Wil muttered.

“That will look great on your public profile, do wonders for the company as well.”

He shook his head.

“That stays been you and Marrin, myself… We’ll just say over the last few months of your marriage the two of you drifted apart. Or she wanted a new career, and you said no, so it tore a rift between you two.”

“Oh, so it’s my fault now that we got divorced.”

Calvin grated out angrily, and knew the moment he said those words that he shouldn’t have.

“Sorry.”

He muttered at Will’s almost incredulous look at him. Because it was actually his fault and he did actually know that.

“I do seem to be having an issue with all this right now. Like you said.”

He shook his head, because he felt so very confused right this minute.

“Oh, I know that,”

Wil muttered.

“The problem is how do we fix it.”

“Who the hell knows, Wil?”

Calvin sighed and scrubbed a hand over his face.

“Mediation with Ms Riddley, I will need to apologise, and in person. To make it sincere and show I mean it.”

“I’ll see what I can do. But you need to make an official statement here first. The police are not going to release you until you answer their questions. I advise you to be honest, that you were confused. That much I do know. Play that card, not only because it’s your best defense right now, I actually think it’s true. In more ways than one.”

“I’ll be getting charged then?”

he asked.

“Yes, though mediation could see it rescinded before it goes to court and then, if that happens, everything will blow over and go away. So yes, apologising is going to be the best option.”

He nodded and stared at Wil for a long moment.

“You really don’t think she’s Marrin.”

“I don’t. I also know she’s got a family, children of her own. There was nothing about how old they were or if they were boys or girls. She’s actually never really been in the spotlight before, and doesn’t want to be. Appears to be a bit of a recluse, and as far as I can tell, Marilyn Riddley has never resided in Houston, owned no properties here, not even back then. There’s not even a car registered in her name here in Texas. I dare say the woman has lived all her life in Virginia.”

“Right… that is not going to help my cause, throwing the spotlight on her, so to speak, when it’s som she avoids.”

Calvin huffed, he’d royally screwed this one up.

“No, likely to just make her go back to her home and be even more reclusive,”

Wil nodded.

“Apologise, be remorseful and think about compensation. You’ll, of course, have to pay for all of Lisa Steven’s medical bills, and Ms Riddley’s as well. Though from all the reports, Miss Riddley was fine.”

“I never meant to grab her hair. I was aiming for her collar. She must have ducked hand, and I got her hair instead.”

“I can look at the footage and see if that happened,”

Wil stated.

“The compensation Calvin?”

“I don’t know, I guess half of what they are asking for. Because who known what it will be,”

he murmured.

“Alright, we’ll wait on that, see if they produce a number”

Wil nodded.

“They will, seeing as who I am. They will come at me with a monetary surn. It will be large, possibly ridiculous In amount.”

He’d seen it all before. Even a slight fender??ender saw people out there claiming their car was ridden off in order to get a new one. This would be no different to that, he supposed.

“Send the officers in. I’m calm and ready to talk,”

Calvin finally stated,

“and I need to get out of here to deal with what is being posted everywhere.”

He made his statement, about yes, he’d gone to the book store because he was curious about the woman that looked like his wife. He wanted to know if it was her. That led him to have to tell the police Marrin wasn’t deceased, that he’d found out after the fact, of the plane crash, she’d never gotten on the plane to Italy at all. So, he was simply trying to find out if she was or wasn’t Marrin, Because he had no idea where she was at all, that they’d divorced and she’d completely vanished. That yes, he’d waited outside the bookstore to talk to her, but she wouldn’t talk to him. That it had unfortunately made him angry. Because she, he’d believed, was in fact Marrin, and she wouldn’t admit to it.

Then he’d had to explain his reasons for his thoughts about believing why she was Marrin, that her it was all handwriting was the same, the way she smiled, the colour of her eyes, even the perfume she wore, the same as Marrin’s. That he’d not meant to pull her hair, and Wil had actually produced that footage.

It showed she had ducked out of the way of his outstretched arm, and his hand to grab her collar had gotten him a fist full of her hair, that he’d not actually meant to do that, that it was an accident, and he would, of course, apologise to her.

As for Miss Stevens, he’d not meant to injure her at all, he’d simply tried to make her let go of him, and not realised he’d used so much force in shaking her off himself, or that she was so unsteady on her feet. Again, he would apologise and admit he was in the wrong. That he wanted mediation with the women.

She was not getting any sleep, and she knew it. Nor was Lisa, because she was in here in Marilyn’s hotel room, and though Callum and Vincent were asleep in their room, and the door was closed. She’d had to shush Lisa twice already now, as she started to rant a bit. Both boys had still been up when they’d gotten back to the hotel, and they had seen Lisa’s broken arm in its cast.
