“Isabella, I tried to call you after signing the contract, but you didn’t answer. On my way to pick you up, they rear-ended me! It was chaos—you wouldn’t believe how dangerous it got.”

Nearby, Jared stood watching, his expression betraying disbelief. Was this the same Andrew he knew? The man shifted from ice-cold indifference to lovesick puppy with astonishing ease.

Isabella, however, wasn’t thinking about Andrew’s antics. Her heart clenched as she pieced together the truth behind his disheveled state. He had narrowly escaped harm, and the thought struck her like a blow.

The Vettels’ reach was long, their tactics ruthless. Whatever Andrew had endured, it was undoubtedly harrowing. Seeing him standing safely before her now, she felt relieved but also angrier than ever at Ailyn’s actions, especially since Ailyn and her uncle were still scheming to mislead everyone, confident that without solid evidence, she would be powerless to act against them.

Isabella stepped forward, placing herself between Andrew and Ailyn. Her slight frame radiated unyielding resolve, an imposing presence that belied her stature.

“Ailyn, do you really think you can sweep this under the rug? After what you did to Andrew and me?” Isabella lifted her medical kit. “Why do you think your medical team knew the craniotomy’s feasibility but didn’t dare perform it? It wasn’t just the difficulty—they knew the surgery would trigger another…”

“Lesion in your father’s body. I brought this kit to address the complications post-surgery. But now?” Her lips twisted into a sneer. “Or do you prefer to see your father lying there forever? Peaceful, isn’t it?”

Ailyn’s and her uncle’s faces paled, the weight of Isabella’s words sinking in. They had assumed that success in surgery meant the end of their troubles, but now it was clear—they had acted recklessly.

“You’re lying!” Ailyn exclaimed, shaking her head as though trying to dispel the truth. “When you discussed my father’s condition with the assistants, you never mentioned this further treatment. You’re making this up!”

Isabella’s gaze was icy, her voice unyielding. “This isn’t something those assistants could understand. Why do you think I had to bring a medical kit?”

Isabella never intended to deceive Ailyn. She had predicted that Ailyn might resort to underhanded tactics, but she hadn’t foreseen the audacity of imprisoning her or the cold-blooded attempt to murder Andrew.

After Dr. Mia’s reputation had skyrocketed, it was no secret that powerful families had covertly vied for her expertise, each plotting ways to win her over. It didn’t take much for Isabella to piece together Ailyn’s calculated intentions.

Isabella was not easily provoked, but her loved ones were her unshakable boundary—and Ailyn had shattered it without hesitation.

Dismissing Ailyn’s fractured composure, Isabella delivered yet another devastating truth.

“Whether you admit to trying to harm Andrew and me doesn’t matter,” Isabella said, her voice cutting through the tension like a whip. “You may be heartless, but I won’t sink to your level. Since the Vettel family wants to monopolize Dr. Mia’s name, fine. I’ll grant you that favor. Let’s see if you can handle the weight of it.”

Without waiting for a reply, she turned to Andrew. “It’s late. Let’s go back and get your injuries checked.”

“Sure thing.” Andrew followed her lead without hesitation, leaving Ailyn frozen in place.

As the police escorted Ailyn’s uncle to their car, Jared and Albertine joined the group. Left behind at the manor entrance, Ailyn and Nathan could only watch Isabella leave.

Inside the car, Isabella’s posture remained rigid, her aura frosty. Andrew slid closer, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. He rested his head against hers and spoke softly. “Sweetheart, don’t be mad. I exaggerated earlier. I’m fine—no injuries at all. I even had the culprits arrested. The situation was under control.”

His soothing tone melted the ice around Isabella’s heart. She turned to him, her expression softening, though her voice still carried a sharp edge. “I know you’re strong.”

“But the thought of Ailyn putting you in danger—it infuriates me. She’s utterly vile.” Andrew’s lips curled into a faint smile as he nudged his forehead against hers.

“You’re right, she is despicable. Using you in her twisted schemes? It made my blood boil. But, baby, you’ve already fought back for us. You’ve done more than enough.”

Andrew had been referring to the two bombshells Isabella had dropped on Ailyn.

The first was the harsh revelation that her father’s lingering illness was the direct result of Ailyn’s actions. The second was Isabella’s plan to unveil Dr. Mia’s true identity and link her to the Vettel family.

Countless families were tirelessly hunting for any clue to Dr. Mia’s whereabouts on the Dark Site. The moment the news of her alliance with the Vettel family broke, those who had failed to secure her favor would undoubtedly spring into action.

Whether they chose to target the Vettel family or seek their cooperation, if Isabella didn’t show up, Ailyn would inevitably offend them.

Furthermore, when those families discovered that Dr. Mia and the Vettel family’s young lady shared a strained relationship, they would surely target Ailyn to curry favor with Dr. Mia.

Since Ailyn wanted to imprison Dr. Mia for her own purposes, now she would have to bear the consequences of such a decision.

Andrew couldn’t help himself; he leaned in and let his lips gently meet Isabella’s.

“I’m happy you stood up for me, but don’t get worked up over irrelevant people. It makes me feel…” Andrew trailed off.

Isabella’s curiosity was piqued. “Feel what?”

Andrew’s gaze lingered on her striking eyes and nose before he sighed, a trace of sadness in his tone. “I feel like no matter what I do, I can’t make you happy. It makes me think I’m lacking charm… that I’m pretty useless.”

“Uh, no…” Isabella stammered, eager to refute his self-doubt but unsure of how to begin. Hesitating briefly, she opted for action over words, raising her hand to the back of Andrew’s head and letting her kiss prove whether he lacked charm or not.

After a passionate kiss, Isabella pulled away, slightly breathless, her lips now a tempting shade of red. “Do you feel the impact you have on me?” she asked, her tone unusually forward.

Andrew’s heart softened at her serious expression, a warmth blooming within him, tinged with the sweetness of their shared kiss.

His dark eyes brimmed with a smile as he intertwined his fingers with hers.

“I feel it, darling. I love you.”

Andrew let his romantic side take over, content to bask in Isabella’s presence. Yet, amidst his bliss, Andrew couldn’t ignore a lingering concern.

“Is revealing the identity too hasty?” he asked, his voice cautious. After all, Isabella had kept it hidden from the world until now.

Isabella shook her head, resolute. “Now that I’ve fallen out with Ailyn, she’s bound to use it as leverage against me later. Instead of waiting for her to threaten me, I’ll expose it myself and turn her weapon into her downfall.”

At the Vettel family’s manor, Ailyn stepped into the room where the family head lay recuperating.

“Miss Vettel.” The team of doctors monitoring her father’s condition in real-time greeted her respectfully.

Ailyn frowned, her voice tight with worry. “It’s been 24 hours since the surgery. Why hasn’t my father woken up yet?”

The doctors exchanged uneasy glances. “Miss Vettel, his vital signs are all normal… perhaps we should continue to observe.”

Ailyn’s unease deepened. Remembering Isabella’s words, she pressed further. “During your examinations, did you find any other illnesses in my father’s body?”

The doctors shook their heads. “The results were normal.” Ailyn’s fists clenched as her expression darkened. Suppressing her frustration, she finally instructed them, “Continue monitoring and inform me immediately if there’s any change.”

“Yes, Miss Vettel.”

As Ailyn left the room, she glanced at the sky outside. The overcast clouds mirrored her heavy mood.

Her father remained unconscious, her uncle had been taken to the police, and the family’s elders were worn out from both their duties and fending off scheming relatives. It felt like everything was falling apart at once.

Nathan approached her, holding an umbrella. “Miss Vettel, the forecast predicts rain. Our meeting with the partner is in an hour.”

Ailyn nodded, forcing herself to straighten. “Let’s go now.” The two walked out of the castle toward the car. As Nathan opened the rear door for Ailyn, his phone rang. He ignored it momentarily, opened the car door for Ailyn, and only after ensuring she was seated did he check his phone.

He glanced at the caller ID—it was the partner they were meeting.

“Hello, Mr. Hatcher,” the man answered respectfully.

Antwan Hatcher, the partner, spoke briefly before hanging up, offering Nathan no chance to reply. As he stood by the rear door of the car, his eyes met Ailyn’s through the half-open window.

Ailyn’s brows knitted. “Mr. Hatcher called? What did he want?”

The man hesitated before replying, his voice tinged with unease. “Miss Vettel, Mr. Hatcher wants you to bring Dr. Mia to the meeting.”

“What?” Ailyn exclaimed in disbelief. With her current strained relationship with Isabella, how could she take her to discuss a collaboration? And how did Antwan find out she knew Dr. Mia?

Nathan noticed Ailyn still didn’t get it and reminded her in a low voice, “Miss Vettel, have you forgotten what Dr. Mia said last night?”

Ailyn had been so busy since yesterday that some things had slipped her mind. When she heard Nathan’s question, she suddenly remembered what Isabella had said before leaving.

Her grip on the car door tightened, forcing herself to restrain her inner panic. She asked in a low voice, “What did she do?”

Nathan lowered his head and responded, “Mr. Hatcher said Dr. Mia praised our hospitality on the Dark Site. She said she liked us very much and was very willing to treat your father.”

After saying this, Nathan pulled up the Dark Site’s page on his phone and showed it to Ailyn.

Ailyn took the phone and found that the content on the page was the same as what Nathan had said. Also, many anonymous comments speculated Dr. Mia was currently at the Vettel family’s manor.

What a ruthless move!

Ailyn clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. The announcement was not true, but those who commented anonymously thought it was true. Antwan’s phone call was probably just the beginning.
