(Alexander)

I smiled at the sight of Scarlett who was training with the betas and gammas, thankful that they took it upon themselves to do it. Frankly, I didn’t ask them to do it, I was more than grateful that they did.

My eyes caught sight of mum who was walking out of the house, knowing that her locking herself in the room would only cause suspicion, she knew not to do that. I nodded at Beatrice, one of the gammas who was watching as they trained Scarlett to come to me, and excusing herself from the group, she rushed to me.

“Alpha?”

“Beatrice, I want you to stay with Scarlett for the day. I have a few things to do and I don’t want her being alone. Please, you and the girls try getting her to train, and…”

“Don’t worry, Alpha, Luna Scarlett would be safe with us” she said, stopping me. It was no secret to the pack that her being an omega was something that even I disliked in having her as a mate, but it seemed like our fate played a different game and I found myself falling more in love with her as days passed by. I also didn’t know whether or not she would be able to shift, if not, this would be her sixth moon, and it killed me to admit that I would be the reason behind that.

“‘Thank you, Beatrice” I said, walking away from her and heading toward mum who tensed when she saw me. Her eyes avoided mine, and I could tell that she wanted to leave; however, she also knew better not to. Her crossing an Alpha after what I just learned was not going to be the best of moves. “Follow me, mum” I said, walking deeper toward the forest. She looked down at her feet for a second before raising her head and walking as proud as she always does, and not wanting to raise any questions, she walked beside me. “Where are you taking me?”

“Believe me, if I wanted to hurt you, I would have told father of what you told me” I said, glaring at her. She took deep and slow breaths despite her racing heartbeat, and looking down at her shadow, I could see her clenching and unclenching her fists despite me not opening my mouth to say a word, a habit she had whenever she was nervous.

I stayed quiet, nevertheless, not bothering to say a word to comfort her, not that she needed it; she knew what she did and the price of it, and she was only taking advantage of the fact that she was my mother. Had it been anyone else, they would have been dead on point, and regardless of that, I was thankful for the fact that Scarlett was choosing to stay quiet about it. The woman could have easily caused a hassle, and I wouldn’t have been able to blame her. “Why did you do it?” I asked, turning to face her once I was sure that we were in a secluded area. It was a part of the territory where rarely anyone ever came, and judging by the fact that everyone was busy, I knew that no one was in the forest to begin with. The kids were either getting instructions, studying, or training, and the gammas and betas were training. The omegas, aside from Scarlett in the past, knew not to roam deep in the forest in case an issue should arise.

“Dante…”

“Please, mother, why did you do it?” I asked, stopping her. I didn’t want her giving me some lame excuse, and I didn’t want her lying to me. I was willing to listen to her reasons, whatever they were, and I would know how to work on whatever I decided after that; however, I needed to understand what on Earth happened that night and why.

“I was scared, Alex” she said, and I nodded, waiting for her to proceed “they kept threatening me that they would be taking you from me, and hell, they even did take you from me. I was barely allowed to b*reast feed you when you were an infant, and the second you stopped drinking my milk, I could barely ever see you”

“Reason?”

“They didn’t see me fit as the pack’s Luna, and judging by the fact that I was not part of THIS pack, they did not even want me as your father’s mate. I know that it was wrong of me, and I shouldn’t have, and I even tried stopping it, but it was too late…”

“Did you know that Scarlett and her parents were in there?”

“I swear, I did not. I thought it was only them in the house. I did not even know that they took you from your bed in secret. I had told the maids not to let anyone take you, they did not care, and they did take you. I went and tried stopping it, I tried getting all of you out; but by the time I got there, things were already crumbling…” she said, taking a deep breath “I tried to get her parents out, but I couldn’t, I was about to lose myself to save you. Her father was the one who got me out, and then her mum gave Scarlett to me before they pushed us out. I ran, and believe me, I don’t know how I carried the two of you in my arms, but I did…”

“I carried you out and ran as fast as I could, and when your father came to me, he found Scarlett in my arms…” she said, taking a deep breath “he mourned over his parents but was thankful that you came out alive, and judging by what I told him about Scarlett’s parents, he wanted to have her as beta to honor…”

“What?” I asked, frowning in confusion “he wanted to do what?”

“I’m so sorry” she said, avoiding my eyes.

“So, not only did you kill the woman’s parents, but you were sure to keep her from the training she needed and from taking whatever duties my father assigned for her?”

“You two grew closer as days passed. I was not blind not to see it, and I could tell that it was more than just simple friendship after we told you that you weren’t siblings and as you started growing older, your eyes showed it all, but I…”

“You chose to separate the two of us by ensuring that we hate one another?”

“Alex…”

“Please stop” I said, raising my hand, making her lower her eyes to the ground “being my mother, I do not know what to tell you, but I will not let this slide without a punishment”

“Alex…”

“I will stay quiet about this and I will tell Scarlett to be quiet; but one mistake toward her, or one insult and I will be sure that father handles it. I do not care, and I will not care what you tell me at that point. My daughter, you see when her mother allows it, and my mate, you do not approach in any manner of disrespect. She is MY Luna, and you are to treat her as so, am I making myself clear?”

“Yes, Alpha…” mum said, looking down at her feet.

“Good, now go back to the pack and I do not want anyone to find out about this…”
