Jada understood Susan all too well. She knew that Susan craved their father’s love more than anything else.

In their younger days, whenever Jada wanted something from Susan, all she had to do was mention their father’s name, and Susan would undoubtedly relent.

The old Susan would have fallen for words like that. She would have crumbled, drowning in heartbreak, and run off in tears.

But not this time.

“Hahaha…” Susan suddenly burst into laughter.

Jada and Mara exchanged confused glances.

They wondered why she was laughing. Had she lost her mind in her rage?

Before they could make sense of it, the sharp crack of Susan’s hand slapping Jada’s face echoed like a firecracker, leaving Jada stunned, her cheek burning.

Seeing Jada clutch her face in shock and pain, Susan couldn’t deny the wave of satisfaction that washed over her.

“Susan, are you out of your mind? How dare you hit Jada? Don’t you know your father despises this kind of behavior the most?” Mara, rushing to check on Jada’s face, spat out her disdain. “You’ve always lacked class. Even after getting engaged, you’re still unbearable! No wonder your father doesn’t care about you at all!”

“Is that so?” Susan feigned concern, her wide eyes filled with mock worry. “I must be truly pitiful then. What shall I do? How can I possibly make my father love me?”

Mara’s arrogance flared instantly. “Simple. Kneel down and apologize to Jada right now. Then go tell your father to hand over the CEO position to her. Just tell him you’re not cut out for management!”

“Oh, is that so…” Susan drawled, her voice slow and deliberate. “Well, what are you waiting for? Kneel down and apologize!” Mara’s arrogance was almost tangible. She was certain that invoking Esteban’s name would keep Susan in line.

Just then, the bedroom door swung open with a sudden force. Esteban, finally unable to take it any longer, stormed in and delivered a hard slap across Mara’s face.

She was too stunned to even register the pain, her eyes wide with terror. “Esteban, why are you…”

“Is this how you treat Susan when I’m not around?” Esteban’s voice shook with fury, his entire body trembling in anger.

Mara panicked at first, but years of experience allowed her to quickly regain her composure. She rushed to explain, “Esteban, you’ve got it all wrong. Susan hit Jada first, and I was just upset, which is why I said those things!”

Another sharp slap sent Mara reeling, her cheek swelling instantly.

Esteban, seething with rage, barked, “I heard everything from the very beginning, and you still dare to twist the truth and blame Susan?”

For once, genuine fear flashed across Mara’s face as she trembled slightly.

How could her luck be so terrible?

“Esteban, it’s all my fault. I was just worried about Jada. You’ve given everything to Susan—what will happen to Jada?” Tears welled up in Mara’s eyes as she knelt and clutched his hand in desperation.

She knew Esteban was more easily swayed by soft pleas than harsh arguments, so she opted for a direct confession.

“Jada’s been bullied by Susan ever since she was a child. Now that Susan is set to become the head of the company, I’m terrified that Jada’s future will be ruined!” Mara cried out, her voice trembling.

Jada joined in, helping Mara to her feet. “Mom, don’t do this. If it comes to that, I’ll just go abroad. I won’t stay in Ansport anymore. If Dad believes Susan is better suited to manage the company, I won’t fight her for it. I’ll leave and not cause them any trouble here.”

The two of them cried together, looking utterly pitiful. Had Esteban not already known about their past schemes, he might have been swayed by their tearful performance.

“I didn’t realize your acting skills were worthy of an Oscar,” Esteban said coldly. “When Susan was a child, every gift and bit of pocket money I gave her, you funneled to Jada. And now you have the audacity to claim that Susan bullied Jada?”

His voice boomed like thunder in Jada’s and Mara’s ears, making both of their hearts race with panic.

How could Esteban know about the past? He and Susan were never supposed to communicate!

“Tell me, what else have you done?” Esteban’s voice trembled with fury, veins pulsing on his forehead.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing!” Mara sobbed, her hands clutching his leg. “Esteban, it’s all my fault. I was consumed by greed! I was just jealous… jealous of Susan…”

Esteban kicked her aside, his face hardening. “You disgraceful woman! Prepare for a divorce!” His voice was icy and resolute.

Mara’s eyes filled with despair. Divorce? How could it come to this? At her age, where would she go after a divorce? Her original family would scorn her, and the ladies of high society would surely mock her. This was a fate worse than death!

“Esteban, I won’t divorce you! I’ll do whatever you want. I promise to take care of you and Susan from now on. Please, just give me another chance!” Mara begged, desperation lacing her voice.

Esteban’s response was icy and unyielding. “If you divorce me peacefully, I won’t lay a finger on you. But if you try to stall, I’ll unleash my wrath on your family!”

With those cutting words, Esteban turned on his heel and strode away, leaving Mara to hurriedly chase after him.

Jada stood there, utterly dumbfounded, grappling with the chaotic turn of events. How had it come to this? She and her mother had always been the ones pulling the strings at home…

“It’s all your fault! Are you satisfied now?” Jada shouted at Susan.

But Susan remained unyielding and defiant. In a flash, she retaliated with a sharp slap across Jada’s face.

“How dare you raise your voice at me? I’m older than you! Show some respect!”

Jada covered her face, her fury so intense she almost lost control. Since when did this person have the audacity to hit her without hesitation?

She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, frustration welling up inside her. But there was nothing she could do. She gritted her teeth, turned around, and walked away.

Meanwhile, Susan felt a surge of satisfaction. She quickly pulled out her phone and sent a message to Isabella, eager to share the juicy family drama.

At that moment, the members of the Patton family were still in high spirits. Elaine was so overjoyed by the unfolding events that her mind had already jumped ahead to planning the wedding.

When Isabella received Susan’s message, she replied, “I’m glad to hear you’ve finally cleared things up with your father.”

“Yes, and it’s all thanks to you. If it hadn’t been for your advice, I might never have had the courage to ask those questions,” Susan replied.

“Sweetheart, have you picked out your engagement dress?” Elaine asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She was eager to know how Isabella was preparing.

“Yes, Mom. Don’t worry. Everything’s ready,” Isabella replied, smiling gently.

Elaine beamed with happiness. “There have been so many happy events in our family recently.”

However, her smile faltered slightly as she remembered Howard, who was still missing.

“Mom, don’t worry too much,” Isabella said reassuringly. “I’ve already contacted Howard. He’s currently…” She paused before continuing, “Trying to win over a woman.”

Elaine’s eyes widened in surprise. “Trying to win over a woman? Who is he pursuing?”

“I don’t know either,” Isabella replied. “But I’m sure he’ll succeed, and you’ll know her when he brings her home.”

Elaine breathed a sigh of relief, knowing Howard was okay. As the weather warmed and the snow melted, the city slowly shed its white coat. The streets buzzed with activity as people resumed their work after the New Year holiday.

Isabella had been closely monitoring Howard’s movements.

When you were with the Serpentine Players, the stakes were always high, and trust was a luxury few could afford. Every day, you had to stay alert, or you could easily end up six feet under.

Isabella was eager to expand her organization, so she asked Jared to start the assessments immediately.

Later that evening, Andrew arrived to pick her up for their dinner date. As she stepped out of the car, the cold breeze brushed against her face. Although winter was nearing its end, the nights still carried a chill.

A warm suit jacket settled on Isabella’s shoulders, offering comfort against the evening cold. She looked up and saw Andrew standing beside her, wearing a black shirt. His presence exuded an air of mysterious elegance and self-control.

“I’m not cold,” she said, attempting to remove the jacket. But Andrew kept it in place, wrapping his arm around her waist and guiding her into the restaurant.

Isabella could only look at him in resignation.

“You…” she started to speak but was cut off when Andrew placed a finger on her lips. “Shh! Look over there.”

Isabella followed his gaze and saw a man and a woman heading upstairs.

As she watched them, her brows furrowed slightly.

“Isn’t that Mara?” she asked.
