Lily smelled it, too.

But because Mergan had made it, she didn’t find it fragrant. It only made her feel sick.

“Lily, drink the soup.”

“I won’t!”

Lily suddenly stood up, strode forward, and slammed the bowl from his hands.

Before he could react, she had bent down and snatched a shard of the broken porcelain from the floor.

“Mergan, I fainted last time because of the incense you had someone light, wasn’t it? I doubt you’ll keep me drugged like that forever. And as long as I’m conscious, I will not be your prisoner. Let me go!”

“Lily, stop this! Put that shard down!”

Seeing her try to harm herself again, Mergan’s pupils constricted.

He instinctively moved to grab the piece of porcelain she was pressing to her neck.

But he worried that approaching her would only agitate her further, that she would cut herself as she had last time, drawing blood.

He could only soften his tone, pleading, “James is dead. You won’t see him even if you leave.

Lily, no one in this world will treat you better than I do. Stop making me angry. Stop making me sad. Please, put the shard down.”

“Let me go!”

Lily would not compromise.

She stubbornly pressed harder, and blood began to seep from the cut.

“Mergan, you aren’t being good to me, you’re trying to kill me! Even if I’m the one who cuts my own throat, if I die, you’ll be the murderer!”

“Lily, don’t do this!”

Just as Lily was about to press even harder, the door was thrown open. Bodger and Taylor rushed in.

After Lily was thrown from the cliff, Bodger and Taylor had been devastated. They dropped everything and led their own search parties.

They, too, had heard the reports of the half-eaten, unrecognizable body found in the deep sea.

At the time, like James, they had assumed it was Lily.

But after the initial wave of shock and despair, they both realized something was terribly wrong.

Their third brother, Mergan, had been conspicuously absent from the search.

They knew better than anyone how much Mergan cared about Lily.

His absence was a major red flag.

Suspicious, they had deliberately called Mergan to tell him the news about the body.

Mergan’s calm reaction had only confirmed their fears: Lily was with him.

They had their men secretly watch Mergan and finally tracked his movements.

He had been spending almost all his time at a newly purchased villa in the eastern suburbs.

They suspected Lily was there as well.

Today, they had brought a large number of bodyguards to force their way in, never expecting to find that she was, indeed, in his hands.

“Lily!”

Seeing the blood on Lily’s neck as she pressed the sharp porcelain shard against it, both Bodger and Taylor’s expressions changed.

They instinctively moved forward, wanting to grab the shard from her hand.

But seeing how unstable she was, they were terrified that any sudden move would agitate her and make the injury worse. For a moment, they didn’t dare act.

“Put that shard down!” Taylor’s eyes were filled with pain and fear. “Listen to us, don’t hurt yourself.”

Bodger’s brow was deeply furrowed. “Lily, don’t be foolish. Give me the shard.”

Bodger and Taylor were Mergan’s biological brothers.

Lily was certain they would side with that madman, and this shard was her only leverage. She wasn’t foolish enough to throw away her only defense.

Ignoring the fact that her own palm was also cut and bleeding, she gripped the shard tighter and said, one word at a time, “You have no right to imprison me. I want to go home. Let me leave!”

Now that Bodger and Taylor knew the full truth, especially after witnessing Mathilda’s attack on Luna, they both felt nothing but disgust for Mathilda and a deep ache for Lily.

Remembering how they had hurt Lily in the past, they were overwhelmed with guilt and regret. They were desperate to make it up to her. How could they possibly hold her prisoner?

They were just as furious with Mergan’s actions.

“Lily, don’t worry. I won’t hurt you. I will take you back to James.”

Once, they had favored Mathilda and, knowing she wanted to marry James, had tried to break him and Lily up.

But now, filled with remorse, they only wanted Lily to be happy with the man she loved.

“That’s right, Lily. As long as I’m here, no one will hurt you. I’ll take you home.”

After reassuring Lily, they both turned, their powerful fists flying, and struck Mergan without hesitation.

“Mergan, are you insane? Lily is our sister! How could you imprison her?”

“Don’t you know James has gone mad looking for her? What right do you have to stop her from going back to him?”

“Get out of my house!”

Mergan, who had never expected Bodger and Taylor to find him, looked murderous.

He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his face dark. “I don’t see her as my sister.”

“I’m in love with her. I want to be with her forever. Why should I let her be with someone else? If you still see me as your brother, stay out of this!”

“You really are insane!”

Hearing this, Taylor’s eyes went wide with shock.

He couldn’t believe Mergan would harbor such feelings for Lily.

When he recovered, he punched Mergan again. “Lily is our sister! You’re lusting after sister! Are you even human?!”

Bodger was just as stunned. your own

His fists clenched, and after landing a punch, he followed it with a kick. “Mergan, you’re worse than an animal!”

“Worse than an animal?”

Mergan gave a self-deprecating laugh, a terrifying, bloody darkness spreading in his eyes.
