She set her laptop aside and walked to the railing, peering down.

The sun hung low in the sky, casting its warm light over the villa. Her silhouette, joined with the shadow of the railing, danced gently across the ground.

Andrew’s eyes flickered as he paused, glancing up at her. Their gazes met across the distance.

“Hi, welcome home!” Isabella waved, her voice warm, her smile radiant. The effect was immediate: Andrew’s earlier aloofness melted away, his heart suddenly racing.

The “NCI” project officially began three days later.

Isabella received her starting capital of one thousand dollars in a single day. She carefully used it, checking the market whenever she had free time between work matters.

Her attention was focused on the competition, and it wasn’t until Evie came by that Isabella was pulled into helping with the preparations for Milly and Howard’s engagement party.

Seeing Milly again, Isabella couldn’t help but be amazed by the power of love. It could turn a woman, once as vibrant as the sun, into someone weighed down by sadness. And it could also make Milly, who had once been cold and distant, smile in a way that felt truly genuine.

Isabella handed over the engagement gift she’d prepared—a pair of bracelets she had designed herself, inspired by Milly and Howard’s story. While Milly might not have understood the value of Sierra’s exclusive designs, she fell in love with them the moment she laid eyes on them.

Touching the bracelets, Milly looked at Isabella, trying to find the right words but finally settling on a quiet, “Thank you… I’ll wear it always.”

Milly, despite everything, still clung to the habits of her past life. She didn’t wear jewelry, save for the essentials, as it held little value for her. That Milly would say such words made Isabella realize the gift was just right.

She smiled softly.

“I’m glad you like it.”

True to her decisive nature, Milly had already slipped one of the bracelets on her wrist after changing into her dress. The bracelet, simple yet unique, complemented the elegance of her outfit perfectly. Evie couldn’t help but praise the stunning result.

“That’s so beautiful! I was thinking I should dress more low-key for your engagement…”

“Party, but now I see that’s not necessary. Even if I wore the same dress as you, I still wouldn’t be able to outshine you!”

Milly wasn’t entirely sure how she looked in her dress, but Evie’s kind words put her mind at ease. She turned to Evie, offering a grateful smile.

Their styles couldn’t have been more different, but Evie’s self-deprecating humor somehow made Milly feel at home. Once, the only person Milly cared about was Howard, but now, without even realizing it, there were more people who mattered to her—and she had become someone others cared for, too.

With the engagement dress picked out, everything else was falling into place.

The twenty-sixth was deemed an auspicious day. The sky was a bright canvas of blue, and the air was crisp and refreshing. In the grandest hotel in Ansport, members of prominent families gathered to celebrate Howard’s engagement.

Milly and Howard stood beside Elaine and Glenn respectively. Together, they stepped forward, standing side by side to share their happiness with the gathered crowd.

Evie, standing below the stage, watched as Milly and Howard exchanged looks of deep affection.

Not far away, the bond between Andrew and Isabella was equally unshakable.

As the applause rang out, Evie joined in, clapping sincerely. But soon, her feet led her to the drinks and snacks area, where she found herself picking up a glass of wine and downing it in one go.

When she set the glass down, a look of quiet sorrow settled in her eyes, tears welling up before she even realized it.

Once, Evie had dreamed of finding beautiful love and marriage, too. But after what had happened, she realized she could no longer look at the men who pursued her with the same innocent lens.

Evie still believed in love—it was just that she no longer believed it was meant for her. She could only watch from a distance, observing the happiness of others, as she was doing now.

Just as she reached for another glass of wine, a hand—clearly a man’s—landed gently on her shoulder.

Evie jumped in surprise. She quickly jerked away, her eyes warily scanning the person behind her.

“Huh? Little Evie, did I scare you?” Waylon asked, clearly amused. At the sound of his familiar voice and the sight of his handsome face, Evie’s defenses melted away.

Her eyes lowered, and after a moment of regaining her composure, she whispered, “Hello, Waylon.”

Waylon frowned, noticing the strange tone in her voice. Why did Evie sound like she was on the verge of tears?

He took a few steps toward her, and as she raised her gaze, he was taken aback.

She was wearing an elegant pale-yellow dress, half-backless, the color enhancing her delicate complexion. A string of lustrous pearls adorned her neck, with a sparkling star-shaped pendant in the center, catching the light with every subtle movement.

Her face was flushed from the wine, and her eyes shimmered with a mixture of sorrow and confusion.

Waylon stopped in his tracks, momentarily frozen.

“Waylon?”

Evie’s voice broke through his daze, pulling him back to the present.

Realizing how lost he had been in that moment, Waylon took a deep breath and patted his forehead, chiding himself for being so out of sorts.

When he looked at Evie again, all the emotions he had seen before were gone. She was simply gazing at him in quiet confusion, as if the sadness he’d glimpsed earlier was nothing but a figment of his imagination.

Waylon quickly remembered why he was there and said, “Today isn’t about us. Your brother is with my sister, and I thought you might be bored. So, I came to keep you company. By the way, how are you getting home after the banquet? Need a ride?”

Evie glanced around the hall and spotted Isabella chatting with Andrew and some business partners.

She turned back to Waylon and said, “No need.

My driver’s picking me up. Besides, you’ve been drinking, right? Even if I did need a ride, your driver would be the one taking me home, wouldn’t he?”

Waylon met her gaze, her playful smile making him scratch his head.

“You’re right. Alright then, how about this? I’ll stick around until your driver shows up, and then I’ll make sure you get to your car safely.”

“Okay.”

Milly and Howard’s engagement party came to a close without a hitch.

Milly uploaded photos and videos of the evening to Twitter, where she received countless well-wishes from fans and netizens.

Isabella liked the post and then tucked her phone away, focusing once more on work and the ongoing investment battle with the NCI project.

At work, everything was progressing smoothly. The NCI project, however, was a fierce battleground. Jared had gathered intel revealing that numerous investment moguls, including the younger generation of some financial giants, had joined the fray.

Isabella, ever calm, didn’t pay much attention to the latest developments, simply withdrawing and reallocating the fluctuating funds as needed.

The wealth rankings for NCI were updated daily.

Isabella glanced at the list, her eyes scanning the names of the top contenders.

Many of the names on the list were familiar to Isabella. She recognized a good number of them; they were all seasoned veterans in the world of investments. But among them, one name stood out—Lilian. She was listed in the top ten rankings.

“Is she some kind of rising star in the industry?” Isabella wondered aloud, her curiosity piqued as she clicked on Lilian’s assets. To her surprise, she had founded a software development and information service company.

Andrew, aware that Isabella was taking part in the investment simulation, joined her at the side and glanced at Lilian’s asset composition on her screen.

“She’s impressive, isn’t she? She’s made quite an impact in less than a month. I’d love to meet her if I get the chance,” Isabella remarked, her voice tinged with admiration.

Andrew, not particularly intrigued, cut to the chase.

“If I recall correctly, Lilian Perkins is the only daughter of a prominent real estate mogul from Estresa. This account’s likely hers.”

He casually circled Lilian’s assets on the screen.

“Her company is working closely with several others in the rankings. Clearly, her connections have played a big part in her rise to the top.”

He scrolled down and found Isabella’s nickname, “J,” listed in the twenty-first position. He clicked to view her asset details.

Unlike Lilian, Isabella hadn’t founded any companies. Her investments were spread across various industries—information, food, and daily chemicals—often in medium or small enterprises. And her stakes weren’t exactly minor.

While examining the data, Andrew’s eyes—deep and calm like an endless abyss—reflected a quiet admiration.
