring them today. I’ll make sure to bring them next time.”
Isabella smiled, her gaze softening as she looked at the adorable Evie.
“Your little gifts can wait, but I’ve got a new song I wrote just for you. It’s right here, and you can take it with you.” Isabella handed Evie a notebook.
“Thank you!”
Evie’s excitement bubbled over as she eagerly opened the notebook.
Every song Isabella wrote for her was nothing short of perfect, and Evie couldn’t help but hum along to the melody in her head.
When Isabella saw the joy in Evie’s face, her expression softened.
“It’s a relief to see you like this. Your brother and I are both at ease.”
“Why is that?” Evie asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Isabella replied, “Waylon called us the other day, saying he’d upset you and wanted to make things right. I thought, if someone as sweet as you could be angry with him, then he must have really messed up. Your brother didn’t say much, but I could tell he was just as worried about you. We didn’t bring it up at the time because we didn’t want to upset you further.” Isabella smiled gently, feeling reassured seeing Evie in a good mood. Her cheeks were flushed with color, and she had clearly gained some weight, a sign of her healthy state.
“So Waylon called you,” Evie murmured, her hands clutching the notebook, the glimmer in her eyes slowly dimming.
Isabella nodded.
“It’s been nearly a month now, hasn’t it? Has he stopped being difficult with you?” Isabella asked, her gaze lingering on Evie.
Evie nodded her head.
“He’s actually been really good to me. Honestly, I think he was just joking around before.”
“Jokes should always have some boundaries,” Isabella replied with a gentle but pointed tone. Just then, her assistant knocked on the door. Evie stood up and smiled.
“You should get back to work. I’ll leave now.”
“Okay, drive safely,” Isabella reminded her with a kind smile.
As Evie left the Edge Entertainment building, she found herself alone in the driver’s seat.
She hadn’t asked Waylon to drive her today since it was a last-minute trip. Recently, Waylon had truly kept his promise, looking after her as he said he would. He often took her out and surprised her with thoughtful gestures.
At times, Evie nearly forgot that she’d agreed to Waylon’s plan because she had no other choice, considering letting him leave after just a few days. When she heard Isabella’s mention of his phone call today, she realized that Waylon had been with her for over half a month now.
Half a month was plenty of time for two people to go from strangers to close friends, even more so for two people who already knew each other well, like Evie and Waylon.
Since their parting was inevitable, Waylon’s efforts to make amends were more than enough. It was time to let things return to where they were meant to be.
As Evie was lost in her thoughts, Waylon’s message popped up on her phone.
“Let’s eat here today, okay? Do you need me to pick you up?”
There was a location pin after the message. Evie clicked on it, revealing the exact restaurant she’d been wanting to try but never had the chance.
Her fingers instinctively curled. Waylon was too good to her, so that for a moment, she almost wanted to abandon her origins and wait for him to make the next move.
“No. I’ll drive myself there.”
In front of the restaurant, which had a charming garden ambiance, Evie stepped out of her car. As she did, she saw Waylon already waving at her, his figure moving toward her with a smile.
He stood tall, his long legs making him look like he had stepped right off a runway. Even in simple clothes, he exuded effortless style. His face, with its irresistible charm, lit up with a smile, as if seeing Evie brought him genuine joy.
“You’re here. I booked a table in advance. Let’s go in.” But Evie couldn’t bring herself to move.
“Evie?” Waylon asked, his eyes full of concern.
“What’s wrong?”
She hesitated.
“Waylon, you’ve been compensating me for over half a month… I think it’s enough.”
