They stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s embrace, enjoying a rare sense of tranquility. Suddenly, a phone rang, interrupting the quiet moment. Andrew’s expression shifted, a touch of annoyance flashing across his face. He picked up the phone with a frown, glancing at the screen. When he saw the name flashing, his expression changed slightly.
He let go of Isabella and said, “I need to take this.” Isabella watched him walk out of the room, feeling a bit unsettled.
But she didn’t follow him. Instead, she stayed on the bed, waiting for him to return.
When Andrew came back into the room, his expression had returned to normal. However, Isabella still sensed that something was off. She couldn’t help but ask, “Is everything alright? What was that call about? Did something happen?”
“Nothing important,” Andrew replied, lying back on the bed and pulling her close again. “Just some minor issues at work.”
Isabella felt a cold aura emanating from him. Something must have really happened. But since he obviously didn’t want to talk about it, she didn’t press him any further. She simply lay there, holding him in silence.
In the afternoon, Isabella and Andrew strolled through the bustling shopping district, hand in hand, looking for items for their engagement. That included choosing the all-important engagement dress.
Isabella followed Andrew into a shop, thinking he would help her pick out a dress there. But to her surprise, he asked the shop owner to bring out a custom-made gown.
As the shop owner carefully unveiled the dress, Isabella’s eyes widened in awe. The beautiful gown was so dazzling that she fell in love with it at first sight.
“Wow, this is gorgeous! But it must have been very troublesome to make. When did you order it?” Isabella exclaimed, almost unable to tear her eyes away from the dress.
Andrew smiled and replied, “Half a year ago.” Isabella was shocked. Half a year ago? They hadn’t even known each other for that long at that time.
Looking into Andrew’s eyes, she saw the tenderness and determination that filled them. A wave of emotions surged within her. Never had she imagined someone would choose her so resolutely.
She smiled and stepped into the fitting room, the delicate fabric of the dress draped over her arm.
Suddenly, loud voices interrupted the peaceful moment in the shop. Since this was the most famous dress shop in Ansport, it was common to see people from wealthy families shopping there. Today, Jada and Wesley walked in, chatting as they browsed through the racks of luxurious gowns and suits. They didn’t expect to run into Andrew.
Wesley instinctively felt intimidated by Andrew’s presence, worried that Andrew might be angry about what he had done.
However, Andrew didn’t even glance at them. It was as if they were strangers not worth his attention. His gaze remained fixed on the fitting room door.
Jada watched Andrew with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. Realizing they were being completely ignored, she whispered to Wesley, “Is Andrew mad at us? He didn’t even spare us a glance. I told you, you shouldn’t have done it.”
Wesley’s face flushed with embarrassment. Since childhood, he had always followed behind Andrew like a shadow. He knew he was no match for Andrew in strength or capabilities. That was why he had accepted Andrew’s dominance, never allowing it to bother him deeply. But now, with his new position as CEO of the Lambert Group, it stung.
“Andrew, what a coincidence! You’re here too,” Wesley said, taking the initiative to greet Andrew, trying to suppress the uneasiness in his heart.
However, Andrew still ignored them.
The awkwardness grew, and they both felt even more embarrassed.
This time, Jada broke the silence. “Andrew, I know you’re upset about Wesley’s decision. We’ve been friends for so many years. You can’t let business affect our personal relationships.”
Wesley nodded in agreement, feeling that her words made sense. He looked at Andrew with lingering grievance.
Andrew sneered. “Didn’t you cancel the cooperation because of personal feelings? Why are you telling me now not to let business interfere with our personal relationships? Aren’t you just making it clear that you two have a double standard?”
His words hit Wesley like a slap. Indeed, Andrew was right. He had canceled the cooperation because of Isabella.
“Andrew, I have no ill intentions towards you,” Wesley said indignantly. “I’m doing this for your own good. Isabella is not a good person. You’re all being deceived by her. If you break up with her, I will definitely continue to cooperate with you, and I’m also willing to compensate for the previous losses.”
Andrew’s eyes narrowed, his tone firm. “Sorry, but breaking up is not an option. We’re getting engaged soon.”
His face turned cold, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop drastically, making both Wesley and Jada subconsciously shiver.
At that moment, Isabella emerged from the fitting room, wearing the custom-made dress. The already bright and luxurious shop seemed to sparkle as she appeared.
Although Wesley didn’t like Isabella, he couldn’t help but be stunned. He stared at her, momentarily captivated. The silver-white dress made her look like a goddess descending from heaven, exuding an otherworldly beauty untouched by earthly concerns.
Andrew was momentarily dazzled, but a soft smile soon spread across his face as he walked towards Isabella. His voice became instantly tender. “I knew this dress would look perfect on you. You’re absolutely stunning.” The gentler, adoring tone was a stark contrast to the sharp one he had used with Wesley earlier.
Isabella beamed, but her eyes soon drifted to where Wesley and Jada stood. She barely acknowledged them, turning her attention back to Andrew. “You should try the white suit. I saw one that would look absolutely fantastic on you.”
Andrew obediently headed off to change.
Wesley’s emotions swirled in a complicated mix. The friend he had admired since childhood seemed so compliant in Isabella’s presence.
“Isabella, I never would have imagined that, even after the news of my canceled collaborations has been out for so long, you haven’t shown an ounce of concern. It appears you’re utterly indifferent to how others are affected because of you!” Wesley sneered, his tone laced with disdain. “You truly are just as I thought—completely unconcerned about anyone else’s well-being.”
Isabella’s gaze turned icy as she replied, “Do you genuinely believe your actions will force everyone to submit? For Andrew’s sake, I strongly advise you to retract that order soon, or you’ll come to regret it.”
Wesley sneered defiantly, his voice dripping with arrogance. “I won’t regret it. The ones who will regret it are you.”
With that, he took Jada by the hand and led her toward the racks to try on clothes.
Jada chose the most extravagant outfits in the store, gazing at her shimmering reflection in the mirror as if she were reclaiming her former glory.
Wesley watched her, admiration shining in his eyes. “Jada, this truly suits you!” he exclaimed.
Jada smiled faintly, yet a flicker of concern clouded her expression. “Wesley, it’s been a while since you issued that order. They’ve likely lost tens of millions of dollars, perhaps even billions. But why haven’t they responded?” Andrew was an enigma, and Jada couldn’t shake the nagging fear that he might have some clever countermeasure up his sleeve.
“They can’t just abandon foreign trade; they’ll suffer major financial loss. We’re utilizing our shipping routes for our own goods, which will significantly boost our annual income!” Wesley replied, unfazed.
Hearing this, Jada felt a wave of reassurance wash over her; perhaps she had been overthinking things. Most of the foreign trade routes were under Wesley’s control. What could the others really do? If they opted out, the losses would fall squarely on their shoulders.
Jada’s face brightened with a triumphant smile, her eyes sparkling with pride. Hmph, she couldn’t shake the belief that, in time, they would turn their attention toward Isabella!
Ultimately, Isabella would become the target of all their frustrations. With this thought swirling in her mind, Jada pulled out her phone to message the leader of the hired online agitators.
Andrew and Isabella spent the entire afternoon indulging in a delightful shopping spree, and by the time they returned home, it was quite late.
Andrew guided Isabella to the guest room, a space imbued with a distinctly feminine charm. The pink decor exuded a dreamy quality, and a lavish princess bed stood proudly in the center, clearly arranged with thoughtful attention.
“What do you think?” Andrew asked gently, his gaze fixed on her.
Although Isabella wasn’t particularly fond of the pink hues, the care with which Andrew had prepared the room warmed her heart. She nodded and replied, “Thank you. It’s beautiful. I really like it.”
“Then get some rest. Call me if you need anything,” Andrew said gently.
He stepped out, a satisfied smile gracing his lips.
After enjoying a bath, Isabella settled onto the bed and checked the news online.
Wesley’s shocking actions had sent ripples through the internet, igniting a flurry of speculation as people began to point fingers at Isabella.
“Insider news: the reason Mr. Lambert did this is because he believes Isabella is unworthy of being with Andrew.”
“If Mr. Lambert is going this far, then Isabella really has issues, right?”
“But I think Isabella is perfectly fine—actually, she’s quite remarkable. And don’t she and Andrew share similar family backgrounds?”
“No, no, no, you can’t just take things at face value. Mr. Lambert is so hell-bent on driving Isabella out that he’s willing to sever collaborations with the other three major families. That speaks volumes about his determination. Honestly, if Isabella had any sense, she’d realize it’s time to step back from Andrew. She’s already caused such a massive loss for him and everyone else.”
“The four major families shouldn’t be at…”
“All because of one woman. It could jeopardize our country’s economy.”
“Isabella, it’s time to let go of Andrew. If it’s not meant to be, it’s just not meant to be.”
“Yeah, if Isabella is really affecting the four major families, then she’s a terrible influence.”
As the chatter spread, the hired online agitators skillfully fueled the fire, convincing countless netizens to view Isabella as nothing more than a troublemaker. The insults grew in intensity, like a relentless tide, and Isabella’s private messages overflowed with venomous remarks. It didn’t take long for her to realize that Jada was behind it all.
That woman was like an annoying gnat; as long as she wasn’t swatted away, she’d just keep buzzing around.
“I saw the news online. Don’t worry, I’ll handle this soon.”
At that moment, Andrew’s message came through.
