As he turned his gaze away, Wesley was swept up in a tempest of anguish and self-reproach. Why hadn’t he recognized his goddess sooner? Ever since the revelation that Isabella was Rosemarie, all of Wesley’s resentments towards her had vanished, replaced by a gnawing fear—a fear that Isabella would despise him.
“Wesley… I didn’t know Isabella was Rosemarie either. I’m so sorry. I can help you explain things to her,” Jada offered, her voice heavy with unshed tears.
As Wesley caught sight of Jada’s anguished expression, his anger slowly began to fade. She was innocent in this mess too; she had been just as unaware of the truth.
Moreover, she was absolutely right. If he rushed to see Isabella now, she likely wouldn’t give him the time of day.
“Let’s talk about this properly, okay?” Jada implored softly.
After a moment of hesitation, Wesley finally nodded in agreement.
Jada and Wesley made their way back to the hotel, where they spent the entire night analyzing the situation. They had decided to follow Isabella to the airport the next day, hoping for an opportunity to speak with her.
The following day, as planned, they followed Isabella to Andrew’s private airport.
As soon as Isabella’s car pulled in, Wesley quickly parked and rushed toward her.
Isabella was breathtakingly beautiful, with bright eyes, a well-defined nose, and rosy lips that complemented her delicate features. Seeing her up close, Wesley was struck by just how stunning she truly was. A wave of guilt washed over him.
“Isabella, please wait,” he called out softly.
She didn’t even glance at him and continued walking inside with the others.
Desperate, Wesley stepped in front of her.
“I’m sorry, Isabella,” he said earnestly. “Please, hear me out.”
“Step aside,” Isabella replied coldly.
Wesley’s face went pale. Isabella didn’t even want to talk to him!
“Isabella, please,” he continued, desperation creeping into his voice. “I didn’t know you were Rosemarie. If I had, I would have acted differently. I’m so sorry.” His words faltered as he struggled with his emotions, hoping for some sign of forgiveness.
“Even if I am Rosemarie, it means nothing to you,” Isabella replied, her voice icy and her expression unreadable.
Wesley felt her words cut through him. How could she claim it had nothing to do with him? He had worked tirelessly in racing just to get closer to Rosemarie. Meeting her had been his dream.
“I’m sorry. Please, tell me how I can make things right,” Wesley pleaded.
Isabella’s eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze piercing. “There’s nothing to make right. We have no connection, Wesley, so there’s nothing to forgive.”
Those words stung more than anything else.
Wesley stood frozen, watching her walk away, feeling as though his heart had shattered.
Jada, sensing his pain, gently took Wesley’s hand. Her face was etched with deep concern. “How could Isabella treat you like this? It’s so cruel,” she whispered.
“Shut up!” Wesley snapped, his voice trembling with anger. “Who do you think you are, talking about her like that? This is all my fault!”
Jada’s face drained of color as anger surged within her. Isabella had every right to treat Wesley this way. He was such a hopeless fool!
However, she took a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry, Wesley. I just hate to see you like this.”
Wesley’s eyes filled with tears as he watched Isabella disappear into the distance. Suddenly, he felt lost.
The woman he had fought so hard for now despised him. And now, he wasn’t even sure what he was fighting for anymore.
“You said that if you had known who she was, you wouldn’t have treated her this way,” Jada continued softly. “But look at her now—she’s still distant. To her, you don’t matter at all…” She paused, then added, thoughtful, “It’s like how Andrew and Norton always overlook you. They don’t take you seriously because you’re the youngest. But if you gain enough power, enough strength that no one can ignore you, Isabella would naturally come closer. Power is everything in this world.”
Jada’s words hit home. It seemed like the only solution.
“Let’s head back,” Wesley said, taking a deep breath.
A cunning glimmer sparkled in Jada’s eyes. As long as Wesley remained the CEO of the Lambert Group, her place as the future wife of a CEO would be assured. That was all she needed.
Two hours later, they arrived home.
Waylon and his teammates went to rest, while Andrew prepared to take Zahir to meet Clayton.
Isabella had been trying to reach Clayton but had no luck. After tracking his whereabouts, she discovered he was at a temple for a spiritual retreat.
She suggested that Andrew take Zahir directly to the temple.
Once they left, Isabella’s phone rang. It was Wesley.
“Isabella, I’ve explained everything to you,” Wesley said, frustration seeping into his voice. “If I had known who you really were, I never would’ve treated you like that. But even after all this, you still choose to be indifferent to me.” He paused, his voice trailing off as his emotions overwhelmed him.
His voice firming with determination, Wesley muttered, “Maybe it’s because I’m not strong enough yet. But just wait. I’ll make sure I’m someone you can’t ignore.”
Wesley’s admiration for Rosemarie had long since turned into obsession.
“You’re insane!” Isabella spat before abruptly hanging up.
Wesley stormed back into his office, his emotions boiling over. After the insult from Isabella, he gripped his phone tightly, his anger almost palpable.
“Mr. Lambert, while you were away, the executives had a meeting regarding the company’s future,” the project manager said, his tone earnest. “We believe it’s in our best interest to continue collaborating with the other three major families. They have access to the Klein family’s shipping routes, and if we approach them with a cooperative attitude, they might agree to further partnerships.”
“Absolutely not,” Wesley snapped coldly. “We don’t need to grovel to anyone. We’ll focus on developing other projects without them.”
The project manager stared at Wesley, his frustration barely concealed. It was clear to him that Wesley was being reckless. In such tough economic conditions, launching new projects wasn’t something that could be decided on a whim.
After leaving the office, the project manager called Clayton. This time, the call finally connected.
Desperate and nearly in tears, the project manager hastily updated Clayton on everything that had transpired recently.
At Onryx Temple, Clayton had finally carved out some time for meditation, seeking the serene environment he had longed for. That’s why he hadn’t checked his phone for days.
Just as he completed his spiritual retreat, the project manager’s call came through.
Clayton was taken aback as he listened to the shocking news of all the events that had unfolded in his absence.
Wesley was known for his mischievous and unruly behavior, yet he always managed to maintain a sense of decorum. How could he have thrown the company into such disarray?
When the project manager mentioned Jada’s involvement, it clicked for Clayton—Jada had clearly been a major catalyst in the turmoil.
“Mr. Lambert, you need to intervene! If you don’t return soon, we’re at our breaking point,” the project manager said, his voice trembling.
In just a few weeks, the company’s stock price had plummeted to its lowest point. If things continued down this path, bankruptcy loomed on the horizon. Wesley had certainly made his mark, pushing a century-old firm to the brink of collapse.
Disappointment weighed heavily on Clayton. After a short conversation, he ended the call and immediately dialed Wesley.
“Grandpa, what’s the matter? Aren’t you supposed to be on a retreat?” Wesley answered.
“Wesley, you need to stay away from Jada. She’s trouble! Have you completely disregarded everything I’ve taught you? How could you sever ties with the other families?” Clayton’s voice was full of anger.
Clayton hadn’t felt this enraged in years.
Wesley clenched his jaw and responded, “Grandpa, they started it.”
“You were the one who ended the partnerships. And you still think it’s their fault? All my efforts in teaching you seem wasted. You owe them an apology and must reinstate those partnerships immediately!” Clayton’s fury was evident.
Yet, Wesley remained quiet.
“Are you even listening to me anymore?” Clayton asked, his frustration building.
“Grandpa, I am listening… Since you handed over the company to me, please let me try something. I’ve discovered a promising project that I believe will take our company to greater heights!” Wesley said with conviction.
Clayton was stunned by Wesley’s stubbornness.
