Though Isabella spoke with calm composure, Thea felt a wave of intense pressure radiating from her.
In a daze, she walked away. She had finally bested Rosemarie just now, but now another formidable rival had emerged.
As the race wrapped up that evening, Isabella’s team claimed first place.
The crowd erupted in wild cheers.
Meanwhile, Wesley and Jada sat in disbelief, their spirits crushed.
How could this be possible? Isabella’s team had picked someone at random for their team, yet still, they had secured first place.
Wesley cast a skeptical glance at Rosemarie.
“Didn’t you beat Thea before? How did you only get third this time?”
Rosemarie shot back coldly, “Are you doubting me again? I told you I haven’t raced in years, and my injury still affects me. But tomorrow, in the solo race, I’ll show them exactly what I’m capable of.”
At the mention of the solo race, Wesley pressed his lips together and fell silent. He exchanged a glance with Jada. Tomorrow would be the real test.
Back at the hotel, Andrew had already ordered food and beer to celebrate their team’s victory.
“Wow, Zahir, you’re incredible! You haven’t lost your edge all these years!” Waylon exclaimed, throwing an arm around Zahir’s neck in excitement.
Zahir gave a slight smile in return.
Andrew asked, “Where have you been all these years? What happened back then, and how did you survive?”
Zahir’s tone grew somber as he recounted, “When I woke up, I was already in the hospital. An elderly couple found me while gathering firewood in the mountains. But they were old… They passed away last year. Since then, I’ve been recovering from my injuries in the hospital…”
He averted his gaze, leaving out the part where he’d considered ending it all more times than he’d care to admit. He was alive, but he’d lost his memories, unsure of the purpose of his life.
Now, though, everything had changed. He had finally reunited with his best friend.
Zahir wanted to ask some questions, but his hands trembled with emotion. Sensing his unease, Andrew spoke gently. “Your parents are still alive, but things have always been tense between you and them. Your grandfather—he’s always been fond of you. He’s still with us. When we get back, I’ll take you to see him.”
Zahir let out a relieved sigh. His biggest fear had been reuniting with his friend only to find out his family was gone. Thankfully, his family was still around.
Zahir visibly relaxed. “Alright, let’s give it everything in tomorrow’s race. I hope we get the results we’re aiming for,” he said with newfound determination.
Everyone nodded in agreement. Waylon extended his hand, and the others placed theirs on top. With a unified push, they brought their hands down forcefully. “For our glory!”
As the night deepened, clouds covered the moon, but soon the sun began to rise, the morning light chasing away the darkness over the city.
Isabella woke up early, ready for a morning jog. As she passed the stairwell, voices caught her attention. Peering in, she saw a woman stumble into Andrew’s arms. The woman noticed Isabella and immediately stood upright, apologizing, “I’m sorry, I tripped.” Andrew quickly glanced at Isabella.
Isabella remained unfazed. “Who are you?” she asked, her tone composed.
“I’m Savannah Wilson, the princess from Aswil,” the woman replied.
Savannah stood elegantly in her pale yellow gown, radiating a regal grace that far eclipsed Jessica’s.
This had to be the woman Norton had mentioned…
“Oh,” Isabella responded. Her gaze shifted to Andrew, who quickly interjected, “She knew I was here for the race and wanted to discuss a project.”
Andrew’s sincerity shone through; he was truly innocent in the matter. Not wanting Isabella to misinterpret the situation, he had intended to handle it over the phone. Yet, Savannah had chosen to come directly instead.
Savannah
If Savannah were to step into Andrew’s room, it might lead to misunderstandings. To prevent that, Andrew decided to address the situation right then and there. But just as they started, Isabella showed up.
“You’re Mr. Klein’s girlfriend, right? We’re here to talk about a project we’re working on together,” Savannah said, her tone friendly. She offered a small smile, with a hint of apology in her expression.
Isabella knew that getting upset would make her seem unkind, so she simply nodded and said, “You two can go ahead.” Just as she turned to leave, Andrew reached for her wrist, stopping her gently. “It’s nothing serious, just a quick issue. Stay. We won’t be long.”
Savannah smiled in agreement. Isabella had wanted to go for a run, but seeing Andrew’s tense expression, she decided to stay. As expected, they spoke for only a few minutes before Savannah left.
Several bodyguards escorted Savannah out. Once inside the car, she closed her eyes to rest. One of the bodyguards asked, “Your Highness, do you think Andrew will cooperate with us?”
“The cooperation is just a cover,” Savannah replied, opening her eyes. Her smile faded, replaced by a calm, sharp look. “We want to change the situation, but cooperation alone won’t be enough.”
Andrew knew Isabella wanted to run, so he joined her for a jog. Afterward, they had breakfast and headed to the racetrack. “You need to stay unnoticed for now,” Andrew said, handing Zahir a pair of sunglasses.
Zahir had already picked up on the situation from Andrew’s explanations. He had a younger brother, and that brother was easily controlled by a woman. Zahir couldn’t stand men who allowed that to happen.
He couldn’t believe his younger brother was reckless enough to cross the other three major families, all because of that woman. If Zahir’s identity were exposed now, Wesley would try to get rid of their grandfather and take full control of the family. Zahir slipped on the sunglasses, his face turning cold, his eyes unreadable.
When they arrived, the others were already there, waiting. Jada had been watching Isabella, curious about the new racer. Then, she noticed the man in sunglasses.
He looked strangely familiar. Jada’s gaze stayed locked on Zahir, confusion creeping over her. Wesley noticed him too.
The moment their eyes met, a chill ran down his spine. Was that his older brother?
It couldn’t be. His brother had been in a terrible racing accident years ago. The fall from that cliff had been too high—no one could’ve survived it.
Maybe this man just resembled his brother. Wesley tried to shake the thought, reassuring himself.
But then, it hit him—what was he thinking? If his brother had really come back, he should feel happy. His older brother and their grandfather had always treated him the best.
Isabella glanced around and saw Rosemarie smiling, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. Rosemarie wasn’t happy.
“Humph!”
“Are you really Rosemarie?” Thea asked, walking over with her teammates.
Rosemarie, hearing this, replied, “Yes. What do you want?”
Thea glanced at Isabella as she passed, a slight smirk on her lips. Lifting her head high, she asked, “Do you have the courage to make a bet with me?”
“What kind of bet?” Rosemarie asked, her tone sharp.
“I bet you can’t beat that woman,” Thea said, nodding toward Isabella.
Rosemarie’s expression darkened. She scoffed. “With my skills, I wouldn’t stoop to such a meaningless bet.”
“You’re just afraid to lose, aren’t you?” Thea replied calmly. “You lost to me in the team race, but that woman beat me. Honestly, I think she’s the real Rosemarie.”
Thea wasn’t one to overestimate herself. She knew Isabella’s talent far outshone hers, but this woman in front of her was irritating her.
“We don’t owe you any bets, Miss Carter,” Jada said, stepping in and pulling Rosemarie away.
Thea let out a short laugh. “There’s no way she’s the real Rosemarie.”
Her teammates nodded. “Yeah, Rosemarie was way better than this. Even after a few years, she wouldn’t have dropped off so badly.”
Their voices were loud enough to catch the attention of the crowd. People began to turn, their eyes landing on Jada and Rosemarie.
Rosemarie had been expected to dominate, but her performance had fallen far short.
“Could she be a fake?” one person whispered.
“She probably is!” another responded.
“There’s no way the real Rosemarie, my idol, would be this bad. Ridiculous. Does everyone think they can just pretend to be Rosemarie these days?”
Rosemarie spun around, her anger boiling over. “Fine, I’ll take your bet,” she said, her words sharp. “But let’s raise the stakes. If I beat Isabella, you’ll kneel down, apologize to me in front of everyone, and hand over a million dollars as compensation!”
“Alright, if you lose, you’ll have to fork over ten grand to everyone here and admit you’re a fraud,” Thea declared, her voice steady and unwavering.
