She remembered seeing Victor. And kissing him.

Or… was that just a dream?

Please let it have been a dream, she begged silently.

Her eyes flew open. She sat up quickly, checking herself. Her clothes were in place, her body felt fine. Relief eased her chest.

Then she heard movement. She turned-and saw Victor standing at the window.

Their eyes met.

Adeline pinched herself hard. It hurt.

Which meant he was real.

And if Victor was really here with her, then last night hadn’t been a dream at all.

She really had kissed him. Drunkenly, shamelessly… she had actually taken advantage of him.

Thinking about how she had clawed at his chest and abs, even lifted her skirt and sat on top of him, Adeline felt so ashamed that even her toes curled uncontrollably.

She desperately wanted to pretend she had blacked out.

But when she looked at him, she clearly saw a small tear on his lip.

That was where she had bitten him last night.

Adeline couldn’t believe it-drunk as she was, she had actually forced a kiss on a man.

Having done something so outrageous, she didn’t have the face to play dumb.

After a long silence, she finally whispered, “Vi…”

Realizing that back in school, he probably hadn’t even noticed someone like her, she quickly changed her words. “Mr. Luke, thank you for saving me last night.”

“It’s nothing.”

Victor pressed down all his emotions, his voice flat as he said, “Last night, my sister-in-law got a call from you. She was worried, and since I happened to be nearby, I went to the Flora Club with some people.”

Adeline knew very well that she owed last night to Lily.

Otherwise, Victor never would have come to her rescue.

And yet, after he saved her, she had kissed and touched him, even bitten his lip. She was lower than a beast.

Her feet tensed, and like a scolded schoolgirl, she lowered her head and whispered, “Last night I was forced to drink a lot, my mind wasn’t clear, and I may have done some disrespectful things to you. I really didn’t mean it. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Victor didn’t answer immediately.

Of course he knew she hadn’t meant it.

At first, when her hand roamed over his chest and abs, it was because she thought he was Lily.

Later, when she sat on his lap and forced a kiss, she had mistaken him for another man.

…

He pressed at his chest inconspicuously and said coolly, “I’ve already forgotten what happened last night.”

He had already forgotten…

Adeline let out a small breath of relief.

But for some reason, her heart felt a little empty.

She couldn’t help but think back to that other night when the two of them had been entangled.

That night, swept away by desire, he had said he would take responsibility for her. But in truth, he already had a beloved fiancée.

And since he hadn’t woken up by the time she left the guest room, he probably never knew that the woman that night had been her. She wasn’t going to bring it up again.

That night of madness… she would just treat it as a foolish dream.

Last night, Victor had first gone to the private room where her phone had been left, then found her afterward.

He had also brought her phone back. It was now sitting on the bedside table.

The silence in the room felt suffocating.

Just then, her phone chimed with a notification. She grabbed it quickly, pretending to check her messages to hide her embarrassment.

It was from Marilyn.

“Do you have time today?”

Before she could reply, Marilyn sent several more messages: “I’ve been throwing up badly lately, and my period is late. I just took a test-two lines. I think I’m pregnant with Victor’s baby. I want to go to the hospital for confirmation. After that, I’d like to buy some baby things. You have good taste. I’m sure the baby Victor and I have will love what you pick. Can you come with me?”

Adeline clenched her phone so tightly her hands hurt. Even breathing felt like pain.

The night she and Lily went on the show, the scene had been too chaotic, and she had been too far from Victor to hear him reject marrying Marilyn.

To her, he was Marilyn’s fiancé. They were deeply in love and about to marry.

And yet hearing that Marilyn was pregnant still cut her heart to shreds.

And last night, in her drunken haze, she had been the other woman.

The shame and humiliation were unbearable. She didn’t know how to face either Victor or

Marilyn.

There was no way she could go with Marilyn to her prenatal checkup or baby shopping. With trembling fingers, she typed back, “I’m busy,” and hastily tossed her phone aside.

Victor, lost in his own thoughts, didn’t notice the strangeness in Marilyn’s words.

What filled his mind were the words she had called him last night-those tender, affectionate cries of “senior.” They still pierced his ears like a spell, clinging to his mind, gripping his heart.

He knew, even if last night she had mistaken him for someone else and kissed him on her own, their relationship was hardly any closer than strangers.

He had no right to involve himself in her private matters.

Yet the sourness in his chest made him lose control.

“Last night, you kept calling out ‘senior’… Was that your boyfriend? Do you like him that much?”

“I…”

Adeline had never even had a boyfriend in her life.

The “senior” she had secretly admired all along was him.

But the values she had grown up with, her education, didn’t allow her to become a shameless mistress. There was no way she would confess her feelings to a man who was already promised to another.

And

So, she gave no thought at all to his question.

Adeline thought Victor’s question about her private life was nothing more than polite concern, the kind someone would show to a friend of his sister-in-law.

Or maybe he thought she already had a boyfriend and still shamelessly kissed him, and that he was expressing his disapproval of her behavior.

After a long silence, she finally whispered, “Yes, he’s my boyfriend. I really like him.”

So she really did have someone she loved deeply.
