What did I do wrong to this girl? She was the one who destroyed my life; she was the one who seduced my boyfriend behind my back. I always let her faults slide away, but now I had enough of her.
I entered my department’s building and began to search for her. I could see that others were looking at me.
“Where is she? Where is Luisa?” I asked them in rage.
They pointed their fingers outside. I walked out and searched for her. I saw her laughing with her friends as if she were enjoying her day.
“How dare you spread such nonsense?” I yelled at her.
She turned to me and smirked at me. “Oh, hi. Miss Sophia. No, sorry, Alpha Bryan’s new secretary.”
I walked up to her and did not wait for her to say anything else. I slapped her hard.
Everyone around us looked shocked by my action.
“How dare you?” Luisa asked, holding her cheek where I had just slapped her.
“How dare I? How can you post something like that? How can you become so cheap? Should I have done the same? Clicking photos of you and posting them online when I caught you red-handed with my boyfriend?”
Luisa glanced at others who were looking at us. She lost her reputation when Bruce insulted her that day. So she tried to get it back today by throwing me under the bus.
“I said what I had seen yesterday. How can you become the CEO’s personal secretary without graduating? What is your ability to obtain such a high-paying position?”
“If you want to know the answer, go to Alpha Bryan and ask him yourself. Don’t try to disgrace me like that ever again.”
Luisa sneered at me. “I don’t need to go to Alpha to learn his thoughts. A man like him can never give you a chance like this. I bet he feels disgusted when you stay beside him. But you seduced his delta, so he did that for him. The reason is that you are a bitch.”
I raised my hand to slap her once more. However, a wrist stopped my hand in the middle of the air.
I turned my head and saw Bruce.
He looked fierce. His eyes were scouring me as he tightened his grip around my wrist.
Before I could say anything, he pulled me toward him and began dragging me somewhere.
“LEAVE MY HAND.” I shouted at him.
People stepped aside to give Bruce a way to leave. I tried to let go of my hand from his grip, but the more I struggled, the more he gripped it firmly. No one came to help me. Sara and Nolan both did not come to the university today. So there was no one who could rescue me from him.
After bringing me to a corner in the middle of two buildings, he slammed me against the wall harshly.
I felt pain in my back as I rubbed the back of my shoulder.
“What’s wrong with you, Bruce?”
He caged me between his arms and growled at me.
I shut my eyes after hearing the growl. Had he lost his mind?
“What was that? What were you doing with Delta Edger?”
I opened my eyes and looked at him. “Why do you care? It has nothing to do with you.”
Because my back was pressed against the wall behind me, I was unable to even take a step back when he leaned towards me.
“Can’t you see what I am feeling right now?”
I was struck by the trembling in his voice, which caused my heart to ache.
My gaze was fixed on him. The look of distress in his eyes was clear to me.
Our past reflected in my mind as I looked away from his eyes. Eventually, memories of the times we had spent together began to flood my head.
“I thought you were alone. Just like you wanted, I let you remain. On top of that, I did not come to bother you in any way. But seeing you with another man, I am feeling hurt, Sophia. I am regretting everything I did behind your back. Everyone got a second chance; why can’t you give me one?”
“S-Stop talking about this. I have nothing to do with Edger. He is just a friend. That Luisa is lying….” I paused and turned my head to look at him, then continued.
“And you believe her again. Such a loser you are!”
He moved his hand and cupped my cheek. I realized he touched my left cheek. He slowly stroked it with his thumb.
It made me widen my eyes. His brother’s face reflected my mind while I was looking at him.
Right away, I shoved him away from me.
“Stay away, Bruce.”
I turned to leave, but he took hold of my hand and pulled me back. He leaned his head on my neck and hugged me from behind.
“I will do whatever you want. Please don’t abandon me. I promise not to be unfaithful to you ever again. I love you, Sophia. Please come back to me.”
His actions shocked me. I tried to free myself from his grasp.
“Bruce, let go.”
He tightened his grip around my waist. He shook his head as his chin kept brushing against my neck.
“I can’t. The first time I saw you, I set it in my mind that you were mine. How can I let you go? You know how much I love you, baby. You know me.”
With a blank expression on my face, I stared in front of me.
How could he say I know him?
“I don’t know you. I used to love you and give you everything. But you hurt me and broke my heart. Even if you want, you can’t mend my heart.”
As soon as he heard me, he turned me around to face him. Our bodies rubbed against each other by the turn. The closeness caused me to take a deep breath.
He was my ex-boyfriend. We had broken up only a few months ago. I had not come over the fact yet. Why was he doing this to me?
“I promise I will mend it. Just give me a chance, okay?”
I shook my head, but he cupped my face and lowered his head to look at me.
“Do you remember what you said on our first anniversary? You promised me that you would never leave me. When I asked you, even if I did anything wrong, what would you do? You replied that you would give me a chance since you believed that I loved you.”
I blinked my eyes as I recalled the memories.
Even though I did not want to remember those days, it made my eyes blurry.
“How stupid I was!” I muttered.
I was so in love with him that my brother used to call him my weakness.
I looked into his eyes and saw a glint of hope. I shut my eyes and took a few deep breaths in order to better deal with this situation.
But as soon as I closed my eyes, I was hunted by a pair of dark eyes.
Immediately after opening my eyes, I experienced a sensation of being suffocated. I felt as though my wolf kept reminding me of the person I belonged to.
I bit my bottom lip and pushed him away from me.
He looked at me with disbelief. “Why?”
His question was simple, but I had no answer.
I turned around but was stopped from leaving by his question.
“What if I make you fall for me again?”
The cold air that was all around me gushed in my direction to engulf me. His question gave me a chill inside.
“It’s not possible,” I replied to him.
‘The situation is different now,’ I told myself in my head.
I turned my head to him and said,
“Bruce, you cheated on me; we broke up, and you realized your fault. But that doesn’t mean I will return to you. There is no excuse for cheating. I was pure from my side when I was with you. So if I give you a chance, it will be unfair to that Sophia.”
He was silently looking at me. I got my chance and left him there alone.
As I made my way to my class, my heart pounded because I couldn’t stop thinking about Bruce’s defeated look. Was there still a place for him in my heart? Why could I not react viciously, just like he did to me at Luisa’s house?
If I had been in his position, would he have been able to forgive me?
My mind suddenly flashed back to the warning that his older brother had given me. I experienced a tremor within my body.
‘I am someone else’s mate now. If I still think about another man, will it not count as cheating, too?’
