She thought of Grace as a friend.

Since her release from prison, she had left her hometown to avoid Martin

Weiss and cut off ties with all her former friends. It was safe to say that she only had a few friends around her now.

The only person she could call a friend was Grace!

“Thank you, Kyla. Don’t worry. I’ll be alright,” said Grace before finally ending the call.

‘Yeah, I’ll be alright. I just got my heart broken again. I just fell from heaven to hell yet again.

‘No, it’s not hell. At least it’s better than the last time I was wrongly imprisoned.

‘Now, at least I’m free to go wherever I want and do whatever I want!

‘Instead of just sitting in jail where I get punched and kicked, having to live every day in fear!’

Grace looked at the phone that was in her hand. It was her old phone from before.

She had broken the new phone Jason bought her on the hill yesterday, so she put her sim card back into the old phone she had switched from but could not bear to throw away.

Look, in the end, she left as she came, Her phone, clothes, luggage, shoes, and socks were all her old belongings.

She was like Cinderella, getting beaten back to her true self once it was past midnight!

Just then, a silver-grey Porsche pulled to a temporary stop near the bus stop. Lina

Sweeney got out of the car quickly and ran up to Grace. “Grace, you…”

Lina Sweeney’s eyes turned red as she looked at her friend who was dressed in old clothes and had two suitcases at her feet!

‘It’s Grace’s birthday today! It’s supposed to be a happy day for Grace!

‘However, why did this happen to my best friend?’

Grace slowly raised her head and looked at Lina Sweeney with a faint smile.

“There you are. I… moved out of Reed

Residence, but… I don’t know where to go.”

Her smile made Lina Sweeney even sadder. “Come on. Get in the car first,”

said Lina Sweeney. After all, the bus stop was not a place for conversation.

Hadwin Stephenson got out of the car and helped Grace carry the two suitcases into it.

Lina Sweeney pulled Grace into the backseat of the car.

In the car, Lina Sweeney said nothing but squeezed her best friend’s hand tightly.

Grace’s hand was so cold when it was clearly the hottest season of the year.

Grace had nowhere to go. Her rental house had long since been surrendered.

Hadwin Stephenson found a hotel for Grace to let her stay at temporarily.

However, Grace asked Hadwin

Stephenson to book her a cheap inn instead.

“Inns don’t have a nice environment.

Hotels have a better environment,” said

Lina Sweeney.

“I can only afford an inn with the money I have right now,” said Grace.

Lina Sweeney hurriedly said, “If you’re worried about not having enough money, I can-”

“Lina, thank you for your kindness, but I want to do this on my own,” said Grace.

‘Yes, I have to rely on myself to survive in this world!’

Lina Sweeney opened her mouth, but in the end, she said nothing. She knew that her best friend had her pride!

After booking the inn, Lina Sweeney asked Hadwin Stephenson to buy some food. Then in the room, she asked her best friend what exactly happened and why she broke up with Jason for no reason.

“He said he was tired and didn’t want to love me anymore. He never really believed me throughout this relationship.” Grace smiled bitterly and said in self-mockery, “I guess I’m not suited for a relationship after all!”

“Grace, don’t smile like that. It makes me sad when you smile like that.” Lina

Sweeney suddenly hugged her and said,

“Grace, just cry if you want to cry. Aren’t we best friends? I’ll be on your side no matter what!

“Jason hurt you. I’ll help you find a better boyfriend and you can piss him off when the time comes!

“Don’t keep all your grievances and sadness in your heart. Vent it out whenever you have to!”

Lina Sweeney kept saying.

Grace leaned on her best friend’s shoulder and felt that the coldness in her body was finally fading away now.

‘My lifeline is Lina after all!

‘How am I ever gonna repay Lina for being so kind to me?’

“I… can’t cry. I must’ve finished all my tears,” murmured Grace.

“You…”

“Alright, Lina. I’m not as fragile as you think. It’s just having my heart broken. It’s not like it’s never been broken before,”

said Grace.

Lina Sweeney sighed and looked at her best friend who was in front of her. Then, in a tone of mock relief, she said, “You’re right. It’s only having your heart broken. It’s no big deal! It’s just losing one guy. There’ll be a better one!”

‘A better one?’ Grace’s eyes dimmed. ‘I’m afraid I’ll never have the courage to date for the third time.

‘I may be doomed to a lonely life.!

Lina Sweeney helped Grace pack her bags and waited until Hadwin Stephenson came with the dinner he bought. They then ate dinner with Grace.

When Hadwin Stephenson came up, he even bought a cake and birthday candles.

Lina Sweeney put the candles on. The candles formed the digits ’28’, and the colors looked so bright.

“Alright, we can finally eat your birthday cake together. Make a wish, Grace!” said

Lina Sweeney. Even though today was a bad day, she still hoped that Grace could spend her birthday well.

At least she had someone to share the cake with on her birthday.

‘Wish… Grace looked at the candles. ‘My wish was to grow old with Jason, have children with Jason, and have a happy family together.

‘But my wish now…’ She closed her eyes

‘I want to forget about him and this relationship from the bottom of my heart.

From now on, I want to forget about the man named Jay. Emerald City only has

Jason!’

Having made her wish, Grace slowly opened her eyes and looked at the burning candle before blowing the flame out.

“I’ll cut the cake,” she said as she cut three slices of cake and gave them to

Lina Sweeney, Hadwin Stephenson, and herself.

Picking up the cake, Grace ate it mouthful by mouthful.

The cake… should be sweet, but it tasted so bitter in her mouth.

After eating the cake, Lina Sweeney cleaned it up. She planned to stay, but Grace said, “You don’t need to accompany me. I want to be alone and have a good rest.”

Lina Sweeney hesitated a little before saying, “Alright then. Have a good rest! I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Yes.” Grace nodded. Looking at her best friend’s worried expression, she smiled again and said, “Lina, I’m fine.”

This smile made Lina Sweeney feel even more bitter.

After leaving the hotel, Lina Sweeney got into Hadwin Stephenson’s car with a frown on her face.
