Lisa had only been quiet for a few minutes, and then she stated,
“Oh, he’s going to play, that you were trying to impersonate his wife to get his money, card. Like the other women did.”
“I never went near him, not once. Denied and ignored what everyone was saying about how I looked like that woman,”
Marilyn stated with a shake of her head..
“And that is what will prove him wrong. I’m going to knock that bastard off his perch,”
she chuckled,
“We’ll get him good. I bet his stupid behaviour will make his business take a dive in the stock market.”
“I don’t really care, I am leaving tomorrow Lisa, going back to Virginia with the boys, checking out early.”
Marilyn stated.
“Hmm, he’d have to come to us and apologise if we left,”
Lisa mused.
“What! I don’t want him to know where I live.”
Marilyn shook her head.
“Not even his lawyers.”
“We’ll make it at the publishing house, not your home. No one’s got that information. Your house sale, 1 believe, was even private, so not public knowledge. It might be a small state compared to some, but like eight million people live there. You’ll not be easy to find.”
“He’s got lots of money. What if he goes digging around, or hires somebody, really wants to come at me just because I look like her?”
she worried now.
“He looked irate enough about that woman, to be the crazy ex??ype
“Hmm, could well be
“Lisa sighed.
“Perhaps we should stay here for one more day and see what he plans to do. He might actually want it sorted out quickly, and then just leave you alone, if that’s the case, problem solved. I wouldn’t want to drag it out if I was him.”
Calvin
Calvin
He was sitting in the conference room of the Westin Houston Downtown Luxury Hotel, it was already out that he was coming here to formally apologize to Miss Stevens and Miss Riddley. He’d seen the trending topic from this morning. There had been many reporters outside the hotel where the two women were staying.
He’d not said anything to any of them as they’d snapped his and Wil’s photos and yelled out questions to him about why he did what he’d done. Was Marilyn Riddley, Marrin, his ex??ife? Wil had called, and attended to a press release this morning out the front of C.R. Technology headquarters. Where he made a statement on Calvin’s behalf, about them being divorced, and he had produced a copy of his and Marrin’s divorce papers from years ago,
Where he explained some of the things about what had happened all those years ago: that they’d been divorced for six weeks prior to that plane crash, that it had not been a horrible divorce, that it was amicable on both sides.
But because so many women came at him about being his deceased wife, stating they had lost their memory in the plane crash, and tried to convince him they were Marrin. Acted all loving and knew things about their married life, because he and Marrin had been in the papers all the time.
They all tried to claim they were his wife, when in fact none of them knew they were actually divorced. Because both he and Marrin had opted to keep it quiet. He’d also stated Calvin had loved his wife very much, it was simply that their lives had just moved on from each other, as so many out there did, in different directions.
But Calvin was guilt??idden about her plane crashing, because he had taken her to the airport and put Marrin on that plane to Italy himself. It had been an all??xpenses paid holiday to her favourite place, and was part of their divorce agreement. This was what set Calvin’s anger off about women that looked like Marrin, and then one turned up here in Huston, and he’d honestly just had enough and wanted to confront the woman. Then actually seeing Miss Riddley for himself, who looked so much like Marrin, even to Calvin, that, of was in fact Marrin, she was the first woman he’d seen that actually could course, he wanted to know if sh possibly be Marrin in his eyes.
That, what had happened yesterday, had been a terrible mistake on Calvin’s part, that he’d only tried to just grab Miss Riddley by the collar to stop her from walking away from him. When he was just trying to clarify if she was or wasn’t Marrin, who to this day was considered still missing, she’d not died in the plane crash, had in fact never gotten on the plane they now knew.
That, this was a very unusual set of circumstances, that had led to an unfortunate incident between Calvin and Miss Riddley. It had he knew been broadcast live to the public, Wil had only answered a few quest ones that confirmed what he’d stated in that press release and nothing more. Then he’d just walked aw… wouldn’t be drawn into anything at all.
Now, Calvin sat waiting on Miss Riddley and Miss Stevens to come into this room. He and Wil had been here for nearly 10 minutes now.
“They’re making you wait on purpose,”
Will had stated as they sat there at the table.
“To try and instigate your anger once more, show the world you’re a nasty piece of work. Like Miss Stevens has portrayed you to those out there following the trending topics, they will also record this meeting
( as we will be, so neither side can put out a doctored audio recording to harm the other’s reputation.”
Calvin just nodded, he couldn’t leave the room until he’d formally apologised, but he had another agenda himself where Miss Riddley was concerned, and today was the day he was going to confirm she was, in fact, Marrin, a body couldn’t lie. Marrin had a specific??ooking birthmark, and he was out to check that for himself. He’d not told Wil, the man would lose it, and have him sent from the room, call him crazy. But he really did need to know if she was Marrin. It was, it seemed, literally driving him insane, not knowing what had happened to her.
The two women walked into the conference room five minutes later, with a tall man leading the way. He already knew it was their lawyer. He’d flown in from New York. Apparently, Miss Steven’s family owned a law firm, and that law firm also represented the publishing house, and therefore Miss Riddley as well
His eyes moved to the woman in question, Marilyn/Marrin, and he looked her over. Today she was wearing a long white pleated skirt that fell to her ankles and a long??leeved black fitted top that had a white rolled down off the shoulder section, that was peeled down and sat neatly at the top edges of her shoulders, a full matching outfit.
Her hair was pulled up and swept back from her face in a simple, but he thought elegant ponytail style that fell straight down her back. She was again wearing make??p; similar to yesterday, and she was wearing black heels.
He stood as she walked across the room, and she was the right height to be Marrin as well. Though her eyes landed on him as he stood, it was only briefly, and they were dismissive as she sat herself across from Wil. She looked right at him and there was no recognition in her eyes for even Wil, a man she knew quite well, because she’d liked Anabell, his fianc?.
He sat only when she did, and she didn’t once bother to look at him, though she did turn her attention to Lisa and their lawyer, who introduced himself as one Hamilton Stevens of Evans & Stevens Law Firm, and he heard Wil huff a little. This man was Lisa’s older brother. That is what that huff meant.
It didn’t go unnoticed by Hamilton either; A slight smile touched his face, as he placed his briefcase on the table and opened it. Wil was already set up, had a file in front of him and his laptop was open, and on the table next to him, for him to make adjustments to the papers he’d drawn up and wanted to be signed by all parties about accepting Calvin’s apologies and dropping the charges, if they could come to an agreement that was.
“I’d like to start by offering my apologies; I’m sorry for the incident that happened yesterday afternoon,”
Calvin stated before anyone in this room could get into anything.
“I was a bit on the distressed side yesterday, and not at all myself.”
he looked to both women, and they were both looking at him now
“I’m certain you are all now aware, of the reason why I was not myself.”
