I am broken from my train of thoughts when the 3 wolves shift back and start discussing among themselves. Of course they have noticed her scent leads up the tree. Once they are discussing which of them is going to climb up there, I stand up behind the tree I am at, out of sight, on high alert and ready to pounce when needed. One of the men starts trying to climb up the tree to no avail as he keeps landing on his *ss, clearly unable to climb the thing. Instead of the man trying again, one of the others now attempts to climb. This one manages to actually get towards the first branches. My heart is pounding in my chest as I am anxiously awaiting what is going to happen. After what seemed like decades having passed, the man drops down, alone. I release the breath I was holding. I hear the men discussing how she isn’t up in the tree and I see them heading off into the direction that lead to the tree. Where I am sure she isn’t headed, because that is the direction I also came from.

I wonder where she went though, as her scent definitely stops by the tree. Could she have jumped from tree to tree? The branches don’t seem stable nor close enough to do so, so I highly doubt that. But then how come her scent ends there? I also doubt she had some form of masking spray, she seemed very inexperienced with being out here all alone. I hope I can still find her somehow, before she lands in trouble again. With no way of knowing which direction she took, I guess I will continue in a straight line from where I came from and hope for the best.

Lola POV

Wow. If I thought I wasn’t a morning person waking up in my normal bed, having slept in a sitting position in a tree, knocked that over threefold. My whole body is stiff everywhere, and I am wet and cold as it had rained during the night. But I guess I need to count my blessings and be happy I am safe and sound up here. My other nights will probably be spent similarly from now on. And then I guess in a few days’ time I won’t have to sleep up in the tree anymore, because I’ll be so tired and moody that anyone trying to even come near me will get their heads bitten off before they can blink. ‘I thought I was bad at mornings, lol’ Liberty snorts in my head. ‘Every wolf meets her match’ and I can hear her snort in amusement. Well I guess I’ll climb down now and get moving again. We have a lot of ground to cover. If only I could shift this would be done so much faster, but Liberty remains adamant on not shifting if we don’t absolutely have to. ‘Sorry Lola. But we are stronger than normal she wolves and anyone seeing us will go to great lengths to abduct us and mark us against our will. And when we do have to shift we will have the element of surprise, as they won’t expect us to be strong.’ I ponder on her words for a minute before replying ‘but we already have a target on our backs for being a female rogue. And what’s the point in being strong if we never get to use it?’ ‘trust me, we will. I would just like to postpone that for some time and enjoy the relative peace we have while it lasts.’ I snort, relative peace my ass. Easy for her to say, she didn’t have to sleep in a tree.

As I had worked my way down about halfway, I hear people approaching from a distance. They are laughing so loudly you could hear them from miles away. Stalling in my tracks to observe, I see 4 men in human form walking towards my tree whilst one of them is carrying something across the shoulder. As they come closer, their talk becomes more clear for me to hear, and I can hear them discussing one of the packs along my route. Although they are discussing a pack, they clearly aren’t from one – these are rogues. Their potent smell fills the air as I have to suppress a gag, these rogues are definitely pretty feral. As they get even closer, I can finally see what the one man is carrying, and f*ck me. It’s a female! And she seems to be passed out. She is clearly not a rogue, she must be from the pack they were discussing. Sh*t! I wasn’t intending on exposing myself to any rogues voluntarily, but how can I not try to help a defenseless she wolf? Goddess knows what they will do to her!. ‘Lib, we have to help her! I know you don’t want to shift, but I can’t take on 4 rogues on my own and the struggle will take too long and attract too much attention’ ‘I know and I agree. If there is one thing that infuriates me beyond reckoning, it is what these filthy animals are about to do to her. But Lola, as you know, they can’t make it out alive. Once they have passed our tree you jump down. Oh, before I forget, your shift will be much more painful this time as our first shift was somewhat forced by me to get us out of that situation’. Well, great.

I do as Liberty says and wait for them to have passed my tree, before I climb down to a reasonable enough height to jump down. As I land on the ground, all 4 of the men snap their heads in my direction at the sound “well well welllll, what do we have here?” man #1 states while licking his lips, disgusting prick. “Look at this little bonus just dropping in our lap! Two for the price of one today” man #2 adds while they all cackle like crazy chickens. They have only spoken two sentences and have already managed to boil my blood. “I am going to tell you once and once only, drop the girl and leave” I say in a baritone voice, which means Liberty has chimed in to overlay both our voices. After having cackled with laughter, man #1 finds his voice again “now why on earth would we possibly do that? We are going to have so much fun with the two of you, hmmmmmm” while running his disgusting tongue across his lips.

Lola POV

Not really wanting these men to see me naked, but I have to preserve the little clothes I have with me, I strip some of my clothes off and say “don’t say I didn’t warn you” before Liberty starts the shift. And f*ck sake was she right. I can feel all my bones breaking and rearranging and my insides moving all around. Are my bowels trying to choke my stomach or something? What felt like ages was probably only a few seconds before I am on all fours. All the four men seem to be rooted to the ground momentarily as I give an ear piercingly loud snarl. The man holding the female drops her to the ground with a thud, and before I know it, all 4 men have shifted into their wolves. All of them are a different shade of brown with various patterns on their fur. Which reminds me – I will have to ask Liberty later on what we look like, as I have never even had the chance to actually see her.
