“Yes.”

“Okay.”

He was silent the rest of the way home, only asking me to be careful every time he thought I was going to step on a rock or something. When we reached my place, I didn’t stop, walking towards the door. But he caught my wrist to stop me.

I turned to him, ignoring the tingles shooting up my arm.

“What?”

“Wait,” he said softly, his gaze gentle. He stepped closer to me, and offered me a soft smile. “I had fun walking with you. Thanks for letting me.”

Warmth spread through my chest. I swallowed. “I didn’t let you.

You forced it.”

“Still. You were civil enough.”

“You’re welcome, I guess. Can I go now?”

Zane glanced behind me, and then quickly let go of my hand. I turned around to find Mom at the door, watching us.

“Good evening, Mrs. Snow,” he greeted, stepping closer to her.

Mom did not look too happy to see him. She forced a smile. “Hello, Zane.”

Mom knew who he was ever since we were children. And due to all the bullying, she wasn’t much of a fan.

“How have you been?” he asked, flashing her his best smile.

“Good,” she said curtly.

Zane nodded. “That’s great.”

“You came to walk Lia home?” she asked.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Don’t you have a car?”

I bit my lip at her question.

“I do, ma’am. But given our history, Lia didn’t want to get into it.”

“Lia is smart,” she smiled. “But you aren’t. She walks back home often, you wasted your time.”

“I know she does, ma’am. I just wanted to talk to her.”

“About what?” She pushed, crossing her arms.

Now Zane glanced at me. I opened my mouth to lie, but he beat me to it.

“I needed her help, actually.”

“With what?”

“English. She’s the smartest girl in class, and we have to write a really lengthy essay.”

“Oh, an essay. Emotions involved, I’m guessing,” Mom commented.

“Yes, ma’am. A lot of them.”

“Unfortunately, even my daughter won’t be able to help you here, Zane. After all, she can’t give you something you don’t have.”

I bit my tongue, glancing at Zane to decipher if he was offended. I wanted my parents away from them. I didn’t know what I’d do if these werewolves tried to hurt them.

But Zane smiled, glancing at me. “You have no idea,” he said softly.

“Good bye, Zane,” I said quickly, before they could exchange another dialogue, I marched to the door and shot Mom a look, entering the house. The second she came back inside, I closed the door shut, locking it. “You didn’t have to do that,” I whispered.

“Why were you walking home with him? Did he try to do anything?”

A lot, actually. But I couldn’t tell her that.

“No, Mom. I’m fine. Nothing happened.”

“Are you really going to help him with this essay?”

“No, I won’t,” I reassured, taking her shoulders. “Please relax. You don’t have to worry. I know how to handle Zane Adams now.”

“I mean he was always an easy one, but being near him invites the rest of them too, Lia. Warner and Ajax Hale. I am not going to let them inside my house,” she decla

“They’re not going to come,” I reassured. “Please Trust me. I got this covered.”

I think. relax, will you?

Mom stared at me with a deep frown, then visibly relaxed. “Okay. I have faith that you can handle yourself now. But I would suggest you carry a pepper spray around.”

“Those aren’t allowed at school.”

“Your stupid school and its stupid rules.” She rolled her eyes.

I smiled, pulling her into a hug. “I love you so much. Thank you for looking out for me.”

“I love you too. That Blake boy is fine, but I don’t want Zane Adams at my front door ever again, you hear me?”

I wanted to laugh.

“He won’t be.”

He’ll be at the window, I thought. Of my bedroom.

‘Good.” She nodded. “Are you hungry? How was your day?”

“Eventful.”

BLAKE’S POV

I let out a growl the second I walked in through my front door, and tossed the stupid bag across the room.

No matter how hard I tried, that piece of shit Zane Adams always stole the show. First he showed up inside her house before I could, and now he’d created misunderstandings. between us. Lia was a human, not a werewolf. She didn’t understand how this world worked. The risks you had to take, the sacrifices you had to make sometimes.

I punched the wall, making a hole in it.

But it wasn’t enough to calm me down. So I did the only thing I could think of.

I transitioned into my wolf form and leapt outside the house, rushing towards the forest.

The run always calmed me down. It helped connect me to mother nature, it helped me feel like my true self.

It was exhausting, trying to act and live like humans. That wasn’t us. We were meant for much greater things.

Surviving in this world like a human was starting to feel better when Lia came along. And then even that had to be stolen away from me. I left my home, I entrusted my pack to someone else, just to get to her. Just so I could return with my pack’s Luna. But Zane Freaking Adams inserted himself in between.

I wasn’t going to let him win this.

If he thought he would take her away from me by using cheap tricks and manipulation, he was wrong.

Lia Snow was my mate. And she’d become my Luna, not his.

I wasn’t like him. I wasn’t afraid to embrace who I was. I was a werewolf; sharper, stronger and more clever than humans. Zane Adams had lowered himself to their standards, thinking he was the big bad wolf just because he annoyed a few of them.

But I was an actual Alpha. And I was going to show him and Lia what that meant.

There was no way I was giving her up.

She was created for me, and I would have her. Whether she liked it or not.

A WEEK LATER

-LIA’S POV-

“Miss Snow!”

I snapped out of my chain of thoughts, like I’d been woken from a dream. Immediately, I stood up from my seat, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. My heart pounded in my chest, as the classroom filled with amused snickers.

“Where are you?” Mrs. Dylon asked, staring at me with utter exasperation on her face.
