Clark deepened their kiss, releasing all the unsaid words and pent-up longing of more than a year.
Their passionate embrace was like a storm, coming relentlessly, wave after wave. After what seemed like an eternity, Carol gasped for air, prompting Clark to pull away.
His dazed eyes still shone with undiminished affection. His handsome features were even more striking than before, though he seemed thinner, his face gaunter. Was it from the injury or out of worry for her?
He looked overall more worn out.
Carol looked at his injuries, heart heavy. “Why are you such a fool? I told you I’ve fallen for someone else. Why won’t you let go?”
“L only want you, no one else.” Clark looked at her, his eyes red and raw.
“Promise me you won’t ever leave me again?”
“But.” Carol’s eyes dimmed, her voice low. “You’ve seen the two data packages, haven’t you?”
“know.” Clark looked back at her, his voice firm. “I know the dangers ahead, and I know who you are. I don’t care. I’m not afraid. As long as you’re with me, I can handle anything.”
Carol was puzzled. “With your status, you could have anyone you want.””You’re the one I want.” Clark took her face in his hands, his words sincere. “I know what kind of person I’m looking for, and it’s you. I’m not interested in anyone else.”
He leaned in again, slowly, savoring her sweetness.
Carol let him kiss her for a while before she murmured, “You’re such a fool.”
He was the top hacker, the Clark of the Collins family. Yet, he insisted on her, the successor of a notorious organization, an orphan.
Their worlds were polar opposites, black and white, and they were not supposed to be together.
“The fool is you. Your symptoms started to show in the seventh month of our relationship, yet you didn’t let me in. I was so stupid. I noticed your odd behavior but didn’t think much of it.
Back then, during their dates, he would often find her returning from the restroom looking pale. But he didn’t think much of it, trusting her when she Said it was just her period.
“That’s because you trusted me. You believed every word I said, even my lies”
Clark looked into her eyes again, leaning in to kiss her. “I wasn’t attentive enough. From now on, I’ll pay more attention. I won’t let you bear all this pain alone anymore.”
“Clark, I don’t want to drag you down,’ Carol confessed. “This situation is too far-reaching. It’s not something we can handle on our own. Moreover, I don’t want to implicate those around you, like your sister.”
Speaking of Mirabella, Carol felt a pang of guilt.
“At first, I thought she was a spy sent by the organization, so I attacked her. Then those Chester came, and I told her to leave, but she insisted on taking me with her. She got hurt several times trying to help me. She could have escaped on her own, but she chose to carry the burden of me.”
Tears welled up in Carol’s eyes. “She was badly injured but still carried me back. I owe her so much.”
After all, they were strangers before, only connected because of Clark.
Chaper 971″Be her sister-in-law for this lifetime and treat her well then.” Clark tenderly stroked Carol’s face and said gently. “Bella likes you very much, and she’s the kind of person who is cold on the outside but warm on the inside. She doesn’t say much, but she truly cares about you.”
Clark paused momentarily before continuing, “Once you’ve gotten to know her, you’ll realize that she’s a wonderful person, easy to get along with.”
“I’ve never heard you praise Serena like this before.” Carol could see that Clark truly cherished his sister.
“They’re different,’ Clark said gently. “Bella mentioned that she and her fiance are committed to seeing this through to the end. So, let’s face this as a family. No matter what, I won’t let go of your hand this time.”
Carol looked at him and moved, “Bella said there’s about a seventy to eighty percent chance the poison in me can be cured.”
“She told your brother the same thing. If she said it, she will do it’ Clark said with a smile and confidence. “There’s no poison she can’t cure. After all, she’s Dr. Bell.”
Carol looked at him in surprise, “She’s Dr. Bell?”
The legendary Dr. Bell? The elusive and renowned physician?
“Yes.” Clark gave her an affirmative answer.
Carol was stunned. She hadn’t expected the renowned physician they’d been searching so long for to be a vibrant and beautiful teenage girl, not an old man.”So if she says there’s hope, then there is,’ Clark had utmost faith in his sister’s medical skills.
Carol hadn’t expected her luck to be this good. Not only did she reunite with Clark, but she also inadvertently found Dr. Bell to cure her poison.
It seemed her bond with Clark hadn’t ended… It was still strong.
“Bella said the poison in your body is tricky but not incurable. She needs to draw some blood for research. When she does, I’ll ask her to be gentle.”
Carol laughed, “Having blood drawn feels like a mosquito bite to me. It’s not painful.”
She’d weathered great storms, and she wouldn’t fear a tiny needle.
“Even so, be gentle” Clark caressed her hand, speaking softly, “We need to be prepared, though. The poison will take some time to heal.”
“I’ve survived a year. I don’t mind a few more months. I’ll tell Bella to treat me without worry. I trust her.”
Clark lovingly looked at her, “Let me take you upstairs to change into fresh clothes first. We’re taking a flight back home shortly.
The phrase ‘back home’ reminded Carol abruptly of her own brother, Dennis!
Oh no!
She thought she wouldn’t survive this time, so she asked her brother to check on Clark, wanting to see him one last time before she died.
“I need to make a call.” Carol reached for her phone.“Want to call your brother?” Clark asked with a soft smile. “Bella has already informed him of the situation. He’s waiting for us at home and will join us tomorrow.”
Carol was surprised, and her face turned red. Did that mean Clark knew her dying wish was to see him one last time?
Chaper 972It wasn’t long before Carol’s color seemed off, and Clark asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?”
“I’m fine.”
Seeing her huddled up, Clark anxiously asked, “Is it the poison acting up? I’ll get Bella”
“Don’t” Carol quickly grabbed Clark’s hand, her voice straining with pain, “She’s hurt. Let her rest. I can hold on”
She had survived like this before.
Countless times, when the poison acted up, she had endured it by sheer willpower.
“lL can’t stand by and do nothing. It must hurt.’ Clark tried to remove her hand.
But Carol held his hand tighter and pleaded, “Clark, I can handle it. I can’t rely on Bella every time I have an attack. The poison strikes randomly, and I have to deal with it myself.”
Seeing her writhing in pain, her voice now barely a whisper, Clark’s heart ached, “How can I help?”
“Please leave.” Carol didn’t want him to see her in such a pitiful state, “Give me some time.”
She could handle it.
“You always do this, hiding your pain from me because you don’t want me to worry. This time, let me stay with you.”
Clark gently stroked her back and other unhurt parts, trying to soothe her.But no matter what he did, the venom inside her body was something beyond her control and not something that could be eased by his gentle touch.
Carol was so much in pain that tears streamed down her face. The agonizing pain was unbearable, and her tears flowed involuntarily.
It hurt so much.
Her pain was so intense that it felt like her whole body was in agony, pushing her towards the brink of despair.
Seeing her in such agony, Clark remembered a terrifying dream he had recently, where Carol was suffering from a venom attack, crying in pain.
In his dream, he wanted to help her but was helpless, wiping her tears and holding her in his arms.
Now, he let go of Carol’s hand and ran upstairs.
In his haste, he moved so fast that he pulled his wound, but he did not care.
“Bella, Bella!!!”
He quickly reached the second floor, knocked on Bella’s door, and said anxiously, “Are you awake?
Carol’s poison is acting up. Can you help her?
She’s in great pain. Bella??”
Soon, the door opened, and Romeo appeared, carrying Bella.
“Go to my room, fourth row, count four drawers from the left, and get an acupuncture kit” Bella instructed.Clark’s mind was a blank, but hearing his sister’s words, he instinctively responded, “Okay.”
Acupuncture kit, acupuncture kit.
He rushed to get it.
Romeo carried Bella downstairs, and Clark, clutching the acupuncture kit, followed them. Carol was already sobbing on the couch.
Her tears were flowing freely, and her forehead was covered in sweat.
“Carol.” Clark wanted to comfort her, to help ease her pain.
