Susan had said that from today onward, Docie would gain hands-on exposure to all the major departments within the Riggs Group. Each day, she would also spend time in the research and development department, crafting her own perfumes while applying the insights she gathered. Afterward, she would participate in perfume-making contests to sharpen her skills and deepen her understanding of the craft.

Docie saw this as a valuable opportunity and had no objections. After quickly reviewing the information Susan had sent her, she dove into her departmental tasks.

For two days, Susan worked remotely but kept a close watch on Docie’s progress. Once she noticed that Docie had learned enough in the raw materials department, she transferred her to the project department.

This department was vital, managing the group’s development goals, resource allocation, and project execution. On her second day in the project department, Docie was assigned a task involving collaborations with the group’s product ambassadors.

The team believed that securing a particular celebrity as the face of their new product line could significantly boost the brand’s benefits. However, this celebrity had only worked with international brands before and showed no interest in collaborating with the Riggs Group.

Despite this, the group wanted to attempt negotiations. Since the project was non-urgent and had a flexible timeline, the department head considered it an ideal practice assignment for Docie. Any failure would result in minimal losses.

Once Docie understood the project, she was determined to succeed. With her prior experience working with raw material suppliers, she felt confident in her abilities.

Luck was on her side. Shortly after starting the project, she came across a blurry photo of the celebrity entering a high-end restaurant, posted by a fan.

The fan’s IP address revealed the location to be Ansport. Wasting no time, Docie pinpointed the restaurant and took a taxi there.

At the restaurant, she greeted the waiter warmly but declined his offer of assistance.

“Thanks, but I’m waiting for a friend. She hasn’t responded to my message yet, so I’m not sure if she’ll show up…” Docie’s innocent demeanor and casual sweatshirt made her story believable.

The waiter nodded politely and left.

Docie’s attention shifted to the private dining area across the restaurant.

Considering the celebrity’s wealth and need for privacy, Docie assumed she would be in one of the private rooms. Observing the staff, she waited until they were distracted before making her way toward the area.

As she strolled down the corridor of private rooms, she noticed a waiter approaching. Maintaining her composure, she acted as though she were a guest from one of the rooms.

The waiter, unsuspecting, stepped aside respectfully and continued on his way after she passed.

Scanning the opulent rooms, Docie wondered when the celebrity might emerge. Suddenly, loud, rowdy voices echoed from around the corner.

Turning, she saw a group of rich men heading her way, clearly drunk.

The man in the center was short, thin, and wore a thick chain around his neck.

Though the necklace was stylish and expensive, the man’s overall demeanor diminished its elegance. Docie instinctively moved aside to avoid the group, the overpowering scent of alcohol making her uneasy. However, the man with the chain immediately noticed her.

“Hey, check out this pretty girl,” he said, his eyes lighting up. Pushing his friends aside, he stepped in front of Docie.

Brody Moore, from the influential Patterson family in Ansport, was notorious for his partying ways. Despite holding the title of deputy general manager at the family company, he rarely worked and spent most of his time socializing.

Brody prided himself on recognizing faces he liked. One look at Docie’s modest attire told him she was just a regular college student. Fueled by alcohol, Brody stared boldly at her. His friends, catching on, egged him on.

“Come on, Brody! You like her, right? Woo her, and if you succeed, we’ll get you another bottle of wine!”

Docie’s unease grew as she tried to sidestep the group, but Brody blocked her path.

“Hey, beautiful, how old are you? Want to be my girlfriend? I’ll give you anything you want!”

“Move,” Docie said, her voice shaking.

Brody ignored her protest and stepped closer. “You don’t have a boyfriend, do you? Great! You do now. Let’s go—I’ll buy you whatever you want.”

Reeking of alcohol and overly aggressive, Brody leaned in, attempting to drape his arm around her shoulder.

Though Docie had dealt with admirers before, she had never encountered anyone as pushy as Brody. His unwanted advance unsettled her, and she instinctively stepped back.

Terrified, Docie stepped back quickly. As she looked at Brody and his smirking friends, her tears began to flow uncontrollably. Kori had told her horrifying stories about the appalling behavior of wealthy degenerates. At the time, she had dismissed those stories as distant, convinced she’d never cross paths with such despicable people. Now, that certainty crumbled.

A wave of fear swept over Docie, leaving her trembling. She kept retreating, her voice shaking as she shouted, “Don’t touch me! Stay away!”

Just then, the door to a private room opened as Dane and his business associates stepped out, their meal concluded. Docie’s voice caught his attention, and he frowned, finding the voice familiar.

Dane directed his gaze towards the source of the voice and his eyes landed on the notorious rich men, encircling a frightened young woman.

To his surprise, the woman was the new student Susan had recently taken under her wing.

“Excuse me, I need to handle a personal matter.”

Dane excused himself politely from his business partners, then walked straight toward Brody and his friends. With a firm grip, he seized their collars and effortlessly moved them aside.

These men, weakened by indulgence and excess, were no match for Dane’s imposing, athletic frame. Brody, in particular, felt utterly powerless against Dane’s commanding presence.

Brody’s temper flared when someone dared to interrupt him as he flirted with a girl. Just as he prepared to lash out, Dane positioned himself protectively in front of Docie.

“Mr. Moore, you seem quite drunk. Shall I call your brother to come and get you?”

Dane’s tone was frigid, each word cutting like ice. Brody immediately recognized Dane but couldn’t fathom why he was interfering—or threatening to involve his brother.

With an irritated scowl, he muttered, “Why do you sound like my brother, always so annoying? What’s it to you if I’m drunk?”

Sober, Brody wouldn’t have dared speak to Dane that way, but emboldened by alcohol, he ignored caution—until his friends anxiously pulled him back.

“Mr. Patton, is she someone you know?”

At those words, Brody’s hazy mind finally registered the gravity of the situation, and a flicker of unease crossed his face. Dane’s sharp eyes gleamed with a controlled, menacing intensity.

“She’s my fianc?e’s student.”

His words grew colder as they hung in the air.

Brody and his friends shuddered.

They instantly realized antagonizing Dane was a risk they couldn’t afford.

The girl, who had seemed ordinary moments ago, was now revealed as someone untouchable. Worse still, she was under the mentorship of Susan, the Riggs Group’s CEO.

Upsetting either Dane or Susan was unthinkable, but they’d managed to offend both.

Brody’s friends wasted no time, immediately begging for forgiveness. “Mr. Patton, we had no idea she was connected to you. It was all Brody—he was interested in her. We were just here for dinner.”

They quickly distanced themselves from the blame, pinning it on Brody while repeatedly apologizing to Docie.

“Miss, we’re truly sorry for any trouble we caused. Please forgive us.”

Abandoned by his friends, Brody felt a pang of betrayal but knew his brother would make things worse if this wasn’t resolved. Swallowing his pride, he added his voice to the chorus of apologies directed at Dane and Docie.

Their repeated apologies only deepened Dane’s disgust, his frown darkening.

Turning to Docie, Dane asked, “What do you want to do?”

Docie lifted her tear-streaked face to meet Dane’s steady gaze, her shock still evident. At her most vulnerable, she had silently pleaded for someone to save her. And as if answering her plea, he had appeared, a guardian angel in her moment of need.

Now, her rescuer stood before her, his voice anchoring her.

Docie pursed her lips and glanced at the wealthy young men begging before her.

The ordeal was still fresh in her mind, and part of her wanted the men to face severe consequences. Yet with Dane there, she held back her true feelings.

“You don’t need to be afraid. Whatever you decide, Susan and I will stand by you.”

Dane invoked Susan’s name to bolster Docie’s confidence, but she only shook her head.

“They’ve apologized already. Let’s leave it at that.”
