Elaine continued, “You need to reflect on your actions. Until then, you cannot come home.” The coldness in her voice left no room for argument.
Kristine’s smug satisfaction drained away in an instant. She had never expected her mother, who had always been supportive, to turn against her. Glenn’s silent but disapproving stare was even worse.
Without saying another word, Elaine and Glenn turned and walked out of the room, leaving Kristine in utter shock.
“Elaine Patton!” Kristine shouted, her voice filled with desperation. Elaine paused at the door but didn’t turn back.
“I know I’m not your real daughter,” Kristine said, her voice trembling. “But you always promised to treat me like I was! Ever since Isabella returned, you’ve favored her. And now, after she hurt me, you blame me? How is that fair?”
Elaine finally turned to face her. “Is that really what you think? Kristine, we know what you’ve done.”
“What have I done?” Kristine spat, her voice bitter. “Everything I do is wrong to you, while everything Isabella touches turns to gold, doesn’t it?”
Elaine’s eyes filled with sadness, and Glenn’s face hardened even further. “Kristine,” he said with finality, “we’ve allowed this behavior for far too long. Take care.”
And with that, they left.
Josie was visibly upset. “Their favoritism is outrageous!” she fumed.
Kristine felt a mix of anger and despair. They were supposed to take her side. How could everything go so wrong? Tears streamed down her face as she lay in bed, feeling utterly defeated. Just then, her phone buzzed with a trending news alert.
Kristine, too upset to care at first, absentmindedly glanced at the screen. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the headline: The Truth Behind Kristine’s Fall?
Her hands shook as she unlocked her phone and opened the article. What she saw made her blood run cold—a live stream from the hospital had exposed the entire conversation between her and Isabella. The world now knew that Kristine had tried to frame Isabella.
“No, no, no…” she whispered in disbelief, tapping on the video. As she watched the footage, it felt like her entire world was crumbling. Everything she had schemed, everything she had planned, was now laid bare for everyone to see.
Josie, noticing her distress, peeked over Kristine’s shoulder and saw the video too. Her expression shifted from anger to unease as she watched Kristine’s cruel and manipulative words play out in real time. “Kristine, is this real?” she whispered, horrified.
Kristine couldn’t respond. Her mind raced, her breath quickened. How had Isabella managed to stream the entire conversation? She hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
Isabella set me up! Kristine thought, seething with rage. But there was no denying the truth now. Everyone knew she had tried to sabotage her sister.
Josie, feeling deeply uncomfortable, quietly left the room.
“Bang!”
The sound of objects being smashed echoed through the hallway as Kristine, overwhelmed with anger and despair, began throwing things in her room. Her carefully constructed plan had completely fallen apart. Now, all she could do was scream into the silence.
Why had everything gone so wrong?
Meanwhile, Elaine and Glenn had likely seen the live stream too, and Kristine now understood why they had treated her so coldly.
Her real nightmare was just beginning.
As Kristine reflected on her earlier stance with Glenn and Elaine, regret pierced her like a knife. Could she ever return home after this? The root of all her problems was Isabella, and her hatred toward her only intensified.
Just then, Kristine’s phone rang. It was the panicked voice of one of her servants. “Miss Patton, the truth has come out! Mrs. Patton is threatening to fire me and demand compensation. What should I do?”
Kristine’s face twisted in irritation. She had specifically hired this servant to act as a witness. Now that the truth had been revealed, what use was the servant to her? “Why should I care about your problems?” she spat before abruptly hanging up the phone.
The servant was left in stunned silence. She had helped Kristine out of sympathy, but now, with the truth revealed, Kristine had discarded her like trash. Faced with a huge financial penalty and the loss of her job at one of the wealthiest families’ homes, the servant broke down in tears, filled with regret.
Meanwhile, Andrew had driven Isabella to a private airport she had never seen before.
“I didn’t know Gemond had an airport like this,” Isabella commented, scanning her surroundings.
“This is the Klein family’s private airport,” Andrew responded nonchalantly.
Isabella fell silent, gazing at the opulent airport. It was like staring at a mountain of gold. She was once again reminded of the unimaginable luxuries the wealthy could afford.
Lynda soon joined them, and her eyes were filled with remorse as she saw Isabella. “I know what Kristine did. I never imagined she could be so cruel, hurting herself just to frame you. Don’t worry, the National Dance Association will expel her, and she’ll be blacklisted from the dance world.”
“Okay,” Isabella replied with indifference. “Let’s go.”
They boarded Andrew’s private plane. Inside, it was more like a luxurious home, complete with a living room, bedroom, and even a bathroom. Isabella expected Andrew to leave once they were in the air, but he stayed.
“Aren’t you getting off?” Isabella asked, surprised.
“I’m heading to Mafelen on a business trip,” Andrew replied with a gentle smile. “If you need anything, you can always reach out to me.”
Isabella nodded, slightly taken aback by the coincidence. Still, having a familiar face nearby would be comforting.
Lynda couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer luxury of the Klein family. Although the Patton were wealthy, the Kleins were in a completely different league. As Andrew worked quietly across from her, she noticed how attentive he was to Isabella, always checking to see if she needed anything.
“If you want to sleep, the bedroom is more comfortable,” Andrew offered.
“Is it your bedroom?” Isabella asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, but it’s restocked with fresh supplies each time,” Andrew explained.
Isabella hesitated for a moment, then nodded and headed to the bedroom. She needed some rest. Once she was gone, Lynda turned to Andrew.
“Andrew, are you still considering the marriage arrangement between our families?”
Andrew paused, then replied, “Yes.”
“For Isabella?” Lynda asked, her tone curious.
Andrew’s gaze softened. “Yes.”
Lynda gave a small nod. “You have a good eye.”
She had once felt pity for Kristine, wondering why Andrew didn’t favor her. But after everything, it was clear Kristine wasn’t a suitable match. Her true nature had been exposed, and it was nothing like her polished exterior.
The plane flew smoothly through the night. When Isabella woke up, the sky outside was shrouded in darkness, and soon after, they landed in Mafelen.
They were taken to a hotel arranged for the international competition. Andrew had his own car waiting and drove them to the hotel. Lynda couldn’t help but express her gratitude.
“Thank you, Andrew.”
“You’re welcome. If you need anything, just let me know,” he said with a warm smile.
As Lynda and Isabella entered the hotel, Lynda remarked, “Andrew truly is an exceptional man.”
“Yes, he’s a great guy,” Isabella responded, her tone neutral.
Lynda eyed her carefully. “How do you feel about Andrew?” she asked, curiosity in her voice.
After reflecting for a moment, Isabella simply said, “He’s a nice man.”
Lynda was momentarily speechless. Was that all there was to it? She hadn’t expected that one day Andrew would go from being the one pursued to the one doing the pursuing. But it seemed that Isabella wasn’t going to be easily won over. It was clear Andrew had a long journey ahead of him.
Lynda and Isabella checked in at the hotel and headed upstairs. As they exited the elevator, they were met with the sight of a heated argument by one of the rooms. A group of women, clearly natives of Mafelen, stood outside the room, while inside were the other two contestants from Lorpond.
Lynda frowned, recognizing her countrymen embroiled in a dispute. She quickened her steps, curious to find out what was happening. Isabella, meanwhile, lingered behind, observing the scene with mild interest.
Rosaline Payne, one of the Lorpond contestants, was visibly upset. “We were assigned this room randomly. It has a great view, and now they want us to swap. We’ve already settled in, so we declined…”
The woman from Mafelen, tall and blonde, dressed in designer clothes that screamed luxury, sneered with clear disdain. “Even if you’ve already settled in, it’s not that hard to pack up and move. I’ll make it easy for you—ten thousand dollars for the room.”
She held out a sleek card as if the offer was an undeniable deal.
Beside her stood another Mafelen woman in green, her expression cold and aloof, watching the confrontation unfold without a word.
Lynda’s face hardened. “If you want a better room, why not just upgrade?”
“The hotel’s fully booked,” the blonde woman snapped, her patience clearly wearing thin. “It’s just a little packing. Honestly, it’s no wonder Lorpond hasn’t performed well these past few years. I can see the laziness is deeply ingrained.”
