His eyes burned with crazed obsession, no sign of releasing her.

He licked his lips, voice low and heavy with warped desire. “I have so much to say to you. Why don’t you come to my place tonight? We can have a long, heart-to-heart talk.”

“Norman, are you insane?”

Adeline’s revulsion spiked. She snapped, “From now on, call me by my full name. We’re not close!”

“And I have no interest in talking with you. I despise you. I will never be with you. Stop pestering me!”

“Don’t be like that.”

Another rejection, yet Norman showed no anger.

His eyes still glowed with fanatical devotion.

He swallowed hard and whispered, “You’re my fianc?e. How could you not be with me? From now on, you’ll live with me. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you.”

Adeline shuddered in disgust, then raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

“Delusional! I hate you-how could I ever be your fianc?e?”

Taking advantage of his momentary shock, she tried to snatch back her hand and retreat to her house.

But Norman blocked her again, licking his lips as though savoring her touch. Even as his cheek burned red, his eyes gleamed with ecstasy, as if her slap were a gift.

“You are my fianc?e.”

The obsessive fire in his gaze sent a chill down her spine.

She was about to curse him again when he spoke with even greater madness.

“Tonight I had dinner with our mom. She’s very pleased with her future son-in-law. She even accepted the eight-hundred-eighty-thousand I gave her. I promised her I’d take care of you, and I’ll help out our little brother too.”

The “mom” he spoke of was clearly Adeline’s biological mother, Hailey.

Adeline had thought that after she hired men to smash Hailey’s apartment and beat Zhou Tianyao to a pulp, Hailey would finally stop selling her out.

She hadn’t expected Hailey to hand her over to someone new so soon.

When Norman’s trembling fingers reached to caress her face, Adeline didn’t hesitate-she kicked him hard.

“Get away from me! Hailey stopped being my mother long ago. She has no right to interfere in my life.”

“She took your money. If you want a bride, marry her instead of stalking me!”

“What nonsense are you spouting? My heart belongs only to you. How could I ever marry our mom?”

His grip tightened. He snatched away her purse, flinging it aside, then forced her back against the wall with frightening strength.

“Our brother wanted a car, and with the money I gave, our parents already bought it for him tonight. It won’t be returned. Adeline, you can’t go back on this. She took my money-so you’re mine. Even if this goes to the police, you’ll be the one at fault.”

Pressed so close, Norman could breathe in her cold, elegant scent.

He closed his eyes, inhaling greedily, his body trembling violently, eyes rimmed red with feverish excitement.

Adeline was sickened to the core by his twisted behavior.

She slapped him hard. “I cut ties with Hailey long ago. I have nothing to do with them. They took your money-what’s that got to do with me? Norman, I’ll say it again: I don’t like you, I will never marry you. Stop pestering me, or every time I see you, I’ll hit you again!”

“You smell so good…”

Norman stepped closer, breathing in her fragrance, lost in the memory of her hand striking his cheek.

Trembling, he grabbed her hand and pressed it to his face.

“Hit me again. Your hand is so soft, so fragrant. I love it…”

Revulsion swept through her, her body shaking.

She wanted to scream.

Who enjoyed being struck like this?

She struggled to pull her hand free, but he held tight, eyes closed in intoxication-then bent down and licked the back of her hand.

Her stomach turned, nearly driving her mad with disgust.

With all her strength, she kicked him hard.

“Your foot smells sweet too. I want to kiss it…”

His eyes, bloodshot with obsession, locked on her feet.

Suddenly he lunged like a starving beast, crushing her beneath him.

“I can’t hold back anymore… I want to kiss you now. Our parents already agreed to our marriage. Tomorrow we’ll get the license…”

“Get off me! I told you-I’ll never be with you!”

His weight bore down like a boulder, impossible to shove away. She was frantic, desperate.

His once decent face was now twisted by madness.

“You took my money, so you’re mine. This life, the next, forever-you belong only to me! I love you so much. As long as you stay with me, everything I have will be yours!”

His trembling hands clutched her waist as he bent toward her lips.

Adeline recoiled in horror.

She raised her hand to slap him again, harder, to jolt him awake.

But before she could, he seized both wrists and pinned them above her head.

His crazed eyes fixed on her, as if she were his only reason for existing.

His lips trembled, breath ragged with fevered excitement, as he lowered toward her face.

“Lunatic! Don’t touch me! Stay away from me, you psycho!”

“Bang!”

Adeline braced for the vile press of his mouth-but instead, Norman staggered back from a heavy punch.

Another blow landed on his face, sending him sprawling to the ground.

And then she saw who had struck him.

Victor.

“Victor…”

Norman froze in shock, never expecting Victor to interfere.

His family owned a small business, but compared to the Luke family, they were nothing.

The last thing he wanted was to cross Victor.

Still, Adeline’s mother had taken his money. That made her, in his mind, his rightful fianc?e.

Clambering up, he forced a smile. “You must be mistaken. Adeline is my fianc?e, I wasn’t bullying her. She’s just sulking-we had a small fight, that’s all. I need to coax her.”

To make his lie convincing, he added quickly, “Yes, we’re already engaged. Tonight I gave her mother eight-hundred-eighty thousand.”

Adeline’s heart sank.

She knew she and Victor could never be.

But she had once loved him in secret, and hearing Norman bring up money in front of him still burned her with shame.

She opened her lips to explain-yet Victor spoke first.

“She clearly rejected you. The one who took your money was her biological mother. The one who agreed was her biological mother. It was never her choice. You have no right to force her.”
