But now, the sight of it only filled her with revulsion.

That ring reminded her of how she had once held out her true heart, only to have it tossed aside, trampled, wasted.

“John.”

Lily smiled.

She was devastatingly beautiful when she smiled-like the sun breaking through clouds, like spring blossoms in full bloom, breathtaking.

But the sharp irony gleaming in her eyes was so piercing that the fragile hope rising in John’s gaze shattered, crumbling inch by inch.

Sure enough, he heard Lily say, “What makes you think I’d want a wedding ring Elsa once wore? Because you’ve got a pig’s brain? That diamond ring Elsa wore disgusts me. The man Elsa used disgusts me even more! John, you’re truly disgusting!”

“Lily…”

After throwing those words at him, Lily didn’t stay another second.

Feeling James’s stubborn grip locking their fingers tightly together, her lips suddenly stung. She quickly, obediently tightened her grip in return, leaving without looking back.

Lily was already gone.

John was still kneeling on one knee, as if his soul had left his body.

Only when Lily’s footsteps faded into nothing did his fingers tremble. The diamond ring in his hand slipped helplessly to the ground.

Yes, what right did he have to think a ring once placed on Elsa’s finger could win her back?

What right did he have to think she would want a heartless man who had let her down again and again, always for Elsa’s sake?

If he hadn’t abandoned her for Elsa, if he hadn’t doubted her again and again, the twins in her belly would have been his.

If he hadn’t gone behind her back to hold a wedding with Elsa, the one entwining fingers with her now should have been him.

They should have had children together. They should have grown old together.

They should have been happy. So very happy.

But because of one disastrous choice, he had lost her completely. He had lost his own happiness completely.

John had always been proud, untouchable.

But now, he no longer cared about the crowds coming and going, no longer cared about the pointing fingers. He pressed his face in his hands and sobbed like a child.

He knew he had committed an unforgivable sin.

Tue, Sep

He was consumed by agony, drowning in regret.

What could he possibly do to make her willingly return to him?

Did it really mean that only if James disappeared completely, would she give him another chance?

“Ugh…”

James parked his car in the hospital’s underground garage.

After carefully carrying Lily to the back seat, he didn’t return to the driver’s seat. Instead, he suddenly bent down, his lips crashing onto hers in a burning, urgent kiss.

That dense, scorching kiss, like countless times before, instantly stole her breath, turning her body soft and helpless like flowing water.

“Don’t…”

His sudden move startled Lily.

Though his car windows were specially treated-clear from inside but opaque from outside- it was still a public parking garage. For him to kiss her here made her so ashamed her toes curled up uncontrollably.

“James, behave, you…”

She wanted him to stop messing around.

This afternoon, she had rehearsal at the TV station, and that evening, a live broadcast.

She couldn’t go onstage with lips swollen like sausages.

That would be humiliating.

But it seemed he was deliberately going against her.

The more she told him to behave, the wilder he became.

The more she told him not to bite, the more he seemed intent on marking every, inch of her lips and skin.

The coat she had worn was already tossed aside.

He knew she still had to be at the station soon, so he didn’t ruin her long dress.

But with steady, restless hands, he unfastened one button after another down the front of her dress. His restraint and loss of control, clarity and descent into desire, carried such a dangerous allure that Lily forgot, for a moment, to stop him.

Only when the neckline was fully open did she realize what that seemingly cold and self- controlled hand was doing.

Blushing furiously, she grabbed his hand. “I… I need to get to the station, you should drive, I..” Her protest dissolved into another muffled sound.

He had no intention of driving.

Instead, he bent down again, seizing her lips with unrelenting hunger.

She tried desperately to keep some distance.

She would need makeup soon-she didn’t want the artist asking why her lips were swollen.

But he held the back of her head firmly. There was no space between them. She felt like a helpless lamb caught in the jaws of a ravenous wolf, utterly unable to escape his grip.

Inside, Lily couldn’t help cursing John.

It was all John’s fault, that cursed man!

If he hadn’t brought up Bob and Dawn, would James be this furious, kissing her like he wanted to swallow her whole?

Her eyes had been blind before-how could she have ever treated that cursed man like treasure?

“Stop… stop kissing me, we really can’t…”

Her body was weak and trembling under his relentless affection, her peach-blossom eyes shimmering with tender waves.

She struggled to resist in broken gasps.

But the more she tried, the more he refused to let go. His voice dripped with jealousy, “Bob, Dawn?”

So he really had come to settle accounts.

The sour taste of jealousy was so thick in the car she thought it might drown her. How could she dare push him away now?

To avoid being buried under that suffocating jealousy, she ignored the risk of swollen lips. She hooked her arms around his neck, and when their lips parted for the briefest breath, she tilted her face upward, offering her lips back to the wolf’s hungry mouth.

Lily coaxed him softly, inching closer bit by bit. “There’s no Bob, no Dawn. I… I was young and foolish back then, blind enough to throw all my feelings at John. That dog is already in the past. James, you are my present and my future. James, I only love you.”

She thought that after saying this, he would finally calm down.

But his dark, sharp eyes only grew deeper.

An endless desire, blazing with fire, poured out of them and nearly swallowed her whole.

Her heart gave a sharp jolt. The next second, his hands seized her waist and lifted her onto him.

His presence was powerful, domineering, hungry. Yet his voice carried an almost childlike grievance.
