“Yes, that’s her,” Andrew replied.
“Who’s that man? Is she having an affair?” Isabella asked in disbelief, still processing the shocking discovery. Esteban was a good man, and Mara was fortunate to have him. But Mara didn’t seem to appreciate him—she was having an affair. What was she thinking?
Andrew guided Isabella to their table. After helping her sit, he said, “Esteban and his first wife were deeply in love. Their love story was the talk of Ansport.”
Isabella thought for a moment. How could Esteban have a daughter with someone else so soon after his first wife’s death?
“Jada isn’t Esteban’s daughter,” Isabella concluded almost immediately.
Andrew looked at her with admiration. “That was my suspicion. But after what we’ve seen today, it seems likely to be true.”
Isabella immediately sent a message to Susan. “Susan, can you get me a strand of your father’s hair?”
Susan replied, “Sure, I can. But what do you need it for?”
Isabella didn’t intend to hide her reasoning from Susan, so she explained her theory.
Sure enough, Susan was shocked.
If Jada was truly not Esteban’s daughter, then Mara had been incredibly bold to deceive Esteban like that.
Soon, the waiters arrived with their orders. Isabella put down her phone and enjoyed her meal with Andrew.
As they sat across from each other in the softly lit restaurant, Isabella couldn’t help but steal glances at Andrew. He looked handsome and gentle tonight, attentively serving her food and drinks.
Isabella smiled playfully. “You know, I think you’d make a great butler.”
“I could be. But only for you,” Andrew replied with a smile.
Isabella smiled, amused.
After dinner, feeling pleasantly full, they decided to go for a walk together.
As they stepped out of the restaurant, the cool, refreshing evening air enveloped them. At that moment, Andrew received a call from Zahir.
“How could Wesley have changed so much in just a few years?” Zahir’s exasperated voice crackled through the phone. “He’s been causing a ruckus at home, even threatening to commit suicide.”
Andrew sighed. “He’s not inherently bad. He’s just been led astray.”
“Yes, I know. But as things stand, Grandpa is quite troubled.”
Not only Clayton but also Zahir was at his wit’s end.
Isabella, close enough to hear everything clearly, thought for a moment. She then stretched out her hand toward Andrew. He handed her the phone.
Isabella took it and said, “I have an idea. You can give it a try.”
“Miss Patton, please tell me.”
“This is what you can do…”
Isabella explained her plan to Zahir.
After listening to her, Zahir responded, “Okay, I’ll give it a try. Thank you, Miss Patton.”
Andrew walked Isabella to the door of her villa. As they stood there, he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, his warm lips lingering just a moment longer than necessary. He whispered in her ear, “I’m looking forward to that day.”
He gazed at her with a tenderness that made her heart flutter.
Isabella blinked a few times, meeting his gaze. “Me too,” she replied softly.
They were both thinking about their upcoming engagement, which was drawing nearer with each passing day.
“Get some rest.” Andrew reached out and gently stroked her cheek.
Isabella nodded, then turned and entered the villa. Only after she closed the door behind her did Andrew head back to his own villa.
The next day, at the Lambert family home, Wesley was up at the crack of dawn, throwing a tantrum.
He hurled whatever he could find in his bedroom. After his grandfather had removed most of his belongings, the room grew quieter, and Wesley resorted to pounding on the door in frustration.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
He continued battering the door, his anger mounting.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and he stumbled forward, wincing in pain. Looking up, he shot Zahir a fiery glare.
Zahir looked down at him with an amused expression and asked, “Wesley, are you really so stubborn that you can’t admit you misjudged someone?”
Wesley snapped back, “I didn’t misjudge her! Jada is genuinely kind-hearted!”
He clung to the idea of Jada’s kindness, despite the despair that engulfed him. No one seemed to care about him. When his brother returned, it felt like Zahir had simply taken his place. A wave of misery washed over him.
“Alright, if you believe that, then do as I say. If Jada helps you, you won’t be grounded anymore, and you’ll inherit half the company in the future.” With that, Zahir handed him a phone.
Wesley’s eyes lit up with a flicker of hope. “Really? You’re not lying to me, are you?”
Caution crept back into his demeanor. “You wouldn’t let me off that easy. What do you want me to do?”
“Call Jada and tell her you’ve caused a scene and that your grandfather has cut ties with you. Ask if you can stay at her place for a while,” Zahir replied.
Wesley sighed in relief, thinking it was simple enough. “Fine, I’ll prove to you that Jada is truly kind-hearted. She’d help even a complete stranger!”
Confidence surged through him.
Zahir merely sneered as Wesley dialed the number.
Jada had been drifting in a fog for the past few days. Her spirits lifted only when she learned that the Qiviut Organization’s assessment was about to begin. If she could secure a spot with them, her future would be bright, and she wouldn’t have to rely on the Riggs family anymore.
She was immersed in her studies when Wesley’s call interrupted her.
“Jada!” Wesley’s voice came through, tight and strained.
Jada asked, “Aren’t you grounded? Did your grandfather let you out?”
“No, Jada. I couldn’t bear the thought of being cooped up at home, so I did something that made my grandpa even angrier. Now he wants to cut ties with me,” Wesley said. “Jada, I have nowhere to go now.”
“What? Are you serious?” Jada gasped, shock washing over her.
“Your grandfather wouldn’t be that heartless, would he?”
“Zahir’s back, and naturally, my grandpa favors him,” Wesley lamented, his voice dripping with defeat. Jada struggled to process the news. That old man, Clayton, was far too biased!
“Jada, can you take me in?” Wesley’s voice brimmed with hope.
“I… of course, I can,” Jada replied.
Wesley’s spirits soared. He knew full well that Jada was far too kind-hearted to turn him away.
“It’s just that I’m not in a great situation either. My parents are going through a messy divorce. I can give you some cash to stay in a hotel for now,” Jada said.
Wesley frowned and asked, “Jada, don’t you have your own place?”
“That house was given to me by my dad, but now he doesn’t want me to keep it. There’s nothing I can do,” Jada sighed.
In reality, she was now living in that house. The relentless bickering between her parents had become unbearable, and with the looming assessment pressing down on her, she knew she had to escape.
Wesley reluctantly agreed.
