Her voice was tearful.

“Can we talk? It’s all my fault.

Please don’t blame Jared..”

I stood up and walked to the door.

“Bailee, I’m going to say this one last time.”

My voice was as cold as ice.

“Mind your manners on the job.”

“But… “ “No buts.”

I looked at her.

“And if you interrupt my work like this again, I’ll report you to the organizing committee for violating conference rules.”

Bailee’s face instantly went white.

Robert closed the door firmly.

“People like that are just annoying every time you see them.”

He returned to his seat.

“How did you put up with her before?” “Habit, I guess.”

I smiled wryly.

“For three years, I thought endurance was a virtue.”

“Endurance is a virtue, but not for everyone.”

Robert looked at me.

“Some people, the more you endure, the more they take.”

His words hit home.

For three years, I’d been polite to Bailee, even helped her when she first started.

But she took my kindness for granted and then tried to steal my husband.

“Robert,” I said, sitting down.

“You’re right.

There’s no point letting some people walk all over you.

“

I didn’t want to attend the welcome banquet that evening.

But Julian called personally, saying it was a diplomatic necessity.

I wore a simple, elegant black evening gown.

The moment I entered the ballroom, I felt countless eyes on me.

My words from the afternoon had clearly spread through the entire summit.

“Ms.Quinn.”

Madame of the Franland representative, an elegant woman, approached me.

“Madame, good evening.”

“I must say, what you said this afternoon moved me deeply,” she said in Franlish.

“That is what true professional spirit should be.”

“Thank you for understanding.”

“My husband told me you are the most exceptional interpreter he has ever seen.”

She glanced around and lowered her voice.

“Some men do not know how to treasure the gem they have.”

She clearly knew about Jared and me.

“I’m flattered.”

“No, it is the truth.”

She patted my hand.

“A courageous woman is the most beautiful.”

Just then, Jared appeared nearby.

< Chapter 7 The Franland Madame's Approval He was in a black tuxedo, still handsome.

But I knew what lay beneath that surface.

“Kathy,” he walked over and said, “Can we talk?” The Franland Madame gave us a knowing look and discreetly walked away.

“We have nothing to discuss.”

“Kathy, I know you’re mad at me, but what you said today..”

“What? Was it untrue?” I picked up a glass of champagne and said, “Or do you think I shouldn’t tell the truth?” “You know that’s not what I mean.”

Jared looked around and said, “But an occasion like this..”

“An occasion like what?” I interrupted.

“An international event? Then I should be more honest.”

“Kathy, you’re going to ruin both of our careers like this!” Would this have ruined our career? I laughed.

“Jared, get one thing straight.”

I said, looking him in the eye.

“My career has never depended on anyone.”

“That’s not what I meant..”

“Then what did you mean?” I set down my glass.

“That I should keep silently enduring your betrayal, like before, and keep playing the happy couple in public?” Jared’s face darkened.

“Kathy, I admit I was wrong, but.” “But what? You had your reasons? But it was for work?” My voice grew colder.

“Or is it that Bailee needs you more than I do?” “Enough!” Jared finally exploded.

“Kathy, haven’t you caused enough trouble?” His voice was a bit loud, and people around us turned to look.

I calmly looked at him and said, “I’m not making a scene.

I’m just stating facts.”

“Facts?” Jared sneered and said, “What you’re saying is just your one-sided interpretation!” “One-sided interpretation?” I took my phone from my purse.

“Shall I play the recording for everyone right now?” Jared’s face went pale instantly.

“You.. you really recorded it?” “Of course,” I smiled and said, “As an interpreter, recording is a professional habit.”

At that moment, Bailee pushed through the crowd.

She was in a pink gown, looking fragile and pitiful.

“Kathy, what’s all the arguing about?” Bailee asked, pretending not to know.

“Nothing important.”

I looked at her and said, “Just discussing professional ethics.”

“Professional ethics?” A flicker of panic crossed Bailee’s eyes.

“Kathy, what you said this afternoon..”

‹ Chapter 7 The Franland Madame’s Approval “What? Was there a problem?” I interrupted her.

“No problem.

It’s just..”

Bailee bit her lip.

“It just felt like some things might no have been appropriate to say in that kind of occasion.”

Not appropriate? I looked at Bailee and suddenly found it all quite laughable.

“Bailee, what occasion is suitable for telling the truth, in your opinion?” “I..

I didn’t mean it like that.” “Then what did you mean?” I took a step closer.

“Do you think I should keep helping you cover up the truth?” Bailee retreated a step, her eyes full of fear.

“Kathy, you.. you’ve misunderstood..”

“Misunderstood?” I laughed as I said, “Bailee, should I play what you said during the Mayland crisis for everyone, too?” “You.. you recorded me too?” “Of course.”

I watched the color drain from her face.

“After all, those words were far too memorable.”

Just then, Robert appeared at my side.

“Ms.Quinn, a guest would like to meet you.”

His appearance instantly defused the awkward situation.

I glanced at Jared and Bailee, then followed Robert.
