“Oh, my beautiful girl, Sophia!” She pulled me into a hug.
I hugged her back. She was a really close friend of my mother.
Her eyes shifted toward Troy, and they immediately brightened. “Did you both come together?”
He nodded at her. She chuckled and stepped aside to let us enter my house.
“Where is mom?” I asked her.
“She is in the kitchen. Go and freshen up. I am going to inform her that two have come.”
“Okay.”
I went to my room and took a quick shower. I put on a yellow T-shirt and a long white skirt. Then I left my room and went downstairs.
I saw my mom sitting with Aunt Sabrina and Troy on couches. They were all talking to each other. When they noticed me, I went to join them.
Aunt Sabrina told me how her husband died a few years ago, but then my mom supported her. She said my mom was like her sister, so she cared for my mom a lot. I felt happy that my mom had good friends.
During the dinner, Aunt Sabrin asked me,
“You are eighteen now. Have you not found your mate yet?”
I bit my lower lip and shook my head. “No.”
Though I had a mate, I was forbidden to reveal it to others.
Aunt Sabrina glanced at her son and said,
“Troy also hasn’t found his mate.”
I could understand where the conversation was going. I finished my food hurriedly and stood up, then said,
“Mom, I am going to wash my plate.”
When I walked to the kitchen, I heard Troy’s voice behind me.
“I am also done. I think I should help her.”
I entered the kitchen with Troy following me.
The situation was awkward. We were washing our dishes silently. We could hear our mother’s laughter and conversations coming from the dining room.
Troy broke the silence as he spoke out.
“Please don’t mind her. My mom is just worried about my future. But I don’t have that kind of intention to come here.”
I looked at him and felt relieved after hearing him.
“That’s good for me.”
He extended his hand and said,
“But we can be friends, right?”
I glanced at his hand and nodded my head.
“Yeah.”
I accepted his hand and replied,
“Friends.”
The following day, I woke up early, as usual. I went to my university in time to attend my classes.
During the break, Sara and I strolled around our campus while talking to each other.
“So he said he would never reject you?” Sara asked me.
“Hmm.”
“Why?”
“He said he doesn’t want to lose his position,” I replied while looking at a few girls who were roaming around Luisa.
Everyone was giving her too much attention because she had just started the internship at the ‘Morrison Group.’
Luisa did not fail to grab more attention as she told everyone how the first day was and how everyone was so nice to her. She even lied, saying that Bryan himself congratulated her for winning the competition.
“I think he lied to you.” I heard Sara.
I turned my head to her and asked,
“What did he lie to me about?”
Sara chuckled as she thought about something and walked to the benches close to the basketball court.
We sat on a bench to have some relaxing conversation.
“If my guess is not wrong, then he did not want to reject you for himself.”
“What?”
“Yeah. Can you resist the mate bond? No, right? Then he is not different from you. He surely feels it, too. So I think he also doesn’t want to break it.”
Looking at the boys who were playing basketball, I shook my head.
“Not at all. Have you forgotten who you are talking about?”
“Yup. The Alpha Bryan Morrison. But at the end of the day, he is a wolf who wants his mate.”
I closed my eyes and felt the sunlight over me. I took in the fresh air inside me as I deeply breathed in.
“I don’t like him, nor did he. I always thought there must be a solution since both of us don’t want the bond. But when he said that there was no hope, I felt broken. I mean, what now? Will I be alone forever?”
Sara wrapped her hands around me and hugged me tightly.
“Don’t worry, baby. He will be your boyfriend soon.”
I pulled away from the embrace and looked at her. “What? No way.”
She cleared her throat and wiggled her brows. “What about getting another boyfriend and showing your arrogant mate that you have a boy who wants you?” I rolled my eyes and laughed at her words. “That man can never feel jealous. In fact, talking about him, I feel like I am desperate for him. I am not. It’s just my wolf…”
I paused when my eyes fell on Luisa coming in our direction. My eyes shifted to the man she was following.
“Why is Bruce coming here?” Sara mumbled with a scowl on her face.
I looked away when Bruce’s eyes met mine.
“Bruce, please. Listen to me. Why are you doing this to me?” Luisa shouted at him when he ignored her.
Everyone around them was stunned. Sara and I glanced at each other and then got to our feet.
The atmosphere did not stay calm as Bruce’s steps halted. He slowly turned to Luisa, giving her a furious glare.
Luisa realized what she had just done. No one had the audacity to talk to Bruce like that on our campus.
Luisa strode to him and started to tear up. “Bruce, I am so sorry. I did not want to do something like that. I just want to say, Why are you behaving like this? Why are you still angry with me? Didn’t you say that I knew your desire really well? Then why are you not coming to me?”
Bruce glanced at me when Luisa had just said that. I scoffed and rolled my eyes intentionally.
“Both of them are cheaper,” I uttered under my breath.
I grabbed Sara’s hand and said,
“Let’s go from here.”
She held my hand and muttered, “Wait. Let’s see that fake princess’s downfall. I think Bruce did not want her to say such a thing in public. That shameless girl is going to get scolded for her nasty desire.”
I was about to say to her that I did not want to, but I stopped when I saw Bruce push Luisa in front of everyone.
Luisa almost fell to the ground, but her friends saved her from falling.
“HOW DARE YOU COME TO ME?” Bruce yelled at her.
I was shocked by his yell. He was a calm guy. I had seen him only a few times this angry. The last time I talked about my mate, he got angry like that.
In the last month, he did not come across to me much, as I never wasted my time on campus and went to my job after attending my classes.
