I sighed. “Please hurry, Sheila. I really don’t have all day. I’m gonna fail in every subject because of you guys.”

“You won’t fail,” she said confidently.

“How do you know?”

“Because you’re the smartest girl in class. You don’t even need to attend those.”

“That’s what you think. I actually do need to attend those.

There’s a certain criteria I have to meet in every subject if I want to keep my scholarship. Of course, rich people like you wouldn’t get it.”

“You’re rich too now, you’re Zane Adams’s mate.”

“I’m not anything to him,” I stated. “Please understand that and explain it to him as well. Tell him that I’m seeing someone else.”

Sheila’s eyes widened. “Blake Walker?”

“No. Someone else. A human boy.”

“Lia, you can’t do that,” she whispered.

“Why not? The Goddess will feel bad?”

“No,” she laughed, “Zane will kill him.”

I fell silent. “My boyfriend?”

“Don’t call him that. Lia, if you care about this boy, you have to stop seeing him at once. Or you’re gonna find him dead at the end of a ditch somewhere. If Zane doesn’t kill him, I will.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Excuse me? You guys are throwing out death threats now? What will you do? Make a meal of him?”

“No, ew. neck.”

I would just rip his spine into half, followed by his

My mouth fell open. “You’re serious.”

“Of course I am. Zane is our Alpha, Lia. And you’re meant to be our Luna. You don’t get to have fun with human boys or any boys at all. Because your actions affect him directly, which in turn, affects my pack. I will protect the interests of my pack no matter what. If you were mated to someone else, it wouldn’t be my problem. But with Zane, whatever you do, affects each and every one of us. You can’t just do whatever you want, sweetheart.”

“More threats,” I nodded. “And then these guys ask me why I want them to stay away from me.”

“Don’t tell Zane about this, he won’t be happy with me,” she said with a frown.

“All the more reason to tell him.” I smiled.

Sheila sighed. “Okay, do whatever. I’ll bear the consequences. But Lia, please don’t break his heart. Zane is a good guy, he’s never hurt you. I can promise you that he’ll keep you happy. You have no idea how special mate bonds are.”

“Clearly not a lot, because I wouldn’t have two of them if they were.”

“No human man will be able to love you the way Zane will.”

“Or Blake,” I added.

She rolled her eyes. “Blake is just an idiot. Do you know it was he who led that werewolf to school? He wanted to save you and reveal his true nature to you in a heroic way.”

My eyes widened, heart sinking to my stomach. “No. He wouldn’t risk my life like that.”

“That’s what you think.”

“But it was Zane who saved me, not Blake.”

“Because Zane didn’t wait for the perfect moment. He saw you in trouble and stepped in. Blake was planning something else-he stood there watching, ready to pounce at the right time. Zane was leaving when he saw you get into trouble, and immediately intervened. Be careful who you spend your time with, Lia. That’s all I’ll say to you.”

With that she walked away, her heels clicking against the floor, ponytail swaying behind her.

I stared at her retreating back, realising that I was in more danger than I expected.

Fishing out my phone, I left the Order another message, this time telling them my exact situation. If they could help me at all, I was jumping at the chance. I didn’t care if anyone got hurt. I wanted out.

-ZANE’S POV-

“I did a thing, “Sheila muttered on the phone, sounding rather sheepish and almost afraid.

I bit my tongue. “What is it?”

“First promise me you won’t get mad, “she replied.

“I will promise no such thing. If you did something to make me mad, I’ll be mad.”

She grumbled something to herself, then took a deep breath.

“Sheila, come on now. Just say it.”

“I may or may not have threatened Lia.”

My jaw clenched. “You did what?”

“It’s not what you think!” she said quickly. “She said that she’s seeing someone else. A human boy. Not you, not Blake.”

“And you threatened her? With what?”

She was silent again for a second.

“Sheila, my patience is really running thin right now,” I seethed.

“Murder,” she said quietly.

“You dared to threaten to kill your future Luna?” I growled, my eyes going black.

“No, no, not her! Him. The boy she said she was seeing! I would never do that, Alpha. I know that’s treachery,” she cried at once.

I calmed down slightly. “Did she mention a name? Did you see her with him?” The thought of it made me want to rip him apart. I couldn’t do it to Blake, because he had an equal right on her. But if any stupid human tried to insert himself into our equation, I wasn’t going to tolerate it.

“No, she didn’t mention a name, and I didn’t see anyone.”

“Then she was bluffing,” I said, as relief filled me. “What exactly did you say to her?”

“I said that if you found out about this boy, you would kill him and throw him in a ditch.

I wanted to bang my head against the wall. “What. Else?” I snapped.

“I said that if you didn’t do it, I would. I would break his spine and then his neck.

Goddess.

“Weren’t you the one who said to be careful, to not scare her?” I asked, gritting my teeth.

“I was.”

“Then why the hell did that thought fly out the window? You realise you might have completely spooked her? She might be feeling afraid of me now?” I asked.

“I-I know, That’s why I’m admitting to what I did. I accept the consequences, Alpha. Whatever punishment you decide-“

“Will start a civil war because my Beta will stand against me.” I cut her off, rolling my eyes.

“That won’t happen, I promise. I deserve punishment, Zane, and I will speak to Aaron beforehand.

I rolled my eyes. “What good will punishing you do?”

“I don’t know.”

“Exactly.” I ran a hand through my hair, pursing my lips. “Is Lia in school right now?”

“Yes. She’s in history.”

“Okay. I’ll get there soon. Until then, if you see her with Blake, listen in to their conversation. We need to be aware of the status of their relationship at all times. I cannot lose her to him. You understand?”

“Of course I do. I got you, Zane, I promise.”

“Okay.” I hung up the phone, then threw it across the room, letting it break to pieces. I couldn’t believe Sheila had been so stupid. This was so unlike her.

But I knew how she was about mates. How sacred she held the bond. She lost her mind when Lia mentioned someone else. Now I had to go clean up this mess.

-LIA’S POV-

I purposely took an empty seat which was surrounded by taken ones, not wanting to be approached by any other werewolf for the day. But Blake still made his way up to the seat beside mine, threatening the guy to move. He did, and Blake sat down, staring at me.
