“That was amazing—here’s a tip!”

The tips from live-stream viewers pushed the channel to the homepage.

The buzz around the footage was so intense that even other paparazzi who had snuck in took screenshots and shared them widely.

Later that night, after returning home, Dane set aside his clothes, worried the strange scent might affect Susan. He planned to have the clothes tested the next day but said nothing about the Golden Club incident to Susan.

At midnight, just as Isabella had fallen asleep, her phone suddenly lit up, ringing loudly on the bedside table. Both she and Andrew awoke simultaneously, confused by the unexpected call at such a late hour.

Isabella furrowed her brow as she picked up the phone. It was the head of public relations from Patton Group. She answered, instantly shaking off her grogginess as she listened to the caller. Her demeanor grew icy in an instant.

“There’s no way my brother is having an affair. Don’t act yet. I’ll call you back later.”

After calmly issuing her orders, Isabella ended the call and immediately checked the gossip headlines.

The first headline screamed, “Patton Group President Dane Patton, Caught Cheating on His Newly Married Wife with…” The bold text grabbed attention immediately.

Isabella clicked on the article and saw that it was accompanied by real photos.

The head of public relations had confirmed the authenticity of the images, with no edits or alterations. As she saw the woman hugging her brother, Isabella instantly recognized Docie. Her face darkened. She couldn’t believe Docie had the nerve to behave like this.

“Sweetheart, I’ll have people investigate this immediately. I’ll also get the news removed.”

Andrew, who had known Dane for years, was well aware of his character. A few photos weren’t enough to know the full story, and the headline clearly indicated that the two had only interacted hours ago. It was clear someone had deliberately made the news go viral.

Isabella calmly took Andrew’s hand. “Many people are envious of the Patton Group’s success. Since we don’t know the full story yet, I’ll call my brother to find out what’s going on.”

“Alright.”

Although Andrew agreed to hold off for the moment, he immediately instructed his secretary to investigate who was behind the headline and its origins. He had substantial influence in Ansport, so Isabella didn’t object.

The call connected, and Dane, already aware of the news, stood outside of the house with his phone in hand, explaining the situation to Isabella.

“I didn’t know what was happening at the time. Docie must have mistaken me for someone else. I never expected to be photographed.” Dane also realized someone was working behind the scenes to make the news spread more widely, but the fact remained that he and Docie had indeed had physical contact.

He rubbed his temples in frustration. “Docie probably hasn’t sobered up yet. I could ask her to clarify things, but in a situation like this, the people involved rarely come across as credible. No matter how it plays out, Patton Group’s reputation will take a hit.”

Isabella heard the helplessness in Dane’s voice but disagreed with his last point.

“Who says Patton Group’s reputation will be damaged?” Isabella said coldly. “If you’ve been set up, then Patton Group’s reputation won’t be harmed. In fact, it’ll improve because of you.”

Dane was confused. “What do you mean?”

Isabella replied, “I mean exactly what I said.

The person Docie is after is you. She’s not involved with anyone named Henry. I did some digging on her before, and you mentioned the strange perfume she wore.”

After their first meal together, Isabella had sensed something off about Docie, which prompted her to investigate.

There was no Henry in Docie’s personal connections.

“As far as I know, Docie has no romantic history.”

Dane paused for a moment before responding, “Don’t tell Susan about this for now. I’m sending the clothes for testing immediately.” Susan’s pregnancy had been risky from the start, and knowing about the situation before it was clear would only cause her unnecessary stress.

Isabella nodded. “I understand. You should also tell Susan’s father.”

“Okay.”

After ending the call, Dane promptly arranged to have the clothes tested. He also dialed Docie’s number. If what his sister had said was true, he would make sure Docie paid for what she did.

Docie’s peaceful slumber was interrupted by her phone ringing. Grumbling, she grabbed the phone, but when she saw it was Dane calling, she quickly sat up.

“Mr. Patton?” Docie’s voice was laced with surprise.

Dane wasted no time. “Are you sober?”

Docie thought he was worried about her. She felt a flicker of happiness. She hadn’t expected one small moment of physical contact to make Dane care for her.

This was a good sign. She quickly answered, “I’m sober.

Thank you for your concern, Mr. Patton, and for making sure I got home safely.”

When Docie didn’t mention her improper behavior from last night and apologize, Dane felt disgusted.

“Check the news online. If you want to thank me, you’ll clarify what happened.”

He ended the call abruptly.

Docie stared at the phone in shock, taken aback by Dane’s sudden cold tone. She hesitated before opening Twitter, and when she saw the photos of herself with Dane, panic set in. She feared the consequences she would have to face if Susan ever found out.

If Susan found out, their mentor-disciple relationship would be severed, and both the Riggs and Patton families would surely make her pay. Docie immediately considered posting a clarification online. But as she opened her account, she hesitated.

She’d always been lucky—no such scandal had been captured at the Golden Club before. So why had she been photographed the moment she met with Dane?

She blinked, then swallowed nervously. Right now, the biggest obstacle standing between her and Dane was Susan. What if she were out of the picture?

Susan had used her pregnancy to bind Dane to her, and their marriage had been secured through that. If Docie could take advantage of this situation…

Docie quickly formulated a cunning plan. Since Dane had demanded she clarify the situation, she decided to use the opportunity to fight for him before doing so.

After ending the call with her, Dane got straight to work. He involved the company’s public relations team, which promptly reached out to Docie.

“Don’t worry, I’ll cooperate fully,” Docie assured them, her tone sweet and compliant. But as soon as she hung up, she dialed Susan.

“Susan, I’m so sorry! The news is all my fault. I caused trouble for Mr. Patton, but don’t worry—I’m ready to clarify everything.”

Susan, who tended to sleep deeply at night, had been jolted awake by the call. Realizing that Dane wasn’t in the room, she felt an uneasiness creep over her. Hearing Docie’s tearful tone made her even more anxious. She clutched her stomach as a faint discomfort set in.

“What news are you talking about?” Susan asked, switching on the bedside lamp, her voice laced with confusion.

Docie immediately understood that Susan had no knowledge of the news. Playing the situation to her advantage, she responded with mock hesitation, “Oh? Susan, you don’t know? Never mind—just focus on resting well.”

At that moment, the two servants assigned to care for Susan noticed the light in her room was on. Remembering Dane’s strict orders to keep Susan away from her phone, they hurried inside. But when they entered, they found Susan pale-faced, clutching her stomach, with her phone in hand.

This was bad!

Both servants hurried to Susan’s side, gently taking her phone and soothing her.

“Mrs. Patton, breathe deeply—it’s going to be okay.”

One servant quickly contacted the family doctors while also updating Dane on Susan’s condition.

When Dane received the servant’s call, he hurried back immediately. Doctors surrounded Susan, administering emergency care. She lay on the bed with her eyes shut and her brows knitted tightly.

“What’s going on? Didn’t I tell you to look after her properly?”

The servants looked overwhelmed with guilt and confusion.

“Mr. Patton, we were standing guard outside.

The moment the light came on, we went in, but we didn’t expect her to check the news online right after waking up.”

Sensing something was wrong, Dane asked, “Where’s her phone?”

“It’s right here.”

One of the servants handed him the phone. Unlocking the phone, Dane was startled to find that Docie was Susan’s most recent contact. A notification appeared at the top of the screen—it was Docie’s clarification video.
