“Rest easy. From now on, I’ll always be by your side,” Isabella whispered.

Something unfamiliar stirred in Andrew as he lifted Isabella to her feet and held her close.

She felt like she could barely breathe.

“Isabella, do you realize you’re making it impossible for me to ever let you go?” Andrew’s voice, rough and low, vibrated against her neck.

Isabella clung to him, her voice soft. “I never planned on leaving.”

At that time, the heavy rain gradually eased.

Isabella turned to Andrew and looked at his handsome face. “Shall we go?” She gently smiled and added, “You probably haven’t eaten yet. I’ve had dinner prepared.”

Andrew nodded with a smile.

Then, he let Isabella pull him to the car. When they arrived home, he saw the dining table was already filled with a sumptuous dinner and red wine.

Isabella looked at Andrew, pursed her lips, and said, “Why didn’t you tell me it was your birthday? If Dane hadn’t told me, I would’ve missed it.”

“Your friend is joining a competition today, right?” Andrew asked calmly.

Isabella nodded. “Yes. But if you had told me it was your birthday, I could have come to you right after the competition.”

Obviously dissatisfied, she added, “Your birthday is a significant occasion, but I didn’t even know about it. It makes me feel like a failed girlfriend.”

The dissatisfied look on her face made Andrew feel warm in his heart. He smiled softly. “No, you’re far from failed. I’m sorry. I know how much you have on your plate, so I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to add to your burden. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure to remind you next time. Let’s eat?”

They enjoyed the sumptuous dinner and wine while talking about different topics and laughing happily. Before they knew it, they were both tipsy. Andrew helped Isabella back to the bedroom and laid her on the bed.

Isabella lay back with half-closed eyes and a soft smile on her face. Suddenly, she reached out, wrapped her arms around Andrew’s neck, and pulled him onto the bed. Her red lips pressed against his.

The dim light in the room cast a soft glow on the glass, where their reflections intertwined. Their clothes slowly fell to the floor.

As the night lingered on, an unspoken connection brought them closer, making the moment especially captivating.

On the other hand, time seemed to stretch painfully for Jada and Mara, dragging on like an eternity.

Jada and Mara followed Esteban back to the Riggs’ house. They felt their hearts in their throats when they saw the dark expression on his face. Esteban slammed the sofa, picked up a bottle from the table, and smashed it on the floor.

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the living room, sharp and jarring, startling Jada and Mara. But Mara gathered the courage to step forward and say, “Honey, calm down.”

“Calm down? You expect me to calm down after what Jada did? How dare she smear her sister’s name just for a competition! She trampled on our family to satisfy her own ambition,” Esteban said crossly. “Jada, haven’t I taught you enough lessons for the things you’ve done?”

Esteban’s eyes were burning with anger, and his body emanated a terrifying icy wrath, making the atmosphere feel stifling.

It was Jada’s first time seeing Esteban so angry that she trembled in fear. Her legs became weak, and she collapsed on the floor. “Dad, I’m… I was wrong. I really thought the baby in Susan’s belly wasn’t Mr. Khan’s. It was just a misunderstanding.”

Esteban’s gaze sharpened. “Misunderstanding? Then why make a spectacle of it? Why did you have to announce it before everyone? Did you realize this would bring disgrace to the entire Riggs family?”

Esteban’s cold and harsh voice pressed hard on Jada. Her lips trembled, but no words came out. She was at a loss, not knowing how to respond.

This time, she had indeed acted recklessly. She could have taken Susan down for good, but it turned out that Susan had never slept with Onyx at all. Her reckless move had backfired and humiliated herself.

“What? Are you regretting it now? You’ve made such a huge mistake. Susan has never had an affair with Onyx!” Suddenly, Esteban’s voice was like thunder, exploding in Jada’s ears.

She was so flustered that she stammered, “Dad, I… I was only blinded by anger because of what Susan did. You’ve always taught us to be upright and honest. That’s why her behavior really angered me.”

“You have the nerve to say those words? How dare you!” Another glass shattered at her feet, and shards cut into her ankle, making her flinch and gasp as pain shot through her.

Mara could only watch as Jada suffered such a predicament. Her heart ached for Jada, but she didn’t dare speak up, knowing Esteban was in a fit of rage.

“Take her to the basement. She is not allowed to come out without my permission.”

At his command, the butler immediately instructed two maids to step forward and drag Jada away.

During this season, the basement was bone-chillingly cold. If Jada stayed there all night, her limbs would definitely go numb. It was a punishment worse than death. She wanted to plead for mercy, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably, but she sensed Esteban’s indifference and knew it would be useless. In the end, she could only allow the maids to take her away.

After Jada was taken, Mara stepped forward and tried to console Esteban. “Honey, don’t be mad. Jada didn’t mean any harm. She really didn’t know the baby was Dane’s. But don’t worry, I will definitely teach her a lesson later.”

“I have always given Jada proper guidance and discipline, but look at how she has turned out today. This is also your fault,” Esteban said in a cold and unyielding tone. He didn’t want to argue with Mara anymore, so he stood up and went upstairs.

Mara’s face turned pale. She felt a mix of terror and sadness.

Susan won the perfume-making competition and took home the championship trophy, adding a dazzling new chapter to her accomplishments. This would only make Esteban disdain Jada even more. Was there still any room left for Jada and her in the Riggs family?

Mara felt utterly stifled. Susan had shown such immense talent in perfumery. Esteban must have been secretly paving the way for Susan all these years. If that was the case, Jada and Mara’s efforts to win his approval had been futile from the start.

Currently, everyone showered Susan with praise and admiration for her outstanding talent. Jada, on the other hand, suffered the weight of disdain directed at her. This was all because of Esteban’s obvious favoritism toward Susan. Jada’s dreams were shattered, and the entire world seemed to turn against her.

With this thought in mind, a cold light flashed across Mara’s eyes. She went upstairs, intending to continue talking to Esteban. But when she reached the door of the study, she overheard him talking on the phone.

“Yes. Write in there that I will transfer all my shares to…”

Mara’s mind instantly went blank. Those words she overheard were like a bomb exploding in her ears. Esteban had already decided to give the Riggs Group to Susan. Then, what would happen to her and Jada?

He wasn’t even giving Jada a single share. What was Jada to him?

Mara felt Esteban’s favoritism had gone too far. She had dedicated years of her life to maintaining the Riggs family. However, her efforts were completely disregarded by Esteban. Now, if she ended up with nothing… He was truly despicable.

Mara didn’t even know how she managed to get out of the house. Suddenly, her phone buzzed. She stared at the unfamiliar number flashing on the screen, her mind still reeling from what she had just overheard.

Then, she remembered the number. Her heart raced with a mix of fear and suspicion. She consciously shuddered and looked around before answering the phone.

“Why are you calling? Have you been…?”

“Yes, honey! Finally. After so many years. We haven’t seen each other for a long time. Did you miss me?”

Mara’s breath caught in her throat. But she immediately came to her senses. “Watch your words. If someone hears you, all our plans for many years will go down the drain.” There was a hint of irritation in her voice.

The person on the other end of the line sneered. “I suffered in prison for many years while you two were free, living a good life outside. You two are enjoying the status of Mrs. Riggs and the young lady of the Riggs family. Now, I have finally been released… Don’t you care about me anymore?”

Mara’s voice softened. “Who says I don’t care about you? I’ve always been thinking about you.”

“Okay, come here quickly then. I’m at Wincoll Hotel.” The person on the other end of the line said, then hung up.

At that moment, Mara was overwhelmed by frustration and had nowhere else to go. So, she hailed a taxi to Wincoll Hotel.

As soon as she entered the hotel room, she felt a chill run down her spine as the man’s gaze roamed over her with undisguised interest. “You haven’t changed a bit after all these years. It seems money can really do wonders,” he remarked.

“Stop talking nonsense. I’m already on the verge of exploding from anger,” Mara snapped, pushing his hand away and glaring at him. She obviously looked displeased.

The man raised an eyebrow, amused by her reaction. He laughed, wrapped his arm around her waist, and led her further into the room. “What? Someone is still capable of upsetting you, Mrs. Riggs?”

“Who else do you think? Of course, it’s Esteban. He wants to give all the shares to Susan,” Mara said, her voice trembling with frustration. “Didn’t I tell you before that men are heartless creatures? Don’t be so mad. I’ve been locked up for so long, and all I can think of is you.”

His brazen gaze roamed over her body again before he dragged her onto the bed unceremoniously. With a ripping sound, he tore off her clothes.

Mara was stunned for a moment. She only came to her senses when the cold air hit her exposed skin. She wanted to resist, fearing they would be discovered, but as his hands moved, she gradually relaxed. Despite living in the Riggs family’s house for many years, she and Esteban had never been intimate. Naturally, her desire overwhelmed her reason.

The weight of years apart fueled their passion, and the intensity of their reunion consumed them, each moment escalating with raw energy and urgency. They spent the intense night together, their bodies intertwined.

The next day, Mara was rejuvenated. Her frustrations from the previous night had dissipated a lot. She lay in the man’s arms, gently stroking his chest.

The man looked down at her and asked, grinning cheekily, “Who’s better, Esteban or me?”

“Does that even need to be asked? Of course, it’s you,” Mara replied, giving him a coquettish look.

He burst into laughter and said teasingly, “Ha-ha! It looks like that man can’t satisfy you. Buy me a house, and you can come to me whenever you need me.”
